BB on WEEI right now

Not sounding like a guy who's leaving after this season, either.

Keeps emphasizing the fact that they shuffled things around to have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds next year.

Ya, i will write what i remember when he's done...looking good for next year too!

After listening for the first 20 minutes, is all I can say it takes a bunch to get under his skin.. the Moss is something that was well thought out on just about every angle and is not an impulse.

Could anyone post the highlights for those of us on the West coast. Thanks.

Poor Fred having to face his idol after being so critical of his latest acquisition was comical. And Glenn forced the issue with Fred leading off and reiterating his concerns in the form of a rambling question that was winding up with - of all the guys I never expected to see here - and BB (laughing) cut him off with "TO?"

Bill is comfortable with his decision. He understands why there would be concerns voiced, but he asked Fred to give it a chance. He will also not put it back on his players to make this guy work. This is between him and Randy, and he believes the potential upside outweighs any potential risk. Says Randy will be OK with his "touches" because more than any player in the league he understands the double team and how you beat it (personally or as a team).

Said they could yet use some of the draft picks they traded for to improve the team this year, or not, or could end up trading them again next year. Said they will do whatever helps the team this year or represents value because they plan to be open for business here again next year! ;)

Also reiterated for the umpteenth time that he expects Troy to be a part of the team. Said he fulfills a variety of rolls (bingo to BB) and what he brings continues to have value on this team.

LOL He is in rare form with this crew whom he obviously loves talking with. Said he did it all just to give them something to talk about! That was actually the driving reason behind the acquisition. And they say he has no sense of humor...

He said again that Troy Brown WILL have a role with this team this season.

One of his funniest moments ever.... at the end as Glenn was thanking him in his recap he mentioned the Moss signing as being one of the most talked about moments and BB cut him off to say that one of the driving motives for getting the deal done was so Glen et all had something to talk about! Cracked everyone up!!! Without doubt Glenn, DeOssie, and Smerlas get some of BB's best!

Ok, here's what i can remember:

-BB was in a great, funny, joking mood

On Moss:

-BB feels comfortable with him on the team (he kept reiterating that)

-They did a lot of homework beforehand on Moss and knew what they were getting (interviews with former coaches, players, ect...)

-Won't talk about the contract (he never talks about anyone's contract...so this is normal)

-The leadership of the pats team is solid, although that didn't affect his thought process on bringing moss in

-Very confident there will be no issues with Moss

-No one has seen more double coverage in the last 9 years than Moss...he knows that means less balls thrown to him and what that entails

-BB's excited about the new WR core and is already working with some of them in the off-season workouts

-Laying down the pats system with the new guys is what's important...once they get that they will move on to packages, ect..

-The pats had no interest in Brady Quinn with the #24 although they would have traded it if given the chance because there would probably be great value there...although he thinks KC would have taken him if Cleveland didn't get him. Having Quinn would have watered down the rest of the team with the amount of money he would have commanded

-BB expects to have Troy Brown on the team this year in some form..he brings so much to the table i can't imagine him not being here

On Meriweather:

-Versatile player, football guy, loves the game

-He has a lot of experience in a "pro like" system in Miami

-Very smart guy

-Everyone makes mistakes when they are young (which he said last Friday in an interview on the big show)

On the Draft:

-Very long 1st round with everyone looking to trade or do something and taking their full allotment of time

-The draft was watered down by rounds, so every round the teams at the top of the round got a lot better value than the teams at the lower end of the rounds

-There was a lot more value (most of the time) in moving pics, than making them

-The pats haven't changed the style of drafting

-With the #28 pick to the 49ers they figure (going by past percentages) to move up to at least the middle of the 1st round next year if not higher...so the value was there to do it even though there were players they liked in that spot

-Talked a lot about next year and setting themselves up...which looks good for BB staying around

-"We plan to be in business next year"

Giving the big show some material and plenty to talk about was the driving force behind the draft and the moss trade....give him a call in June if things slow down:D

Thanks to all who posted replies. Interesting stuff. I'd love to see Troy back for one more. I also feel bad for those WRs who'll end up getting cut.

Great posting! Thanks for taking the time to write it down.

Quite relieved that BB thinks so much of Troy Brown!

So, Randy double covered on one side with Stallworth in single coverage on the other? :D
