I'm seeing indications that Miami

to get a paycheck.............. Different between playing and being in the NFL is what I meant.

OK. Well that's debatable. Even if Williams is a mercenary I think he could help our offense.

would cut Ricky Williams even if he's reinstated. Do you think it would be a good idea to bring him into TC at the vet minimum. If he's close to being the RB he once was ( He'd have to prove it in TC ) he'd be in the same situation as Moss, something to prove and a chance to get the ring. Not a bad backup !!

Just a thought

I would highly DOUBT that you would ever see Williams cut by Miami. Considering that they only have Ronny Brown as their key guy...look for Ricky to come back.

If they did somehow cut him...it might be worth a look at him.....I would rather have Ricky than Heath....one man's opinion

I'm for it. Who do we have now behind Maroney? Sammy Morris, Justise Hairston, and Quadtrine Hill. While I hope one of Hairston or Hill develops into a player we could use frequently, if Maroney goes down, I'm not very confident in our running game. Williams would excel in our zone blocking scheme, because, while he's bigger than Maroney, he's also smart and has decent speed (better than some typical smashmouth runner like Dillon). Williams is also a pretty good pass catching RB, so we could even use him for 3rd downs if Kevin Faulk, who's durability has been questionable the past couple of years, is injured or tired.

Hell yeah!!

Give me a frigging break. Heath Evans is NOT a goal-line back. He STINKS at short yardage.

Also, I suggest you go back and review the AFCCG when the Pats had 3 RBs injured and unable to play and had to rely on Evans to be the every down back. It was horrible and it was one of the reasons the Pats couldn't move the ball in the 2nd half and couldn't keep the Colts offense off the field.

Now, that being said, the Pats may not have that issue this year with Morris. But Faulk has had one injury or another each of the last 3 years that caused him to miss significant time. Do you REALLY want to play the odds that Faulk can stay healthy the WHOLE season?

I agree with you....Heath Evans had one really great game against Miami.....since then he hasn't shown much at all when he has come into the game.......I wouldn't be surprised to see him cut

Ricky is done. You can't miss that much live action and still be effective at that position.

Says the man with the Dread the Patriots sig.

Come on, he'd be perfect for your graphic, admit it!

Yeah, but Brian cox was once in the same position, and said the same thing. He was a 'mercenary all about the moolah." He still performed though.

Jesus we are going to end up with one hell of a smoking circle. Was this whole off-season about getting Bill B's son some friends to toke up with? :D

This dumb thread needs an anti-sticky, one that will keep it forever at the bottom of the list.

I bet you didn't want Moss either.
I didn't, but he took a tremendous pay cut to come here, and I have to respect someone who says soem things are more inportant than money, and drops seven million dollars in order to put his money where his mouth is, as opposed to guys who will go anywhere as long as it is to the guy who offers the most jack. I'll give him a chance to prove or disprove himself.

The bigger question is why are you equating Moss and Williams.

They are nothing alike IMO, and the Pats haven't shown any interest in trading for Williams.

I think the thread is dumb for a couple reasons:

- Why would the Dolphins cut Williams if he were re-instated? At least trade him.

- Why would the Pats want him. No, he is nothing like Moss or Dillon or Harrison. Or TO for that matter. I don't want TO, but at least he is a top elite player, and the greater potential reward justifies a potential risk.

- This is just one of those stupid "Team X just released Player Y. Should the Pats sign him." except that Williams in not only not released, he isn't even in the NFL.

Where is that anti-sticky when you need it?

You do realize that Ricky will play for veteran minimum right? A guy that talented playing for that cheap, why the hell would he be let go for nothing.

Hell no. Just because we took a chance on a tremendous player like Moss doesn't mean we will be going after every mentally stunted head case.

Williams was the best RB in the league four and a half years ago. I would say its been that long for Moss too, since he was at the top of his game. We are still taking a chance on Moss because we know the talent is there. Williams wouldn't even cost us a draft pick, or if he did it would be a 6th rounder or less. Like Moss and Dillon, Williams has something to prove. Williams has never quit during a game or yelled at his coaches. He had off-field emotional problems that he's taken care of. As BelichickFan said, Saban liked him and it must say something that despite his out-of-nowhere retirement, his Dolphin teammates still wanted him back.

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins may not keep RB Ricky Williams even if he is reinstated by the league. The Dolphins drafted RB Lorenzo Booker and he seems to fit the team's need for a third-down back behind starting RB Ronnie Brown.

No way on this one. Maroney and Morris are enough. We don't need another high priced vet to come in (he won't sign the vet minimum, keep dreaming) for a paycheck and guaruntee that he'll pass a piss test.

Screw that. Bring back the good Dolphins runningback in Canada...

The one...

The only...

Robert Edwards!

Wow, this is twice I've agreed with you in two days. (The other one was when in another thread you said it was laughable that the Doofins would win five games.)

Well, agreed with most of what you said. Ricky isn't so talented anymore. Couldn't hack it in the CFL, but I agree that he is a perfect fit for the Dolphins.

Yeah but with only 3 downs and the the gigantic field in the CFL, it's awfully hard to put up big numbers in that league.
