The New England Patriots are finalizing a revamped contract for linebacker Jerod Mayo that will keep the two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Super Bowl champs as he recovers from a knee injury suffered last season, sources have told FOX Sports.

From patscap.com

For comparison purposes as more details come up, Jerod Mayo for 2015:

Previous Contract
Signed Through: 2017
Salary: 6,250.000
Prorated Signing Bonus: 3,600,000
Roster Bonus: 187,500
Workout Bonus: 250,000
Total Cap Figure: 10,287,500

Reworked Contract

Will fill this in as "we" learn more.

@NEPD_Loyko: Those new numbers should save #Patriots upwards of 4+ million in cpa space.

Do we get some immediate cap relief with this move ?

Fantastic news. I kind of expected Mayo would work it out but I'm glad to see it's definitely happening. Now all that's left is to see what sort of cap relief was obtained, and then contemplate its potential use...

Interesting that there are two option years. I wonder if they are two one year options? Provides the team the ability to release him after the year is up if he doesn't perform fully to their liking and recoup compensatory draft capital when another team signs him.

Yes!!! I knew he would come through for them and make this work!

10-12 million in cap space, back to double digits. Draft day trade coming maybe?

A source tells me that the Pats haven't had many draft talks w/ other teams. and that he expects that to increase a bit next week, mostly during the actual draft.

Ok fine. ;)

Caserio says Pats haven't had many draft talks w/ other teams. Expects that to increase a bit next week, but mostly during the actual draft.

Love that mayo took a very team friendly deal despite having all the leverage at this point.

I hope he is able to have a good year, and we keep him around for a few more after this one. He's not as crucial as he once was, what with hightower and collins taking huge steps up the last couple of years, but mayo is still a top tier LB in the league.

@RapSheet: #Patriots & captain Jerod Mayo agreed on a 1-year deal for $4.5M fully guaranteed. Chance to make $6M, source said. Then 2 option years.

Wow! Mayo is the man.

Great news. This is what the cap is what I have begrudgingly come to call pseudo "crap". If you have players who are willing to negotiate in good faith for the team and not just themseleves (Mevis looking at you), the cap is manageable. If there isn't a clearer example, then I don't know.

I'm just glad to see him back. I think he brings a leadership element on D that can't be overlooked. Plus if he can stay healthy, then Hightower can do what he does best.

Linebackers get hurt all the time, so while I get your point, I think he's very crucial.

I hope he recovers fully - the guy's had crap luck. But man, what a class act he is.

If Pats do not pick up option in 2016 Mayo will then become an UFA and be eligible for 2017 comp pick calculations

Do not know enough details to guesstimate cap savings. Need to know if guaranteed amount is salary or signing bonus.

Any signing bonus given to Mayo as part of this restructure would be prorated over 3 seasons (2015/2016/2017).

What i meant was before when he got hurt the first time it was pretty doom and gloom around here. Mayo was the heart of the defense, how int he world were we supposed to do anything without him, and then vince went down, and instead of falling apart the team went to the AFCCG. Then the next year mayo went down again, and because of collings and hightower it was less doom and gloom, vince stayed healthy and we won the title.

Basically a couple of years ago, losing mayo would have been like losing brady, at least mentally, for a lot of fans. but its just not the case anymore, we have won a title and came close to having a chance at a second one the last two years that Mayo has missed time.

I love the guy, I love this deal. I hope he bounces back after some bad luck.

Plus, we get to keep "Lil' Mayo" around!!!!

My family loves watching her videos.
