Florio: Source Says that Wells Report takings so long because investigation turned to the NFL

"not recorded" does not necessarily imply "not known".

Hypothetically:
Wells: Walt, what do you recall about the balls at the pre-game check?
Walter Anderson: They were all right around 12.5 PSI.
Wells: Did you notice anything odd or strange?
Anderson: Nope. They were all at least 12.5 PSI -- we approved them, after all. Some may have been a little bit higher, but they were all pretty close to 12.5.

Yes, you are correct that they cannot on a ball-by-ball basis match pregame readings to halftime readings. But if the ref saw there was little variation between the balls at checkin, that doesn't really matter.
if we are going to be judged off of the words of the ref, and not actual written down records of the balls, then the ref should be forced to give his report via lie detector test.

"Did you actually measure the balls, or did you do the squeeze test?"

i actually measure the ba *BZZZZZZRT*

"sir may i remind you, that you are under oath here to tell the truth"

I may have just squeezed a coupl *BZZZZZZRT*

"sir, we can do this the easy way or the hard way"

I didn't measure any of them, before or after the game, they felt fine before, during and after, i don't understand all teh fuss, please dont fire me.

Its pretty safe to assume Andersons integrity would not be questioned.

Well, not by the NFL, anyways. :)

But seriously, there is no way that the NFL is going to throw a game official under the bus on this. They will take Anderson's statement as to the starting conditions as truth for the purposes of the investigation.

I'm too lazy to go back through and understand why I was left with the following impression, and we have so much mis-information its hard to know what to think, but was anyone else left with the impression that Anderson just hand-checked them and a younger ref actually checked them? I remember reading that was SOP, and also felt like the NFL was careful to avoid saying Anderson gauged them himself.

Robo and Andy - enough.

Any more and I will recommend to Ian to block your posting capability in this thread going forward.

Nobody truly gives a care about your petty competition. It infects too many threads. PM each other if you need to argue with yourselves.

.

I have given up on arguing with Andy about this already.

And I am certain that Wells will view him as truthful. I mean if a referee would lie about that, then the integrity of any game is squat.

And I was never arguing, just responding to posts about my posts.

But Curran never contradicted any thing that Florio is saying here. Curran never said that the Wells investigation isn't looking into the League or the Colts. He just said his source (who he says he doesn't know if that source's information is accurate or just rumors or spin) said that they are being very, very thorough with their investigation to the point of possibly being ridiculous with the Patriots. But he also said the source said that they are investigating anyone who touched the balls or knows of who touched the balls and that would include the refs, Kensil, the Colts' staff, etc.

After everything has come out, there is no way the Wells investigation isn't looking into the League or Colts. If they released a report now that was 100% Patriots focused, everyone in the media other than the Patriots haters would kill this investigation. There are far too many questions about how this whole thing was handled by the League and Colts from who knew before and what they did and all the inconsistencies of the stories to all the leaks that turned events that either had nothing to do with the Pats or things that really weren't all that big of a deal into smoking guns as evidence of the Patriots cheating. And of course the fact that they had an employee that they either knew or suspected of stealing game used merchandise handling the kicking balls during a league championship game. There is no way the Wells report can't investigate the League. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Unfortunately, probably three quarters of the media is Patriots haters. Or at least they'll whore themselves out for anything that brings in clicks, and Patriot hating does that pretty well.

If the Wells Report does indeed find that employees of the NFL did something wrong, whether it's the attempted sting operation by a certain jilted ex-jets member or the leaking of misinformation in an attempt to smear the Patriots, and the NFL actually allows this report to go public, it will restore some of my faith in the clowns running this league

I would love to see the report go in this direction, but think of the criticism thus opens the NFL up for. Someone working for the league may have leaked information in order to smear a team and distract it from Super Bowl preparations. A league employee may have gone rogue to run a sting operation over the PSI in footballs during the AFCCG. Goodell made some comments to distance himself from Kensil and any activities during the AFCCG, but he will still look bad if this stuff is happening behind his back.

Some people will think "Oh, it's just the Patriots" but others will wonder what other agendas the league has, either for or against certain teams. The way events unfolded, I'm not sure if the LO had a chance to change much of the initial reaction. Instead of letting the Patriots twist in the wind, someone should have considered the possibility of this backfiring and squashed this early on. Now, there's a chance that the NFL, as a whole, will look bad.

The only reason it could take this long is to build a narrative to spin.

Absolutely ... every time the NFL soils itself they then become the born again NFL ...
Business is so good they can become born again to ~.

The league office is no longer involved in the investigation. That is important to note. This is not a leak from the investigation, but quite possibly, a leak from those being investigated now..

Aha! So now we have leakers leaking new leaks.

Thanks for all of you who helped me with my Grigson question. Here's what we know;
He's currently the GM for Indy.
He traded a 1st round pick for Trent Richardson.
He started deflategate but we're not sure how.
He was with SL when the Pats Silenced the Rams.
He was also with Philly during the Donovan McGagg SB era.
Wow! With that resume' he could be at NFL HQ with the Jets fans.

My hope is that the delay continues past next weekend. This way the 2015 draft will
not be part of any final disposition.

They probably would rather take away a higher pick than last pick in any round. They will finish the investigation after Brady and Belichick retire and the Patriots fall into last place. That way they can take away our number 1 pick overall.

Wasn't it over a month ago when Goodell said the the report is coming out anyday now? NFL is looking more and more nefarious with each passing day.

You say nefarious, I say inept and corrupt. Michaels and Collinsworth at the end of the SB talking about the next month/few weeks being critical now sound ridiculous. Business as usual at Roger's outhouse. Embarrassing...
