The simple story behind the entire "deflategate" controversy

First.

Mods are more than capable of moderating their Front Page.

Second.

You do realize you don't have to tattoo every Thread title that comes up on the Front Page on your ass, right? Save yourself some pain. Don't worry about these things, especially during the off season.

Third.

And perhaps the most important. @Palm Beach Pats Fan took his findings, worded it such a way that even a golden retriever could understand the math, emailed Peter King, got a phone call back, talked to him and in the end, managed to be the first person in the history of DeflateGate to actually break through some of the utter ignorance surrounding the reporting of this issue. In his MMQB, Peter King quotes Palm Beach Pats Fan at great length and acknowledges the possibility that maybe the Patriots arent cheaters. It was the first time sign of hope Patriot fans had that maybe logic and reason could see us through.

So what did you do during all this?

Read a few books,

Worked,

Watched the Pats win the superbowl,

Lived my life without letting some asshat like peter king, who spent more time talking about how great of a handshake adrian peterson had, then he does actually reporting on things and just vomits up nonsense like his favorite beer to drink in the quiet section of the train. Peter King is an ambulance chaser, He understands that the money shot for the pats deflating balls has past and now he'll be moving onto the next popular thing "The league screwed up!" Anytime trying to convince peter king of something, is time better spent on something else, the dude is the epitome of fence jumper.

Glad to hear that you are too cool for school.

Thread Ignore, move on.

1 second of your life wasted instead of 180.

I absolutely agree that at the height of Deflategate, the Front Page was unreadable by anyone that felt themselves above the conversation. Thats been long fixed. The Mods will either move this thread to the Deflategate forum or they wont.

Personally, I choose to respect their decision either way. Reading a Thread title and making a decision whether to click or not click has never been an onus to me.

I don't want to be obtuse, but I don't get why people complain (and hand out dislikes) because they don't think someone should've created a thread about something. If you don't like it, don't read it... Are you aware we have a thread ignore feature?

You just hit on a social media pet peeve of mine.

Typically, when it comes to this thing, I think there is a combination of laziness, lack of understanding/awareness, and execution of proper posting etiquette.

I'll climb on the soap-box for a second and play, "The World According to Robertweathers"

Like= responding poster approves of the post
Agree=responding poster agrees with the post
Dislike=responding poster does not approve of the post
Disagree= responding poster does not agree with the post

For Palm Beach's post, people should hit "disagree" or respond. It is nonsensical to select, "dislike".

Now if you called my kids ugly, I could either say "dislike" or "disagree".

If you say, "I'm a Peyton Manning fan" then "dislike" would be appropriate and "disagree" is nonsensical.

I wrote this last night, for my own benefit, mostly. I even agree with you, chase, that my argument does cobble together tons of ideas that have already been expressed elsewhere, such that I wondered if it was worth posting.

It discards some other common ideas, though. It doesn’t require that the Colts were secretly deflating the intercepted football on the sidelines. I do not think that they would go THAT far, and more importantly, it is UNNECESSARY to even think that they went that far. It doesn't require any special Goodell-directed effort to "get us". It requires, mostly, common sense.

And I might be badly wrong!

As far as the math, I have filled at 72 degrees at 12.5 leaves 9.83 PSI at 20 degrees.

Thanks- I should have calculated that, rather than pulling a number out of the air!

This should honestly be pinned somehow. 100% agreed.

It's a solid post. My only disagreement with it is the Kensil hates BB angle. While Kensil was with the NYJ in 2000, do we really think that he was scorned by BB for dissing the NYJ? Also keep in mind that Kensil was canned by Mangini in 06- not 07 as you say. I just don't see tangible proof for the vendetta angle - yet.

I think Kensil's angle is more about power run amok, completely over-inflating his actual authority and potentially taking way too much latitude in enforcing league policy. Could be stupidity too but that has yet to be proven.;)

I remembered Currans white whale quote about Kensil being that had a bit of an Ahab-like desire to catch the Patriots, but not sure now in re-reading it what it means in terms of any hate for BB.
http://bostinno.streetwise.co/2015/...e-lines-report-involves-former-jets-employee/

"I do know that Kensil has been agitating about footballs for months with the Patriots" Curran told WEEI's Dennis & Callahan on Wednesday morning. "He has been asking around about possible football manipulation for months, leading into this. So, it's kind of his white whale." Curran did add context that he's always heard Kensil to be "a good man," for what it's worth.

I may be mistaken but the only way to ignore a thread is to open the thread

Found the quote.

I remember when TEC said that and what I struggle with is...if it wasn't Grigson who initially reached out to Kensil before the AFCCG, then when and exactly what event transpired to put deflated footballs on Kensil's radar prior to the playoffs? Was it the Pats/Indy game in Nov? Jets games during the year? Deflated footballs in general and the scope of his 1/2-assed inquiry beyond being just limited to the Pats?

I think BB has been feeding some good storylines to Curren but I'm skeptical that he has all the facts.

For Chrissakes, stop eating cheese and eat a banana.

You rehashed the same exact thing every thread here has rehashed.

What else does every thread rehash?

>that the Colts deflated the intercepted football. That isn't even necessary.
>that the Colts "set a trap". They didn't. They THOUGHT they were clued into wrongdoing. Kensil was setting the trap, out of ego, incompetence, or hate, it's hard to tell.
>That Irsay, Paganio, or Grigson are liars and are won't cooperate. That isn't necessary.
> That Irsay, Paganio, or Grigson planted evidence to "frame" the Patriots. They didn't. That isn't necessary.
>That the Colts were wrong to tell an NFL executive about their suspicions.

Those are the accusations that Patriots haters call diversion tactics and reckless speculation, with some merit!

The Colts "misdeeds" here simply involved trusting Kensil to run a game day "investigation" rather than to lodge complaints with the league through normal channels, thereby flagging Goodell, and thereby involving the referees, rather than letting Kensil run a Keystone Cops show all by himself.

Maybe we will find that the NFL designated Kensil to take on this role, after the Colts contacted them. That doesn't make much sense to me, though. If that proves to be true, then I think the Colts get off Scot-free, and rightfully so.

There is nothing I like better than a well written long post and Palm Beach, you wrote a gem. As this thing finally (we hope) comes to an end over the next 10 days, you put together a great summary that recreated the facts and circumstance a lot more fairly than I'd be able to.

Consequences THAT is what I will be looking for when this long national nightmare comes to an end. Unfortunately I know that there is no "unfrying the egg". The haters will simply ignore the facts like they have been doing for the last 8 years in cameraplacementgate. There is no need to even talk about them.

The things that anger me are some of the maliciousness that came from ESPN. I feel strongly that it is OUR responsibility to make sure that EVERY media outlet that slandered our team be held accountable. That NONE be let to slide with just a small story that clears the Pats. I want to EVERY SINGLE ONE of those mutts that .spoke against us be made to apologize AND explain their original premise, and that includes the regular news medium that piled on as well....including a comment from our current elected President.

I demand that ESPN commission a 30 for 30 (about the only things they do well now) that will take an indepth look at how deflategate started, including the Ravens ignorance of physics and general frustration, that got the ball rolling.. PLUS documenting how ESPN and their network were used by shadowy league figures to leak bogus information that would be damaging to the Patriots organization.

The fact is that the Patirots and their brand has be damaged long term from deflategate. The league and their media whores owe the Patriots NOTHING less than the same amount of effort in clearing their names as they did in attempting to tearing it down.

Now that might be a bit unrealistic expectation, but nothing even close to it certainly isn't going to happen if we don't DEMAND it. They have to be called out and be forced to explain how they got it so wrong. That goes from Peter King, to Mortenson, and the dozen others who called for the Pats head over NOTHING. And if this thing comes down much as Palm Beach expects and we DON'T get the satisfaction we'd like, we ONLY have ourselves to blame

Great stuff. Sort of hilarious that the longest post in the history of this site invokes Ockham's razor as one of its regulative ideals :D

Love this post Ken +1000

or,

My Occam’s razor explanation for deflategate.

...

(edit: I cleaned up a few things)

Very well done!
Just imagine, if you were Wells you could charge something in the neighborhood of seven figures for that report!

Good write up, just two things and they are only my opinion. I don't think the Ravens are involved to be the honest. And also I'm not 100% convinced Ernie Adams is even a real person. I think he's just an idea or maybe like a mindset that BB and co. try to follow.

I'm voting for Mike Patricia and/or Cam Fleming bringing it up rather than Adams. :)

Patricia before Fleming. First, it's closer to being his job. Second, he has a lot more experience with cold-weather footballs than Fleming does.
