Who would other teams trade UP for at 32?

In this case Jones are still on the board, so you take him not the trade :)

No... that's the whole point! If Jones is there, the plan is to pimp the Vikings for full trade value (or more) on the belief that they need to outbid us for the player.

If MINN wanted the same type of players as we do, then they would try to move ahead of us, not trade with us.

Obviously a RB like Gurley or Gordon. Can see a team wanting to lock one of those up for five years. By the way, this is a good reason for BB not taking Gurley at 32. Can't see BB paying the 5th year option for a RB.

The others that spring to mind are Landon Collins, one of the WRs, particularly DGB, DJ Humphries or Eric Kendricks.

I disagree with the suggestion that Belichick would not draft Gurley. With regard to the 5th year option, that could simply be a sign and trade if Belichick doesn't want to pay for the 5th year.

Players could include the next best WR or CB. Obviously, the two RB's and Kendricks should be on any list. Also, someone might want Peat, Cann or Fisher if Belichick doesn't want to draft a starting LG at 32.

You would think so. But as Patchick pointed out higher in the thread, the last two times BB traded down was with teams trading up for players at positions of actual need for the Pats. The didn't trade ahead, they swapped places. So, conventional wisdom may have it wrong.

BB (on the clock): are you still interested in trading into this spot? Is your player on the board?

GM: yes we are; yes he is

BB: well, we have a DB that we like at this spot, but will consider trading back. What is your best offer?

GM: (they're going to take him if I dont act...its gotta be now or we're stuck with Plan B) /overbids

Another possible trade-up target is Bryce Petty. Someone like Cleveland or St Louis might want to move ahead of Washington and Jesters.

I think Carolina at 25 is a good move up spot for us. Gets us ahead of; GB, Baltimore and Dallas. All teams which could go cb. Carolina needs a tackle and can prob get Clemmings at 32.

Yep, but the trick is they were positions of need, but overhyped players the Patriots had no actual interest in. IIRC, Ivan Fears told the Gillette draft-day crowd clearly that Ingram wasn't of interest to them. And Patterson was an obvious non-fit, IMO -- learning challenges and no route-running.

It's the bluff that matters. The perception of risk is what makes the other GM frantic enough to offer value to a level where BB will pull the trigger. If the Saints didn't feel that Ingram was about to disappear, they would have waited and traded a spot or two lower. I'm sure Fears didn't mention their lack of interest to anyone in the Saints organization.

Although not the case for Ingram and Patterson, I do think BB will contemplate a trade back if the value offered is good, even if there is a player he is willing to draft at that spot. Did he really not like Clay Matthews, or was the trade value just more compelling?

I think he's actually the most likely candidate. The top-2 runningbacks will likely be gone by 32 and teams that aren't picking in the top-8 of the 2nd round likely realize that the teams that didn't go QB, or have the option to in the 1st rd will be searching at this point of the draft.

Bryce Petty, for sure.

I could certainly see Belichick trading down with a top corner on the board. To me, that would mean that he didn't value the player much higher than the corners available in the 60-80 range, the next likely place for a corner to be drafted. Besides, a trade down might still get us a top OG and a CB at 64.

With regard to pc's comments, I agree that Berlichick will have no problem passing on players at positions of need. After all, the players there might have 2nd or 3rd round grades on a patriot board.
