2015 NFL Mock Drafts

How do you feel about Marcus Hardison? Jones-Marpet-Hardison would be close to a dream scenario for me at least. However, you can't go wrong with Abdullah or David Johnson in that slot either (after a trade up probably).

I honestly don't know much about him or other mid round DLs. I've looked at the RD1 guys and I'm not a fan. We definitely could use a guy in our DT rotation though.

Wow, looks like you're right:

@DraftCampbell: ICYMI- Per sources Ifo Ekpre-Olomu injury is worse than advertised. Some teams have him as an undrafted free agent. http://t.co/rGxt2LdqaQ

Who knows if the source is valid but an injury like Lattimore or McGahee...ouch. I'd still take him in rds. 6-7 and IR stash him. That's a shame.

I'm not sure what I'd do at 97, maybe trade up again in 70-80s if Abdullah falls. Not sure how I feel about the mid round DLs.

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is still a big time binky of mine and I mostly have given up on this year anyway.

I would say if he is there ar 132 he is STILL worth drafting. If you can get him in the 5th or 6th it is a no brainer IMO. This guy if healthy would be picked in the 2nd round and if he was healthy and 2 inches taller would probably be a first round pick.

My draft mock. I haven't bothered to specify the exact trades but they are roughly correct value wise.

32: trade down 10 spots and pick up a 4th round pick: Cedric Ogbuehi OT
64: trade up to 50 using 96 and select: Shaq Thompson LB
97: Tyler Lockett WR
101 Senquez Golson, CB
120: Mike Davis, RB
132 Mitch Morse OG
178 David Parry DT
219 David Andrews, C
253 Joe Cardona, LS (because its going to happen…)

Rebuild the offensive line, get the LB/S hybrid we've been after for a few years and get two my of my favourite players in the draft in Lockett and Golson.

The Approach

I think this is my first mock draft of the year because I keep going back and forth on how to approach it. The two biggest needs are obviously LG and starting CB, but how to fill those needs is the difficult decision. LG is the easier of the two to fill because it’s more of a plug and play position, while CB will be largely dependent on scheme.

In the end I went with improving the O-Line in the 1st round because I feel it’s the safer move. The issue I see at CB is while we may be able to get one of the top guys at 32 like Byron Jones or Marcus Peters, the odds of them stepping in and being a major contributor as a rookie aren’t great. Even if they do live up to their potential early on, we still lack another quality cover corner on the other side to continue to play an aggressive press-man scheme. So I think the best option right now might be to adapt our defensive scheme and try and upgrade the secondary with one of the 2nd tier CB’s.

32. OL- TJ Clemmings- Pitt/Jake Fisher- Oregon

This pick is to fill the LG position. I like both guys although they have very different skill sets. Who I would prefer probably depends on what their plan is for Nate Solder. If they plan on extending Solder I would probably prefer Fisher because I love his toughness, selflessness and intelligence to be a better LG long term. If Solder may be gone after 2015 then I might prefer Clemmings who can be groomed to take over at LT.

64. DT- Grady Jarrett- Clemson/Michael Bennett- Ohio State

The quickest way to the QB is up the middle and I think both Jarrett and Bennett can create pressure from the inside. If he is available I would prefer Jarrett because I think he is a better pure DT, but Bennett would be a solid alternative with Dominique Easley like versatility.

96. CB- Josh Shaw- USC / Ifo Ekpre-Olumu- Oregon

Losing Revis and Browner will force us to transform our secondary as we simply don’t have the talent to play press-man anymore. Instead I would be looking at CB’s that are better suited to off-man and zone coverage. As part of that I want guys that are smart, instinctive and have good fundamentals. Both Shaw and IEO are excellent tacklers that attack the ball and play the game hard.

97. OL- Daryl Williams- Oklahoma

Williams is largely projected at RT but I love him as a mauling RG, particularly if we do continue to look for larger O-lineman than we have in the past. He may be limited athletically but once he gets his hands on you it’s all over, that’s why I’d love to move him inside. People rave about his character and work ethic and I think he would make an excellent Patriot.

101. MLB- Taiwan Jones- Michigan State

Prototypical size for a Patriots LB’er with incredible functional power. Didn’t run well at the combine but I really don’t care. He plays the game hard and tough and I think he would be an excellent backup LB’er. I see him as a more athletic Brandon Spikes without the crazy.

131. WR- Stefon Diggs- Maryland

The Pats have been heavily linked to WR’s in the lead up to the draft. Diggs is an explosive home run hitter that could add an element to the Pats offence that has been missing. He was a top prep recruit that has never lived up to his potential due to injuries but has the potential to be a better pro than college player. Can also make an impact on special teams.

178. CB- Jacoby Glenn- UCF

A redshirt sophomore who will go much later than he hoped because he didn’t run well. Glenn is still very raw with a lot of room to grow, but he fits the system I would look to play. He is at his best in zone or off-man coverage where he can keep the play in front of him and attack. He has excellent ball skills and is active in run support.

219. DT- Ellis McCarthy- UCLA

Since he was recruited to UCLA, McCarthy has been seen as a potential first round pick. Unfortunately he hasn’t put it all together yet. I love his size and he is a decent athlete, but that hasn’t translated to the field yet. I think he can step in and be a big run stuffer in the middle with the potential to develop into move as he matures as a player.

253. RB- Michael Dyer- Louisville

Oh how time can change things. As a freshman Dyer rushed for over 1,000 yards leading Auburn to a National Title. After a number of off the field issues Dyer bounced around a number of different schools before ending up in Louisville. While he was never consistently the player he was at Auburn, he did show flashes of the player projected to be a future 1st rounder, particularly with his 134 yard, 3 TD effort against Florida State. At the end of the 7th round I think he’s worth a shot

Final Thoughts

- I think a trade down from 32 is quite likely because the talent in this draft is quite flat. I think we can move down 10 spots or so and still get a similarly graded player.

- I know some people have RB as a bigger need, but I’m okay with what we currently have. If we can add another RB or two as UDFA’s to compete for camp spots I think we will be okay.

- With this draft I love the size of our O-Line. Two 6’8” tackles, two 6’5” guards and a 6’4” C

- Undoubtedly I will change my mind again in the next week and make this exercise a complete waste lol

Excellent mock. You have a group that can really contribute and added key depth pieces. Love it!

Wow, very nice! Ogbuehi is rumored to be rising. To get him at 42 would be a steal. Thompson at 64 is incredible. bb could do tremendous things with him. Love the ls pick.

Ochmed's Final Mock Draft

I will not lie to you, the player I like most at #32 is Goldman, but I doubt he is still on the board. Same for corners Johnson and Peters. So I had to trade down. I used CBS draft site for player position #s [ ].

Trade #32 (590pts) to Cleveland for #43 (480 pts), #115 (64 pts) and #147 (33 pts). Three first rounders has to be enticing to Cleveland.

1.) #43 - P.J. Williams CB FSU. Not terribly concerned about the 40 time, but love his tape and he is a force against the run. A ton of big game experience. I am a bit concerned about the drinking. [44]

Trade #64 (270 pts) and #147 (33 pts) to Dallas for #60 (300 pts) This trade is to get ahead of Green Bay.

2.) #60 - Carl Davis DT Iowa. Big strong athletic run suffer capable of 2 gapping. Showed me something at the senior bowl practices. [52]

3.) #96 - Lorenzo Mauldin OLB Louisville. I really like his tape and think he can be a DE/OLB hybrid. NFL Mock has him going in the fourth round. [74]

4.) #97 - Ifo Ekpre Ollumu. CB Oregon. The next great BB slot CB. Stash on IR for a year. [99]

5.) #101 - David Cobb RB Minny. Replacement for Ridley. [107]

6.) #115 - Anthony Chickillo DE Miami. Great motor. [111]

7.) #131 - Austin Sheppard OG Alabama. I'm not a fan of Cannon or Devey at OG, but this guy is the best pulling O lineman in the draft and perfect for our offense. Just needs to get stronger. [154]

8.) #177 - Gerold Holliman S Louisville. Ball Hawk! [184]

9.) #219 - Kyle Emanuel ILB North Dakota State. I am kicking him inside in our defense. [212]

10.) #253 - Xavier Williams DT Northern Iowa. This guy has the heart of a lion and squeezes every last ounce of ability he has.. Used in rotation, he could develop into a contributor. [257]

OK I'll do one last one and do it without trades to keep it simple but they will probably move up and down frequently.

RD 1: #32 Eric Rowe CB Utah - Next to Peters the best press cover in the draft. Positional flexibility to play outside, slot or safety.

RD 2: #64 Danielle Hunter DE LSU - Hunter is a pick based on potential and based upon what it might cost to retain Chandler Jones and Sheard long term. With only one year for Jones and two for Sheard I think Hunter can be the all around good DE that Bill likes. If he can develop a second move and work on his hands he could potentially be a very good pass rusher. Hopefully he can join the rotation during the year.

RD 3: #96 Marcus Hardison DT ASU - Love the flexibility to have him play up and down the line situationally.

RD 3: #97(not tradeable) David Johnson RB No Ill - Big back who doesn't have to leave the field on third down.

RD 4: #101 Jeff Heuerman TE OSU - He's probably a luxury pick but if he last this long he's got the potential to be as good of a blocker as Gronk and can be a decent fill in if he's hurt. I love the idea of three TEs who can all catch and block coupled with Johnson at RB. Rex throws out a nickle or dime good luck to him when they run it down his throat.

RD 4: #131 Kenny Bell WR NEB - Good route runner with good short area speed coupled with the long speed. Could play inside or out, willing blocker.

RD 6: #178 Justin Coleman CB Tenn - Probably a slot or safety guy but he does have some press potential. Needs technique work but is athletic and has upside.

RD 7: #220 Cody Wichmann OG Fresno State - Bigger guard who will add some beef against the AFCE's lines.

RD 7: #254(not tradeable) Jarvis Harrison G Tex A&M - Good agility and short area quickness. I like Wichmann for RG and Harrison for LG.

We've discussed Rowe and Hardison ad nauseous so on to the other guys.

1. Danielle Hunter - Sorry but he's another I just can't get on board with. I see the plusses in terms of length and athleticism but man, he's so slow at the snap. That is the only knock I have on him but at DE, I think it's a fairly serious one. If we were playing a 3-4, I'd be much more comfortable.

2. David Johnson - LOVE this pick. I don't think he's a RB but he could a cross between Shane Vereen and Charles Clay. He's an excellent receiver and blocker. I remember seeing one pundit say he's the best blocker at RB he's seen at the Senior Bowl for years. An underrated part of his game.

3. Jeff Heuerman - Absolutely fine with the pick. But what do you envisage for Tim Wright? Cut, presumably. I suppose you can stick Wright on the roster at WR and nothing would change. Absolutely fine with the pick.

4. Kenny Bell - Another pick I really like. I was thinking about him in relation to Devin Smith. I've actually been one of the bigger fans of Smith but as my BB suggests, I've moved Bell ahead of him. I think they have similar games but Bell has a better chance of being an all-round WR than Smith does.

5. Justin Coleman - Fine pick. Don't know how well he'll cut it as a CB although he has the size and athleticism to succeed but he's supposed to be a very good special teamer which at this point of the draft is what matters.

6. Cody Wichmann - Can't comment on this one.

7. Jarvis Harrison - The value is of course fine, but I really don't like the prospect. If you can't be bothered to get out of bed for your pro day.... That's probably a slight exaggeration but he was supposedly late for his. Can't see that being met with approval by the Pats, especially as his work ethic has come into question anyway.

Obviously I prefer Jones and Jarrett but this is a fine mock nevertheless. The Hardison and Johnson picks make it for me.

Getting off the ball is a fair criticism. If he could get off the line he'd be a first rounder. I agree that he could play in a 3-4 off the line and I think he's better than Jones or Nink in space. It's a roll the dice on potential pick.

Agreed on his flexibility to be a flex TE but I think he can stay between the tackles. Potential matchup nightmare depending on the defense.

Yes I think Wright would be gone.

He is excellent on SP. Worst case scenario you get a plus special teams player cheap for 4 years. Upside a good starter in the secondary.

I didn't realize that. Very disappointing.

1. Agree on Hunter.

2. Re Harrison from Gil Brandt:

Guard Jarvis Harrison (6-foot-4 3/8, 327 pounds) showed up late to the pro day (he said his wristwatch alarm clock didn't go off on time).

Just tweaking my mock a touch in the Big Board thread, this is a mock based upon my big board and Lance Zierlein's 7 round mock.

32 - Byron Jones
64 - Grady Jarrett (or Marcus Hardison)
96 - David Johnson
97 - Ali Marpet
101 - DeAndre Smelter
131 - Ben Heeney
178 - Shaq Mason
219 - Ryan Delaire
278 - Cassius Sendish

It would take longer for me to come back to earth after that draft than it would a manned Mars mission.

I can see the scenario playing out something like your first three picks. If I had to predict one player in this draft to us, it's Carl Davis after a trade down with early 2nd. Or, trade up with second #2. I even like Mauldin. You can never have enough pass rushers in this league.

Then, you go off the rails a bit. Olumu's injury is really serious. Not picking him until 6th or 7th. I'm not sure about Cobb's ability to make people miss. And, we have A de earlier instead of Chickillo. I'm going WR, OL and RB with my next 3. Hopefull, Lockett and Mike Davis. I like J. Douglas in that area.

No prob with anything after that.

I've wanted to go OL there every time I mock and there just isn't a guy for me that stands out for what they do. In theory I agree. Long snapper is very possible in that spot.

No problem with the first 4 picks.

101 is too high for Smelter.

If Laurence Gibson is still available at 178, then I'm taking him instead of Mason.
(though how much fun would the 1-on-1s between Jarrett & Mason be?)

What position would Delaire play here?

Do you consider Sendish competition for Chung or for Harmon?

1. Not as far as I'm concerned.

2. Jarrett and Mason would be fun. Both undersized and quick. A 50/50 battle.

3. Possibly Chung, or even Tavon Wilson. Has the smarts and instincts to play anywhere in the secondary other than outside CB.

4. Delaire would be a backup pass rusher. Goodbye Jake Bequette.

5. Haven't watched Gibson. Only thin I know about him is his incredibly long arms.

But Smelter can be had later; no need to use 101 for him when 177 should do the job.

Until he gets taken at 176. He's one of the best WRs in the draft as far as I'm concerned. I'm fine taking him anywhere from the second round onwards.
