Goodell: ‘Understanding’ is Wells has 'finished interview portion'’ of Deflategate report

Saw this in the headline section and wanted to open up a thread for comments

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told PBS’ Charlie Rose on Monday that he anticipates the Deflategate investigation will be over “soon,” and added that it’s his understanding that investigator Ted Wells has “finished the interview portion” of his probe.

Tuesday marks the 100th day since the AFC title game, when the report of the underinflated footballs first surfaced. For the record, Wells’ previous work for the NFL — his investigation into the Dolphins’ bullying scandal — took 100 days.

Well this is the first time he's even alluded to the investigation not being indefinitely open-ended. Could this be timing for the Wells report to be released Wednesday right before the draft? But then again what the hell does "interview portion" mean? Does this just mean that now the investigation is entering a new portion and the end still isn't in sight? If they've been interviewing for 100 days they have better been investigating the league too. Apparently they've been going back a decade interviewing ex backup QBs so it would be a joke if they don't go after the obvious corruption in the league at play here.

I assume it means what it says -- Wells is now done with talking to people.

So now they have to analyze non-interview data (video, cell phone messages, etc.) and actually write up the report. I assume and hope that the analysis of the non-interview data has been running in parallel (it would be the logical thing to do, since that data will inform you as to who you want to interview and vice versa).
So my guess is that most of that is done as well and what's left is primarily writing up the final report.

Great job, Ted Wells. It's only taken you almost 4 months to interview the appropriate parties.

It will be released as the Patriots are sending their first round pick to the podium. Goodell will be standing there with a smile and simply rip the card up and walk off...

If that was meant as a joke, you need better writers.

The words "intergrity" and NFL shall never be uttered in the same sentence evermore..

How many folks were interviewed in this investigation???

I thought it would be released the week after the Owners' meetings, but didn't realize there was a "100 day minimum" on Wells' billing days...oops, I meant to say, "thoroughness."

There's no way the report will come out this week, because it would distract from the Draft story line. My amateur guess would be that if Wells needed 100 days to talk to everybody and, presumably, gather all the electronic and other "forensic" evidence he felt he needed, he'll need another couple of weeks to prepare his report, assuming that they have been assessing the interviews on an ongoing basis and running parallel tracks evaluating that evidence.

The League Spring Meetings begin on May 18 in San Francisco. I'd bet a buck or two that the report will be released sometime in the week of May 11.

Cynicism aside, I think the longer this has dragged on, the better it has been for the Patriots. The fact that rumors suggest he's interviewed QB's going back several years suggests that he wants to know how the preparation of game day balls "really" worked for all teams. The fact that other rumors suggest that he's focused on the League and the pejorative leaks about the Patriots suggests that he's looked seriously into whatever conspiracy may have existed among the Ravens, Colts and NFL staff. The fact that pundits from Aikman to Florio have shut the **** up suggests that the report is going to embarrass a lot of people.

Roger has a strange definition of the word "soon."

When it is all said and done I would love to know the cost of this charade, I mean investigation...my guess is going to be $3,000,000-5,000,000 range....

The cavemen from 10,000 years ago saw glaciers retreat faster.

This is all a smokescreen. The report is done. All they are trying to do is orchestrate how it is massaged and messaged to the public and make sure they dial up the appropriate level of spin doctoring they need so it comes off credible, comprehensive and with the least amount of damage to the league's so-called integrity and credibility.

Other than the ball boy who was canned for skimming game balls, I'm sure 1-2 more people are going to get sent to the Island of Misfit NFL lackeys. Maybe it's a low-level Pats , Colts, Ravens or league staffer? They'll be the fall guys. I doubt Kensil gets hit. Hes a good 'ole boy.

I just looked up the date they released their findings in the Matt Walsh fiasco and it was May 13th. Back in '08 I was astonished that they took so long to let the Pats twist in the wind only to say "never mind."
If it took that long to interview just one guy I knew from the start of this mess not to expect anything sooner. There must be some kind of reason in their mind to wait until this point of the off season, what it is I don't know. Personally I think it's dumb not to expedite these things but what do I know?

It's better than that. Florio has actually been banging the drum the past 2 weeks that the investigation looks to be turning away from the Pats and onto the league.

No one who has been paying attention should be surprised by what will come out in that Wells report. While the rest of the nation will be in shock, those paying attention this whole time won't be.

When you're getting paid the king's ransom that he's making to write this report, why wouldn't you take your time?
