Seriously...why is it taking so long?

It's been disgusting. As I mentioned after the AFCCG, it totally ruined the excitement of going back to the SB for me.

The only hope now is that the findings will exonerate the organization, which, coupled with another SB appearance (and victory) will lead people to realize that it's obviously good coaching and preparation.

Of course, anything less than an exoneration and it sets the organization back again--this time, much further than 2007 due to the perceived "repeat offender" situation.

That's exactly how I feel.

Can anyone beleive we're a week away from the draft and we've got nothing from the LO and Wells on this issue? The Tampering issue with the Jets has been buried as well.

The Tampering case should be a slam-dunk. They tampered. Period. Based on historical decisions from this administration it should be a forgone conclusion. I don't get it. The ball-inflation issue was an obvious set-up. Did the Patriots keep balls at the lowest allowed PSI to get better grip in the game? Of course. Tom sent the balls to the umps for approval.

They were approved. Now Kensil an Grigson, who have an obvious bias towards NE, want the rules changed on the fly to satisfy there personal grudges. The only thing I can figure is the overwhelming backlash the LO may experience with a decision that unfairly punishes the defending champions.

Should the league go againt previous decisions and dismiss the Jets tampering case and unfairly punish this franchise for an obvious matter of science they will get crucified, an deservedly so.

Here's my fanboy response. It's delayed because they found NO evidence the Pats tampered. Those of us who took HS physics knew that instantly when we first heard the allegations. AND the problem is...they did find evidence that the front office and a GM and owner conspired in a sting against the SB Champions. This would normally involve draft pick punishment against the Colts and SHOULD involve compensation pick to the wronged Patriots but this is anathema to Kommisar Goodell so he wants to defer it to the 2016 draft and release the report in the football news DEAD ZONE after the draft where the sports fans are consumed with the thrill and excitement of the MLB race.

Now take that kind of thinking (admittedly fanboy wish-fulfillment kind of thinking) and add the very real potential of the Patriots receiving compensation for the Jets tampering charges on top of it.

What if Goodell finds himself in the situation where the just thing to do is reward the Patrtios with a Jets pick for being tampered with AND a Colts pick for being set up and framed by them?

I get that its just pretend, winning-the-lottery kind of thinking, but imagine the dilemma Goodell would be in if both were true. He can't give both of these compensatory picks to the Patriots in the 2015 season on top of them receiving a 3rd rounder for losing Revis in FA. He might have a literal fan mutiny on his hands, maybe even at the owner level.

Delaying one or both of the compensations from these investigations would seriously diminish their value to the Patriots.

I only actually expect compensation for the Jets tampering, not the Colts.. and I expect that to be delayed to the 2016 draft.. just because its a **** move and one that has complete deniability on his end.

I'd be curious to know how long the investigation into Hardy's domestic assault took. I got the feeling that investigation started either March 4th when he was reinstated, or the month before when the charges were dismissed. Either way, this commissioner is practically tripping over his own feet to dole out Hardy's punishment, on what would be a far more complicated issue than the Jet's tampering (it was overturned on appeal, obviously the evidence was such that two courts could reach different results).

At the same time, he's missing an opportunity to break up the compensation over two drafts. I have to believe people will be far more concerned with two "compensatory" picks from other teams in the same draft, than a compensatory pick for Revis and another from the Jets or Colts for their actions.

So is tomorrow the day? Could it actually be?

If I recall correctly, Hardy reached a financial deal with the victim, which is why she didn't show up.

I think this aspect is just one of the reasons why it didn't sit well with the league office.

This decision by the LO is total BS. He's paying for the League Offices mishandling of the Ray Rice episode.

We effed up on that one, so now the next guy will pay the price for our mistake and mishandling of the situation to take the focus off of us. Total bull$h!t.

People in that orafice need to start getting fired and/or removed. They have no accountability and it's a disgrace.

I agree that a 25 game punishment seems extreme in this specific case.

Florio sheds some light on why it may be taking so long and it looks good for the Pats and not so good for Kensil and the League:

With the draft a week away, it remains unknown whether closure will come before the process of making picks begin. Some in league circles think that, whenever it ends, the Patriots will be cleared of any wrongdoing, given the absence of clear evidence of intentional, deliberate tampering with the air pressure in footballs used during the AFC title game.

But that doesn’t mean no one will be getting in trouble.

As one league source recently explained it to PFT, the league’s investigation has expanded to explore its own behavior, including for example the identity of person(s) who leaked to the media information that suggested the Patriots did something wrong.

A yup this is what i believe also. They found no evidence of tampering but did find evidence of an owner and his FO (and possibly member of the league office) conspiring to discredit an opponent. That would be a major black eye for the 'Shield' and we can't have that. By dragging this out they're hoping people forget about it. In reading some comments yesterday about trent cole saying that the word Patriots is not used by the colts organization (we're hated so much by them) none of the posters in the comments section mention delated footballs or cheating as to why the pats have embarressed the colts since luck has taken over as qb. I found that surprising.

I can't stand this drawn out s**t.

Whatever happened to the tampering charge? I guess there may have been some foreshadowing last month when they handed down the punishment for the Falcons, in the sense that nothing was going to get resolved for the 2015 draft, but that decision seemed like a slam dunk.

Did the Jets' retaliation simply water down our charge, while pointing out the ridiculousness of the whole rule (which may have been their intent), or has Goodell just been too busy shuffling through that :15 second soundbite from Woody Johnson?

I cannot believe people aren't pressing the issue. If I was an owner under fire, I'd be frustrated beyond belief. Yes, people will mention the NFL owners' "club". And how they all make money together.

In the end, they should almost all be (1) rich regardless of their nfl team (2) sports fans for having purchased the team (3) prideful in such a way that having months of slanderous comments sent their way should mean something.

Maybe it's as simple as this : I am a bigger a-hole that Robert Kraft and I'd be on the phone weekly asking why this Bs hasn't been resolved yet.

The whole thing is embarrassing.

By dragging this out they're hoping people forget about it.

If burying the story is what they wanted to do, they should've done the initial scientific investigation and wrapped things up in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. They could have cleared the names of the accused instead of forcing them to answer questions and hold separate press conferences during the days used for preparing for the championship game.

Once they had their initial investigation within the first 7-10 days, THEN they could've had some type of league investigation which would be occurring right now. That investigation could've focused on the league, high level execs, opposing teams, etc. Public interest would've been at 50 percent of what it is now.

I believe what has happened is that other stories, football and otherwise, have grabbed the public's attention over time, which is a natural occurrence. But anyone who thinks that this story has been forgotten by anyone, particularly the media, is delusional. The idea that burying the Wells report by releasing it at midnight on Christmas Day or some other prominent date/time will somehow keep the response to it muted is equally delusional. This was a huge, international story and delaying the report release is only causing people to doubt the league's credibility even more than they did before. It won't matter what the findings are because they'll be widely viewed with ridicule and skepticism. The league is in a no-win situation and it's deserved because it placed itself there.

I'm completely buffaloed by this. There is no excuse for holding us up this long. If I was Kraft I'd be furious. Every day that goes by is another day the Patriots organization walks around with a black eye. Does the NFL want us to become as cynical about it as we are about Washington D.C.?
