It would have made for a nice attacking interior line. I can get very comfortable with Malcom Brown - as Hatcheck said, at least it wasn't Eddie Goldman.

Please tell me that's not a new nickname.

That may actually be The Line of the Year!!

...yeah, I used to hang around some pretty tough joints in my day...why I remember this one place, The Swank Dive, man, the place was such a dive the hatcheck girl's name was Rocco!...

Everybody panning the JEST for picking "best on board" by their lights, rather than drafting for need...

... which is one thing that we arguably did this year (the need part) :)

You can always say someone was "best on board" when it looks redundant and head-scratchy, like the JEST pick, from the outside.

You can say "yeah fills a need, also best on board," for the Pats pick this year... obviously between two otherwise exciting players, one of whom fills an immediate need... etc. But the Pats pick is more easily attributed to filling an immediate need.

All that to say... we're bashing the JEST for taking what they are framing as a best-on-board approach... usually our approach. Yes, I'm excited to have Brown, and no, I'm not disappointed to not be scratching my head, as in so many Pats drafts.

But I couldn't see being too upset if I were a JEST fan either... although they'll boo anyone anywhere.

I 100% agree that it was a ridiculous pick by the Colts, and I hope they have the ball shoved down their throat all season now. Colts game threads would be epic.

Not to mention another line on their proudly displayed "defeated by world champions" banner :)

Ok, I'm gong to drag my insomniac ass off to bed, in the hopes of catching a few winks before I have to get up. While I would have loved to see Brady working with Dorsett, it should be very interesting to see what the Colts do with all those WRs, (T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson, Donte Moncrief, Duron Carter, Phillip Dorsett, Vincent Brown) now, as someone is almost certainly going to spring loose from that squad.

Having said that, I'll leave you all with Kravitz' piece about the Colts pick:

INDIANAPOLIS - For all we know, he may be Reggie Wayne Redux. Phillip Dorsett may be another spectacular wide receiver who has a wonderful, productive career with the Indianapolis Colts. This may be 2001 all over again, when the Colts left their fans shocked and dismayed when they took Wayne out of Dorsett's school, the University of Miami, when they already had Marvin Harrison on the roster and desperately needed defense.

Maybe. Possibly. But…

I hate it. Hate it with a fiery hot passion. The board spoke to the Colts' brain trust. Well, somebody needs to tell the board to shut the heck up.

For a team that claims to be "all in," for a team that desperately wants to close the gap on the New England Patriots, for a team that has T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson, Donte Moncrief and Duron Carter, well, this is beyond shocking and utterly perplexing. How, exactly, does this make them more competitive with the Patriots? How does this bolster their running game, which did nothing against the Patriots? How does this help stop the run, which was awful in two games against the Patriots? How does this help them slow down elite passing attacks, guys like Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger and others, who had their way with the Colts last year?

"We have eight more picks," general manager Ryan Grigson said.

Seriously, is that a promise or a threat

Enjoy the read!

LOL... as I always say, the draft is a total crap-shoot... you only know what you had after the season and all that... but "Is that a promise or a threat?" is a great line

Didn't say I hate the pick that would make me a joker.

Chip. He might never amount to much. But I'll give him this : he's barrels of fun. Thank goodness for Chip in the offseason !

I can't think of an NFL HC without a QB who has had a better record in his first two years.

Jim harbaugh? Solely relied on a creative run game.

But when asked if he had a message for Patriots fans, Brown revealed that his goals may be a bit higher than simply being Wilfork’s replacement. “You’re about to get the best player you’ve ever drafted,” he said. “Just be ready for when I touch the field.”

Not known if he was carrying a pizza when he said that.

Seriously, i can't believe people not thinking this pick fills a need. you don't need dominant linemen? Losing Wilfork doesn't create a hole that needs to be addressed somehow?

Do people think, if they wish real hard, a cornerback who shouldn't be in the 1st round [because a cornerback who was picked shouldn't have been] is going to turn into Darrel Revis?

One of Belichick's best qualities as a drafter is, he doesn't invent players. He mostly doesn't project a player to be what he wants him to be, because there is a need. He was ready to trade when a player who fit exactly what he likes and what he needs was there, so he pulled the trigger. We were lacking in talent on DL. we had depth and potential and a gaping hole left by Wilfork. We got a guy who is huge [not Easley] but versatile and can do everything from stuff the run to rush the passer [6.5 sacks] plus he s what BB values, a 300+ pounder with athleticism.

Marcus Peters maybe a hall of famer, but let's face it a guy that got kicked off his team for continuously being a jerk is a bit of a risk at 18. Can you say "big bang clock?" If our "need" is not at cornerback, then where could we have better improved our team than by drafting a big, versatile producer at DT?

That quote sounds like what Brady said to Kraft after he was drafted. If Brown becomes half the player Brady is, it will be another Steal of the Draft for BB......

Most mind-numbing move: Jets drafting Williams despite already boasting outstanding D-linemen, Colts drafting Dorsett to be their 5th WR, or Elway sending 2 fifths and one of his best O-linemen for a falling DE?

It was a great and lucky pick for the Jets.

Mo Wilkerson wants a fortune - they'll go through the same thing with Richardson next year. They can't afford to pay them both. Williams is probably the safest pick in the draft to be an impact player. He shouldn't have been around at 6.

On a side note: With the draft held in Chicago, it was great to not hear boos when the Pats pick was announced (and not have the place go nuts when the Jets pick came up)!

Where are all the people that kill Kiper now? I love this pick. It takes care of a need and solidifies the DT position with a guy that can stuff the run and push upfield against the pass. I would love for our next pick to be Jaquiski Tartt.

"Blue" trait ?? LOL

I guess I can't fault Grigson for staying true to his board. Apparently the problem is he needs a lot of f'ing help putting a board together. I mentioned it before, but I guarantee he drafts somebody like a Hammer Thrower from the Norwegian Olympic team or a wrestler from Uzbekistan. This buffoon actually thinks he's smarter than the rest.

The good news is that he can keep staying true to his board -- there's plenty of WR talent still remaining! :)

BPA is such hogwash. You want the player who you expect to make the best impact on your team over the next 3-4 years. Dorsett's incremental value to the Colts is very low indeed.
