The NFL has had record profitability and popularity under Goodell's tenure. Even WITH all the controversy. He's far from incompetent. His job as commissioner is first and foremost, is to increase the value of the NFL brand. Even with all the negative issue the NFL has faced, it benefits from the fact that rarely in these cases is there such a thing as bad publicity.
So...what is it that causes someone to be a Roger Goodell fanboy? I mean....really? Goodell? And someone who is (at least nominally) a Patriots fan? Is it some bizarre example of the Stockhom Syndrome in action?

I also noticed that he got booed mercilessly anytime he came anywhere near the stage. I wonder if the owners noticed that. Of course, maybe that's part of the design.

That's why he makes $44 mill a year. Heck, they can pay me $10 mil a year and let fans throw **** at me. . I'll do it!

Noticed that too....**** Goodell.

I may be reading too much into it but Goodell announced our pick as the 'New England Patriots select...'
Instead of referring to us as the world champs. I'm pretty sure last year (and every year) he said the World Champion Seattle Seahawks select...
Seems disrespectful to me.
I can't stomach The Dope (aka Goodell), but, yes, I think you're reading too much into it...just my take.

That's because he already knows once the wells report is released, we will be stripped of the banner due to an unauthorized sticky substance coating our footballs. The only way that could have happened was during the 90 seconds our attendant went to the rest room. While it was claimed that Kensil was in that restroom with a gun to the attendants head, - it could not be proven, hence we are doomed.

Poor Roger, he was so discombobulated by all the boos he got every time he stepped to the podium, like all those actors and actresses, he forgot to thank his spouse (or his world champions). Seriously, since I didn't notice it, I am not going to zing Goodell for it (there are plenty of other things to zing him for, though).

Any accusations regarding Goodell's incompetence are purely speculative and mostly sour grapes. Any person that is able to put themselves in a position to be commissioner of the NFL and achieve the earning power he has can never be considered incompetent.
Just a hint, Roger - you should tone down the "blow your own horn" stuff or it's too easy to figure out who you are.

Any defense of Goodell's competence is purely speculative and mostly insane rantings. People are often competent at one level and incompetent at the next level.

August 8th, 2006 his tenure started. Competency is determined by the people who employ you. Add to that, no commissioner has ever had to operate in the current 24/7 news-media environment like Goodell. Hence, no commissioners actions have ever been under such a high level of scrutiny. Guys like Rozelle and even Tagliabue could much easier control or sweep potential black eyes for the league under the rug. But hey, facts are dumb.

I heard that he unliked us on Facebook.

I'm not a fan of Goodell's. But I am a fan of reason when it comes to judging someone's capabilities. Questioning the guy's competence is stupid pettiness. I think he may have one of the most difficult jobs in business. Between dealing with some of the most passionate fans of any sport, the reach and power of today's media that hunt's for stories with staying power, the player's union and individually/collectively trying to keep 31 of the most arrogant, entitled and self important rich guys happy....it requires some measure of skill.

And yet, somehow, Rozelle and Tagliabue managed to do it without ending up with EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE (except you apparently) hating his guts.

BTW, the 24/7 news cycle started a long time before 2006. A Loooonnnng time before. Or did you miss the Clinton Lewinski years, the OJ Trial, the (2) Gulf Wars, etc.

Competency is determined by those discussing the person's competency.

Tagliabue did. He managed it much better.

Hence, no commissioners actions have ever been under such a high level of scrutiny. Guys like Rozelle and even Tagliabue could much easier control or sweep potential black eyes for the league under the rug.

Guys like Rozelle and Tagliabue dealt with the issues differently, even in public. You seem to have decided to ignore that.

But hey, facts are dumb.

Well, other than Goodell's start date, you really didn't provide any.

What a horse's ass...

Goodell was then asked if he was prepared to apologize to the Patriots and owner Robert Kraft if the investigation reveals no wrongdoing.

"Well, no, because here’s the thing, and I’ve said this to Robert and I’ve said this publicly -- our job is to protect the integrity of the game," Goodell said on the program. "If there are questions about the potential for some type of violation, it’s our obligation to go find out whether it happened. There are 31 other teams that want to know that the rules were followed. I hope there is nothing from this. But we didn’t make any judgment about whether there was or wasn’t; we allowed Ted Wells to do that. That’s our job, and that’s what we’re going to do. I’m not going to apologize for doing our job."

His f-ing office is filled with big-mouthed, smear campaign artists that without fact, and based on hearsay and rumors, battered the Patriots' brand for weeks.

If the Pats are exonerated, he - for his own sake, needs to apologize to Pats.

These comments were incredibly revealing on how a delusional, arrogant, elitist idiot he is.

But the social media component did not exist to the degree it does now. Their weren't cameras on ever street corner, in every elevator. There's no equivalency.

I don't think that he should apologize for investigating. That's what the league should do if they get an accusation. Just as I think it was very wrong for people here to hate on Kravitz for reporting that the Pats was accused of deflating footballs, he is a reporter, so of course he should report stuff like that. But Goodell should apologize for the league leaking more information about this investigation than a 20 year old with a social media obsession does about their daily life.

Yes- That is what he should apologize for.

If Goodell just did his job, he would eventually be forgotten once he retires. He wants to be remembered just like past evil dictators such as Hitler and Saddam.

Is #RogerGoodell dumb or just playing dumb? He knows Kraft apology isn't 4 investigating. It's his office leaking like a diaper-less infant
