Florio: Source Says that Wells Report takings so long because investigation turned to the NFL

I can't wait for Sunday night, October 18. They're going to need a freaking basketball scoreboard to tally NE's points.
Correction: PINBALL scoreboard.

How long was the Dolphins' bullying investigation? Where are we in terms of beating that number of days?

We're about 7-10 days out (approx.) from being at the same point, which will occur during the first week of May.

The NFL should be on the hook for the way they handled this whole nontroversy.. first they leak to the story to an Indianapolis "hack" in the middle to the night.. then release info to Mortenson in the middle of Monday night and finally the big whammy they release info to Peter King early Wed. AM..

They clearly and obviously blew this whole issue, and underestimated the impact of their actions.. classic unintended consequences...

I used to think that they were delaying the final report to bury it on a day of some bigger news, now I believe that the report will probably be more critical of the NFL than the Patriots.. not what they wanted.

Maybe they will release it a week from Monday, when the NFL will be awash in draft news....

Deflategate made the national news for many days in a row. Months later, the President joked about it. I think the NFL has little choice but to play it straight in terms of blame, punishments and so on.

What will infuriate us all will not be that. Instead, what will infuriate us will be the claim that this decency is just the way the league usually rolls.

SharksOfVegas: The NFL knew the Patriots did not intentionally deflate footballs which is why Ted Wells was hired.

When pressed for verification, they said " source " with no intention of disclosing who that may be. Cannot blame them there.

???? If the NFL "knew" the Patriots did not intentionally deflate footballs, then why the hell didn't they say so that week and end the whole thing? Not buying it.

I think the NFL league sources knew exactly what the impact of their leaks would be and the witchhunt consequences to the Patriots were entirely intended.

It's hard to draw any other conclusion about the pattern and timing of the leaks.

The NFL was not organised. My bet is this was a rouge plan to take the Patriots down between Indy and some inside NFL folks not involving Goodell. Indy and this insider (Kensil?) figured that the PSI went down was proof they had caught the Patriots as they like 99% of the press, did not understand temperature to PSI. The leaked and smeared smugly at the start since they knew they had them (this was when the investigation was going to be over in 3 days). Then when things didn't fall into place and the specter of scientific answer appeared, the leaked any shred, half truth, lie to try and keep from facing the consequences. They acted like a kid saying the dog ate their homework and the dog was the Patriots.

Goodell and the Patriots were caught flatfooted because Goodell had no idea what was going on and the Patriots at that point had no idea how the footballs lost PSI either. The Patriots figured it out and fought back and Goodell is caught in the middle so hiring Wells was the sensible move since his own organisation was dirty. The only way I see Goodell surviving is to fire a bunch of people inside the NFL.

Maybe it was a sting by Goodell to get rid of certain elements in the head offices that he's been trying to oust and now he has his reasons. I thought Curran said something to that effect at the beginning, not the sting part but Goodell wanting to get rid of some people.

If you are referring to Kensil I don't know that it is that simple. Kensil's father worked for Pete Rozelle and Rozelle held him in very high regard.

Mike Kensil is a legacy and firing/disciplining him will be a very painful event, and who knows what skeletons in other people's closets that Kensil may be aware of and invoke in an effort to save himself.

In short the NFL may know they need to get root canal, but are doing everything possible to delay the procedure.

Is it at all possible that Goodell really is a halfway OK dude who has been undermined by those in his office multiple times, making him take the blame?

Seems unlikely, but I guess maybe it's possible...

I suppose that's possible, but if he's repeatedly put up with that crap from subordinates without disciplining them, then that brings me back to my original theory: he's neither qualified nor bright enough for the job. He certainly doesn't have a problem meting out Draconian sanctions on certain teams and individual players. It seems to be more who you are than what you've done with this guy.

I can't wait til the draft. i think it's going to be a fiasco of booing, maybe someone will throw some rotten tomatoes.
Why you gotta out me before for even I get my chance? I was gonna sneak in my pet Lemur Mukacko to hurl poop at him.

Because it involves the Patriots.
So true. Leave this fiasco that tarnished a great SB to hang around for the entire offseason and let the obvious tampering guilt of the Jets linger on a backburner less than a week before the draft.

If anyone says Goodell is Krafts boy, there a fool. No way Kraft lets his own brand get tarnished like this. Roger has tarnished the sheild he was elected to defend. If silence remains until the draft is over, he needs to go and Bob should lead the crusade.

This is incompetance of the highest order.

Pats and their fans had their trip to the Superbowl experience ruined. If they had to play the game a week later, as has often been the case, I don't know if the Pats would have been up to the challenge. I know how I felt one week after the Colts game.

It also applies to the Rats tampering as they get to proceed with their draft plans with all of their current and future draft picks intact, while the Pats have to scramble to replace Revis THIS YEAR.

In theory that is likely to make the Rats a better team this year and mean any pick the Pats get to be a lower pick, as well as the devaluing of having to wait at least one year to be made whole.

The Pats now also have to expend resources to replace Revis that could have been used towards addressing other needs.

Even if you can justify the delay in the release of the Wells report regarding deflated walls, it is separate from the Jets tampering. There is no justification for this to have been dragging on so long when the facts are not in dispute.

The NFL does not like to have New York teams not only out if the playoffs, but not even a contender. so the league will do whatever it can to change that. even if it means, letting the Jets get away from blatant tampering.

Oooo...a double sting. I like that one.
