Patriots and Jerod Mayo Have Agreed to a Restructured Contract

My guess for the Jerod Mayo restructure.

While I do not think that it will be right I should take a guess at the actual structure of the Mayo deal. Here it is. Mayo gets a $1,500,000 signing bonus. Mayo's salary is lowered from $6,250,000 to $3 million salary fully guaranteed. $3 million guaranteed salary plus the $1.5 million signing bonus equals $4.5 million in full guarantees. Mayo can get to the 6 million in compensation by playing in more than 85% of the defensive snaps in 2015.

Current Deal New Deal
Salary $6,250,000 $3,000,000
46-man active Roster Bonus $187,500 $0
2015 Signing Bonus Proration $0 $500,000
2012 Option Bonus Proration $2,400,000 $2,400,000
2011 Signing Bonus Proration $1,200,000 $1,200,000
OffSeason Workout Bonus $250,000 $0
Totals $10,287,500 $7,100,000
2015 Gross Cap Savings $3,187,500

Corrected minimum of $1,000,000 comes from
1.) Lowering salary from $6.25 million to $5,250,000.

New cap number would consist of
$5,250,000 salary ($4.25 million fully guaranteed)
$3,600,000 old signing bonus proration
$250,000 workout bonus
$187,500 46-man active roster bonus
==========
$9,287,500

The $5,250,000 salary plus the $250,000 workout bonus plus the possible $500,000 in earnings from the 46-man active roster bonuses equals maximum compensation of $6 million as reported by Mike Garofolo.

LOL - I get a dislike for providing information.

This structure sounds about right, with only $1M being pushed into the future.

The option numbers should interesting. Of course, we understand what happened to the options this year. These options simply seem to set a beginning bargaining position, and establish a draft pick for the patriots.

As an aside, when we needed the cap money, higher savings were projected. I like Miguel's structure, but $1.4M more cap savings were available if needed. Obviously, the additional cap savings isn't needed.

With mayo back healthy next year and SF lb corp done...

We have the best lb group in the league

It wasn't a $8.1M salary. It was a $4.5M salary plus the old signing bonus.

I'm not commenting on his value to the team. I was merely looking at what was reported and it was reported that he was getting $4.5M with the opportunity to make $6M.

If it is $4.5 M, then either he's either getting a $900k salary or $4.5M salary. Then the old signing bonus has to be added which would be $3.6M. So if this news report is correct then the 2015 cap hit has to be either $4.5M or $8.1M along with any incentives that might be earned.

In digging into it, I think you are right.

I misspoke on salary. My bad. Sorry for the confusion. I meant total 2015 payout and cap hit.

We know payout is going to be around $6m. We also know that the $3.6m needs to be accounted for somehow. My guess is that they'll spread this out (as they did for the Revis deal) and lessen the 2015 cap hit. I'm guessing 2015 hit will be around $7m+?

No problem.

Per Miguel in this thread, the $3.6M can't be spread out. It has be taken in 2015.

I guess my point was that we can't be sure yet how much cap savings there really is with this restructure. Currently, we can only guess.

I just read Miguel's post.

Yea. We are all guessing here but the 3.6m seems like a charge that'll go down in 2015

The Patriots had the best LBs in the league already. It's going to be absolutely dominate next season.

I like your optimism, but that would require Mayo to return to 100%, something most athletes do not do after a torn PCL. However, we can hope.

And that SF D was dominant without a clear CB1.

It was not I, but on my @$!*&%$ iPhone when I try to hit like, over half the time it posts Dislike

Plus, there is no consensus or even standard on what a dislike vote means.

I had extra mayo on my sandwich for lunch today in honor of #51.

I think I'll get in on the daily sacrifices.... adding mayo onto my french fries as we speak.

With a dominant front 7, you can put any jag out at CB and be successful

I've discovered that in Ireland, many people enjoy mayo on their fries, or as they are known there,
on their chips (potato chips are known there as crisps).
