Putting together my Patriots Big Board: Guards and Centers

Ahhhh, the final chapter is here. Next up will be my final big board in vertical form. I need to come up with something good after seeing Manx's amazing board.

I'm sure you're up to the challenge.

That was an excellent break down by the way. It's such a shame about Shaq Mason's diminutive size because I love him as a blocker. I said before that he reminds me of Jonathan Cooper and I absolutely loved him as a prospect.

Why would being a better run-blocker than pass-blocker limit someone to playing just LG?
Isn't it the other way around?

Also, what do you think of Jamil Douglas as a LG for the NEP, and at what point does value meet need?

Surprised you left Josue Matias off the list. Definitely see him as a a 5th round sleeper who has sound technique.

Stone and Missile,
On Douglas, he has some athletic traits that are intriguing, but he is guy who lacks functional power. He is really raw from a technique standpoint and has some off field issues. I gave him a 6th/7th round grade, but I think he goes before that because of his athleticism. I had a few guys grade out the same with similar attributes and he didn't make the list because of the off field issues.
As for Matias. I will be honest, I didn't like his tape at all. I can't tell you how many times I wrote "off balance" with him. He seems to allow defenders to dictate what he is doing rather than the other way around. I think the talent around him covered up a lot of his issues.
Of course this all means the Patriots will draft him in the 4th.

Great write up!

I think Jamil Douglas is a sleeper who just needs better coaching. His off the field issues are behind him from what I understand. He played lookout his freshman year (2010) and he and a teammate stole from another teammate. He got suspended and got his sh*t together and finished a criminal justice degree. His head coach has raved about him and his leadership abilities.

Here's a good story on him:

I think with a year in the system, he'd make an excellent LG. I think he'd fall around that cluster of picks at the bottom of round 3. If we were unable to get Erving or Fisher near our first pick, I'd jump all over Douglas at #101.

MWPF and Manx, how do you guys feel about Bobby Hart from FSU? Kind of under achieved as an RT in college, but scouts are projecting him as a guard in the pros? Maybe a late rd option?

I'm not a huge fan of these unathletic guys personally, I like my offensive linemen to be more like Shaq Mason. However, as the youngest prospect in the draft apparently, I can see the Patriots liking Hart's late round value. Considering the interest they've shown, I'd be a little surprised if the Pats didn't draft someone from that FSU OL.

I gave him a PFA grade. AS Manx said and I agree with, I tend to lean towards the more athletic guys. The Patriots mixed things up last year with the drafting of bigger guys and it makes scouting the position a little more difficult this year.
He is young and needs a lot of work technique wise. He needs time on a practice squad to learn and develop both physically and mentally. A late pick could be used on him to ensure he is here, but I personally would not.

Yeah I wouldn't waste my time with Hart, or any of the FSU OLmen except for Cam Erving of course.
