Interesting Prospects We've Had No (Or Little) Contact With

As interested as I am in the prospects we've had reported pre-draft contact with, the prospects that we haven't been reported as having any contact with can be just as interesting. It may very well transpire that some of the prospects I mention may very well have had some level of contact with the Pats but the fact that that contact isn't made public is just as interesting.

Disclaimer - The list I put together only consists of what has been made public. There was a report yesterday that the Patriots have had some form of workout with maybe as many as 350 prospects.

1. Very few LT to LG converts in the Mankins mould. No Jake Fisher, Ty Sambraillo, DJ Humphries or TJ Clemmings (we did speak to him at the Senior Bowl).

2. Cam Erving isn't on the list. Dante was at the FSU pro day so that probably qualifies, but every draft able player on that FSU OL has had specific contact mentioned whereas there have no such reports about Cam Erving that I've seen.

3. Duke Johnson/Ameer Abdullah - As I mentioned elsewhere, considering that CJ Spiller and Reggie Bush both got looked at in FA, this seems like an interesting omission as these are the two backs most similar to those guys.

4. We've had contact with Trae Waynes, Byron Jones, Kevin Johnson and Marcus Peters but not Jalen Collins? Interesting. Particularly as he might have the widest range of projections of them all.

5. Devin Smith, Devin Funchess. With all the other outside deeper threat receivers they've looked at, these seem like interesting omissions.

6. Eric Kendricks - They've looked at all the other top linebackers, just not this one.

They might have dismissed these players, they might already know everything they need to know on these prospects or they might well have worked these guys out and the information hasn't made it into the public sphere (which is, of itself, interesting). There might very well be good reasons for these omissions. Nevertheless, I think some of these omissions might have some meaning.

I really hope we don't take Funchess. I wouldn't be against any of the other names you've listed but I really don't rate Funchess,

Great thread, really interesting. Thanks for this. Makes you really wonder what's going on behind the scenes. One guy I wonder about also is Dorial Green Bekham. Did we have contact with him, because of the Hernandez situation , I think there is no way we take a player like him who has done things like he has.

I'm halfway tempted to joke that, considering their track record of drafting CB's and WR's, the team should probably draft the guys they didn't look at or extensively work out. ;)

The Pats have supposedly worked out more than 350 prospects. I'm sure they haven't missed many
