Jets fans 4th best? That is suspicious.

That there was a 50 word minimum on the posts that were examined explains it, though. That's about 20 words more than the average Jets fan knows.

I'd imagine that most of the posts made on a team's official website will be from trolls. Beyond that, a lot of intentional misspellings while mocking another fan base or poster would count. Most rants would be over 50 words while the average post is not going to be. I doubt their crappy grammar bot understands names, acronyms and inside jokes either. Pretty stupid article about an attention whoring company using the NFL to market their **** product.

edit: I just went through a bunch of news articles on patriots.com to find example of our terrible grammar. Nobody actually comments. Seriously. I didn't find one comment. What a joke..

I just saw a table with the Patriots on the top and the jests in the bottom, is that the regular season standings? Is it September already?

Well, Ivan and Jack Bauer clearly have a very poor grasp of the English language. So I am inclined to believe that they bring down the average for all of us.

This forum is pretty intelligent (in general + football smart) from what I've noticed. Especially compared to some other team forums I've browsed.

They must be gathering info from Twitter or Facebook posts; which is dumb & deceiving anyway.

I blame ourz bad Interet grammars on too many kitten-cat memes.

Any program implying Detroit is most intelligent out of 32 cities is clearly broken.

It's hard to misuse and misspell words like suck, loser, Rex, pick, fumble, suck, loser, penalty, turnover, butt fumble, Woody, tampering, suck, loser, Mangini, traitor, suck, loser, snitch, rat, hate, and Patriots.

That is just embarrassing. Especially in the age of autocorrect.
Even being best on that list isn't very good.
If this is what we are spending our time doing we should take some pride.

*noted that the source is patriots.com site.

They went to the official website forums of NFL teams.

Only kumpleet idjits go to Patriots.com for anything other than the videos and podcasts.

Click on the file in the original post: the stat is based on "150 comments" from each Board. I checked a moment ago and there are 3,115,469 (presumably now at least 3,115,470 messages with this post) on the Patsfans site.

So, let's see. A completely random, unscientifically derived sample of 150 from a universe of 3.1 million. That's 0.00483% (less than five one-thousandths of one percent). Yeah, that's reliable.

The WSJ is a NEW YORK paper.

I'm willing to bet any Patriots fan contacted by Jets/Giants fans is fairly represented and selection for the less erudite replies was not a factor at all. /sarcasm

Limiting the study to one source per team invalidates any findings. So too does the arbitrary removal of any responses that contain less than fifty words.

While their software may be capable of automating the tasks of finding grammar and spelling errors, the company fails in finding a valid cross section of each team's fan base. Add that to a too-small sample size and the result is a margin for error that renders any and all results meaningless.

Or, to put it another, less polite, more direct way:

At least we know the browns are legit. They just need to consult their pill bottles to properly spell "depression".

I agree. I simply watched "Hardcore Pawn"once or twice and came away with....."maybe it will be better if the terrorists win.....right"?

I didn't even realize you COULD comment on something on the Patriots.com site or that there was some sort of interactive element. Maybe the company should have done at least a little research and tried to unearth whether there are any quite popular forums fans of the teams used... Further, 150 is an incredibly small sample size. "Hur hurr, 150 people who went on a rant who like the Pats can't spell good, so they're all DUM! Lol!!!" I have a feeling there are more than 150 people posting about their respective teams on the Internet.

As an aside, had they run the same software on Jets Insider, we all know the Rats would've been wayyy below Washington. Then again, they may have actually not qualified considering I don't think I've ever seen a Rat fan successfully string 50 words together.

I blame Dikembe. :D
