Top ten prospect Shane Ray arrested and cited for possession of marijuana

The trick is that Ray stands 6'2.5" 245 lbs. after skipping the Senior Bowl in order to focus on bulking up. How are you going to use him in this defense to get full value from the pick?

Not that I'm comparing the two as players but Ray is the same size as Von Miller. I'm sure BB would find a way to fit him onto the defense. I don't know why we couldn't play Ray as a roving, blitzing linebacker.

Anything that takes pressure of our secondary..

If Shane Ray slides then....

I would definitely take him. The NFL is going to have to alter their rules on pot smoking, especially when players can get medical marijuana cards that make it legal for them to smoke and possess as a means of alternate medical care. Ray showed poor judgment by smoking in the run up to the draft but he's pretty clean as character concerns go and you take guys with to fifteen talent if pot is the issue.*

*if they are murderous psychopaths who smoke then you pass on them. Just saying.............

I think a wise use of Ernie Adams time in the early spring would be making sure the top fifteen prospects in the draft have unfettered access to the pineapple kush. I have plenty if he needs it and would happily take one for the team if it gets them Lael Collins or Leonard Williams.

Give me a call Ernie, I'll hook you up.

Just like Easley last year, considering where the Pats pick in the draft, you have to take a risk every once in a while on a guy that's considered a blue chip player. Easley, if healthy would have been a top 10 pick, and Ray is a monster.

I would more than welcome Shane Ray on this defense. I just don't see him falling that far. The kid is too good.

he had 35 grams of it lmao.. Like not even just a couple for self use. Like who drives with that amount WEEK before the draft.

I'd still take him at 32 though lol.

Maybe BB told him to do that so he will fall to us hehe.

Tempting, but ever since Meriweather, Bill has only snagged guys in the first with something to the affect of, "you'd want your daughter to date him" on his profile. I don't see that changing this Thursday.

Apparently the Patriots met with Ray, broke his toe, and planted marijuana in his car in hopes that would be enough to make him fall to them at #32. They're currently being investigated for this. Ted Wells has a report on it coming soon.

Easley is a horrific bust though so far. Not a good look. Negative on tiny edge rushers who get washed out in the run game.

I don't think Ray is going to be that good, the pot aside. I don't think he has the size to play on the line in the NFL.

I was hoping that the Jets would take him.

Not being able to stay away from pot a week before the draft does not augur well for his priorities.

You can coach players up and hide deficiencies in skill or athletic ability but you can't coach up stupid.

My conversion is rusty but isn't that a little over an ounce???

My "red flag" player power rankings for pick 32:

1. Marcus Peters
2. Dorial Green-Beckham
3. Shane Ray
4. Randy Gregory

I would probably only draft #1 and maybe #2 before trading down. Not sure Ray/Gregory are worthy of 1st round picks with their questions. Atleast Peters/Beckham have top 10-15 pick type talent.

The trick is that Ray was already sliding before this. He looked like lightning on the field, but the current "concerns" tally:

- Lingering foot injury.
- Undersized. 6' 2.5", and only managed to get up to 245 lbs. by skipping the Senior Bowl to focus full time on bulking up.
- Supposed freak athlete didn't really test like one. His explosion and agility numbers compare to Dont'a Hightower, not Von Miller.
- Sometimes plays over-aggressive/out of control, as in ejection from SEC championship game.
- This latest act of profound stupidity.
