Draft Nuggets and Rumours.

http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=10495

One scenario I’m hearing for the New England Patriots is a trade out of the 32nd pick, something the team has had a lot of success with in the past, and moving down a few slots to select offensive guard AJ Cann. This would fill a big need at guard for the team. I’ve been skeptical of Cann’s movement skills but was told the big offensive lineman, who has been struggling with a calf strain since the end of the season, worked out for several teams on Monday and ran both the short shuttle and 3 cone at the request of coaches. He timed 4.51s in the short shuttle and 7.37s in the 3 cone, both terrific marks. Only two offensive linemen, Jake Fisher and Ali Marpet, ran faster times during the combine.

I am somewhat skeptical however the aforementioned scenario is a slim possibility. If true, I would be interested in the New England Patriots cornerback rankings.

Makes sense to me -- Dupree is the only elite rusher in this draft with a legit DE frame. The undersized rushers have a higher bust rate.

I had him go at 9 to the Giants when I did my live mock. I wonder if Obdighizuwa's stock gets boosted for the same reason - he doesn't quite have the length you'd like but he's an every down 4-3 DE.

It's interesting that the NFL guys like Jeremiah and Charles Davies don't seem to like Diggy at all. They're constantly talk about Eli Harold but barely give Diggy a mention.

From an interview with Shaq Thompson:

Have any teams said they prefer you at safety?
No. Most teams I talked to said weakside linebacker. The Falcons (thought I am) more like a Kam Chancellor type, so kind of like the linebacker role. There's just different views, but at the end of the day I just want to get drafted. It doesn't matter what position, I just want to have the opportunity to compete.

We have been looking at Kam Chancellor types. It wouldn't surprise me if BB drafted him for that role.

6. Links the Seahawks to DGB. Sheesh! Imagine if that happened and paid off.

He's going to go to some team that can afford the gamble. I don't expect the Patriots even have him on the board because of Kraft on domestic violence (I'm not arguing with this), but he could pay off big for the Seahawks or another similar team.

Agreed on both the Kraft policy and DGB's potential for success.

I can very easily see Thompson at safety. But I wonder how steep the learning curve would be. If we were to see any production out of the gates in his rookie season, it would probably be toward the end of the year if at all.

I think you're right, but I'm not unduly worried by that with Chung or the McCourty/Harmon combo* also getting reps at the 2nd safety role.

* Where McCourty moves to strong safety and Harmon takes McCourty's role at FS.

I mean if we were to draft Thompson, I can see him replacing Chung, and lets be real, Chung last year was more of another LB than a safety.

Oh easily. And if you follow my posts, you know that I'm no fan of Chung playing a deep safety role. I think he sucks there. He's better suited to playing in the box.

So here's my next question. Shaq Thompson or Jacquiski Tartt? There might be a whole round of difference between the two in terms of where they are drafted. Are they that different in terms of on-field talent?

I'd probably prefer Tartt. Less of a conversion project and the more violent hitter of the two. Plus you wouldn't have to expend as much draft capital.

I agree. Not sure I want to spend a first/first pick in the draft on Thompson. I can see why they'd do it, I'd just prefer to go in a different direction.

Here is one that I have not heard about and is very interesting to me.

TYRELL WILLIAMSSchool: Western Oregon (Division II)
Position: Wide receiver
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 204 pounds

Williams is a small-school receiver with great measurables who apparently appeared on New England's radar recently.

According to CBS Sports' Rob Rang, Williams had a pre-draft visit with the team

IMO Gregory has a whole cluster of red flags, on and off the field. The drug tests are only one part of the picture.

As a player I like him - I love the upside if used properly. Personality -wise, that's another matter. As a player though, he's a legitimate top 10 player.

At the very least he should be one hell of a gunner. And you know how much BB likes those. I don't think I'd take Thompson before day 3, because of the uncertainty of where he fits. And I doubt he lasts that long. But early day 3 if he's on the board. :)

At the very least we get an Ebner type, then anywhere else he fits is gravy.
