My Final Big Board

@Off The Grid has just posted his DeAndre Smelter scouting report and once again he's spot on. He too gives him a 2nd/3rd round grade.

You know what, if I was only allowed to like one prospect in this draft, based upon value Smelter would be the guy. Over Harrison and Jarrett, over Dexter Mcdonald and Tre McBride. Over Cassius Sendish. I LOVE SMELTER and I'm not afraid to shout it from the rooftops.

As ever, the work Grid puts in, in a frankly much too undervalued way is extraordinary and way more than anything I do.

I applaud you on your effort. I know first hand how taxing an exercise like this can be. I can't wait to dive into it more and compare/contrast with mine. I think it will create a great discussion the week before the draft. I hope to have mine done and out tonight or tomorrow morning. I really like that site and may check it out in the off season.
Again, great job on this and throughout the whole draft process. I have learned a lot from you and many others on here and I hope I have returned the favor at least a little bit.

Thanks. I look forward to yours. By the way, it took me twenty minutes to learn how to do that on that site - I just watched two youtube videos. I'll be happy to provide the links when you want them. And the iPhone app is great too.

Everybody knows that on this Site you are ~ without Peer ~ the most Relentlessly Revolutionary Explorer into The Far Pavilions of College FootBall in the Eternal Quest for Talent. And you have a startlingly discerning Eye for What Wins, in my Opinion. I have a lot more Respect for your Eye than that of the likes of Mel Kiper and others, and value your Opinion greatly. Great Board, by the way!! :D

I really appreciate that. My hair is better than Kiper too :)

This by the way:

the most Relentlessly Revolutionary Explorer into The Far Pavilions of College FootBall in the Eternal Quest for Talent.

Is a HOF Griddian sentence.

Really great mate and glad u put Agholor in there... But he should be higher! I'd love to know how to use that site, to make my list look prettier.

Thanks for that. I just don't know whether Agholor is a #1 WR and that's why he's only 17th on the board.

Watch these two videos.

That's all I needed to do what I did.

Great board manx, gonna use it to brush up on my prospect knowledge and watch some video ahead of the draft.

Yes, this is a great board. The only problem that I will have is that the list for late 3rd-4th is pretty thin given that we have 4 picks in that range.

BTW, agreed on Smelter... Feel like he has just about everything you'd want in a WR and you don't have to spend a 1st on him.

Great job, Manx. I wished I had the evaluative skills and patience to organize prospects in the scope of this layout.

Thanks. FWIW, my organisational skills suck which is why I found this website so useful.

Manxman, awesome work as usual! This is very straightforward, easy to follow, and the scouting behind it is exquisite as others have had. Thanks for spending the time and effort here!

If the Pats ever wind up calling out his name, I feel like we're all going to need to offer you congratulations as if you're a proud new dad.

Thank you. Fair point, mitigated by the fact that at least one of those picks will probably be traded and there will be guys that fall from my round 2-3 rank. I'm actually going to use my board and Lance Zierlein's 7 round mock to see who we'd actually draft using my board.

Appreciate your kind comments. Actually I'm terrified of one of my binkies getting drafted by the Pats because I'd be scared they bust. And there's double the risk with a WR. I'd be a nervous wreck all through camp and cut-down days. Hang on. That does make me like a father.

Following @mgteich fair comment that there was potentially a mid-round weakness to this board, I decided see how it fared when put up against Lance Zierlein's 7-round mock.

32

Zierlein - Landon Collins
Me - Byron Jones (Cam Erving, TJ Clemmings still on board)

64

Zierlein - Grady Jarrett
Me - Laken Tomlinson (Jarrett, Hardison)

96

Zierlein - Ali Marpet
Me - David Johnson (DeAndre Smelter, Chris Conley, Kenny Bell, Mike Davis)

97

Zierlein - Anthony Chickillo
Me - See 96

(Assume we've picked a WR and RB with those picks)

101

Zierlein - Tyler Lockett
Me - Mike Davis (Steven Nelson, Craig Mager,Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Leterrius Walton, David Parry) I left off some OL because no need to double dip.

131

Zierlein - Bobby McCain
Me - Same (although Mike Davis, Smelter, Kenny Bell, Nunez-Roches are all still on the board)

178

Zierlein - Austin Shepherd
Me - Ben Heeney (Shaq Mason, Nick Marshall, Marcus Rush)

219

Zierlein - Junior Sylvestre
Me - Marcus Rush or Ryan Delaire

278

Zierlein - Doniel Gambrell
Me - Cassius Sendish

With the last two picks I went with my preferences rather than stick strictly to the board because it gets a little confusing at that stage.

Make your own mind up, but I think it all works out pretty well. At least according to my board, it appears that 96,97, 101 is the place to get the offensive skill players. 101 could also be a good place to get the run stopper - Zierlein has Leterrius Walton, Henry Anderson and David Parry go in the 4th. Also, if we haven't got a guard early, the better 'second/third tier' prospects go in the 4th: Jamon Brown, Mitch Morse, Tre Jackson, Max Garcia, Mark Glowinski and Chaz Green.

Another Manx post which is fantastic.... zzzzzz Wake me up when this is not the case ;)

I must say in all seriousness it is you and a few posters like yourself which elevates this board above all the other fan boards on the web. This is better and more in depth than any premium content from sports site that would would have to pay for and we get it here for free. We are spoiled.

The thing I like about your board the most is the utter disrespect for the DT rankings. I have gone back and forth on this so much. In the end I have come to the conclusion I just don't know what to think. A lot of guys are ranked high and i like their games but I just don't know if I am inclined to spend a top 64 pick on any of them. I know you are inclined to do that for certain players so i am not saying that is your position I am simply explaining mine. Also i don't think it is the position of the Patriots either.

I really except them to take a CB with the first pick. If they do then i will pat myself on the back but I really believe the 2nd pick is wide open to a lot of options and might be something none of us see coming.

Great post. And I don't just mean your very kind comments about myself. Considering your excellent contributions this year, I'm humbled by those comments. Genuinely.

I've felt at odds with the consensus on the DTs all year and I don't know how things will play out in less than a week. I've always downgraded DTs that don't offer a pass rush or penetration and I stuck with that this year. When I was putting together this board, I didn't open any of the grading websites like CBS or ESPN (I did have NFL open because I like Zierlein's scouting reports) because I didn't want to be influenced when finally putting the board together. Judging by the mock above, I think that worked out pretty well.

Thank you again for those very generous comments, I appreciate them more than you can know.

Edit: Sorry, meant to say that I agree with your interpretation of the draft. If there's a CB there in the first, that's where I think they go. And I agree with you about the 2nd round. I can make a case for Abdullah/ either Johnson, a WR that has fallen or any of Tomlinson, Cann, Jarrett or Michael Bennett. Heck, even Tartt may be a possibility.

As an eager but not particularly knowledgeable (mostly) lurker, I printed this out and I'll have it beside me on Thursday night. It really helps me see where everyone fits. God, I hope we get some of the blue/green ones.

OK, that's way more pressure than I'm ready for :) but I really appreciate the confidence. I too hope for some green ones.
