Randy Gregory to be available in late first round?

i haven't really watched tape on him because he seemed like a a top 10 pick for sure. if he's available at 32, would you guys draft him?

my gut feeling is he is talented but will be a bust. i would say no - too many red flags.

Probably not because of his drug habit which seems to be something he's going to struggle with, but that length and athleticism is really interesting. The question is, where do you play him? SLB in base and EDGE in sub I presume because he's not really big enough to be an every down DE. Presumably he'd take Buchanan's roster spot if we drafted him.

The interesting thing to me is that in the past few days we've heard that same rumor about Randy Gregory and Shane Ray and Vic Beasley. It really points up that this class of pass rushers tends toward the lean/small side.

IMO any one of those players would be very useful on the Patriots (Beasley would be my strong preference among the three), but none of them is a natural fit. Given the chance, would you spend the pick on a gifted situational specialist?

I think you have too - but I think it would require some changes to the way we play on defense. We'd have to use more 3-4 looks or 3 linebacker looks just to get them on the field in non-obvious passing downs.

I will say this though. As I much as I love Shane Ray's tape, and I do, just watch him destroy DJ Humphries, he'd be comfortably of those three based on projectibility (Gregory's character issues might alter that). If Gregory didn't have concerns, I'd grade him and Beasley about the same but I would take them: 1. Beasley, 2. Gregory, 3. Ray.

So, we have three players who have been discussed as top 10 picks, and we're not sure whether we would touch them at 32.

I watched his youtube video and I only saw him once go up against a LT and beat him. All his plays were in open space and he looked like a safety. This guy will get run over in the NFL and all you have to do is look back at the 1st game of the year. Chandler Jones got run over and looked over matched trying to play DE in a 3-4. Jones has 30 pounds on this guy and he still got run over.

really weird draft. Pass rushers falling and corners rising.

I watched Gregory quite a bit at Nebraska, being an upper midwest guy. I think you guys have nailed it - he makes highlight reel plays when pitted against smaller blockers, or left alone on the edge. Doesn't dominate the LOS very often, from what I saw. Wears down during games to the point of being invisible after halftime. Is constantly chirping at opponents players, seems to always be in a scrap with someone. Was on the field when Melvin Gordon ran for about 5000 yards against Neb.

That's just the ON the field stuff. I hope we stay away from the guy, personally.
