Breaking: NYJ fined $100,000 for Revis tampering

The fact they couldn't follow the precedent set by the Lance Briggs situation is pathetic

This was way worse in multiple ways. Yet a petty $100k fine (by NFL team standards) is an absolute joke
That is the same amount they fined Marshaun Lynch for avoiding the media.. We all know which was worse....

to be very honest i thought they went overboard with 100K .
Didnt even think they would fine them anything. Wonder how much overboard goodell will go with the deflategate report if wells even hints anything.

Well Good Ole' Rog just set a precedent that NFL owners can talk about players that are under contract to other teams during press conferences and how they would like to sign them and only expect a $100k fiine.

I never expected the Jets to get significant fine, but this is far, far less than I expected. I expected at least a mid to late round pick swap. I never expected much more unless they found hard evidence of contact between the Jets and Revis.

I never thought Johnson's comments were that big of a deal. I did think that if they could prove that they gave Manish Mehta the contract numbers or any contact between the Jets and Revis when they went to Jets' facility, then there would have been a big punishment.

l disagree about Johnson's comments. The last position from the Jets when Revis was previously a free agent was that they had no interest and had moved on from him. Johnson's comments changed the negotiations with the Pats as Revis knew he could wait for a better deal and now had someone to leverage against the Pats. My guess is without Johnson's comment, Revis would still be a Pat.

What a f'n joke. A textbook case of tampering (just read the NFL rule book) garners a $100K fine. They just set one very bad precedent... I guess the rules don't apply to a team when the commish used to work for you......

If I'm Mr. Kraft, I am beyond pi**ed and if the other shoe turns out to be ridiculous discipline against the Pats for deflategate, I hope he goes medieval on Goodell...
A repeat offender at that!:mad:

So the 9ers lose a 5th and swap 3rds for calling Rosenhaus behind closed doors, but Woody blatantly and publicly lobbies for a soon to be FA Revis, and he only gets $100,000 fine? and people think Pats fans are insecure with their persecution complex...unreal.

One of the other details of that situation was that the Bears and 49ers had discussed a trade for Briggs. At least under that scenario, there a reason, even if it was against the tampering rules, for the 49ers to reach out to Briggs and his agent about a new contract. And Briggs ended up remaining in Chicago.

The Jets owner tampered with Revis while he was still playing for the Patriots and then ended up signing him. How does that not merit at least a comparable penalty?

This league is so pathetically predictable. Nothing tells a billionaire owner that it's wrong to publicly tamper with another player like a $100,000 slap on the wrist. The league didn't even follow precedent either. Goodell is such a ******* joke.

In other words: "I would love to have Moo Wilkerson here" - Every GM with a 100k to spare and in need of a 3-4 DE.

outrageous - my hate for the Jets just doubled - wait - you cant double infinity

I call BS. Revis and his agent would have known the Jets interest no matter what. Revis' agent was talking contracts with multiple teams at the Combines. I know this because it happens every year with every player facing free agency.

I guarantee you that Revis was not going to sign to with the Pats without knowing who was interested and what they were going to offer. That comment by Johnson did nothing other than show what an idiot Johnson is. The Jets and other teams were talking to Revis behind the scenes. It happens all the time.

A slap on the wrist, but frankly, more than I was expecting. Now for the inconclusive Deflategate bogusness to come out any moment...

WOW, are you kidding me?

Is this confirmed or just a rumor by that scumbag Jets beat writer?

You are right - but Goodell himself has said it's not about the tangible effects of a violation rule, its about violating the rules themselves. Which the Jets clearly did.

This guy had the Revis contract about a week before free agency (not that that is suspicious or anything), so I'd bank on them being right.

Gunther Cunningham 4 years ago said how he hoped the Chiefs kept cutting players because he knew some of them and would want some and the Lions lost a 7th and swapped 5th round picks with the Chiefs.

Didn't name players just said if the Chiefs cut players he would want some because he had coached some between '04 and '08.
