Georgia RB Gurley to visit Patriots

Probably a smokescreen/due diligence as others have said, but it wouldn't shock me since they wanted Steven Jackson back in 2004(reference: just finished reading War Room).

If memory serves, there have only ever been four (or five) RBs of Gurley's size and age drafted. Jackson was one of them.

I could envision a scenario in which they draft Gurley in the 1st, address DT and 3rd WR early on in the draft, and trade their fourth for Mathis plus move Fleming to G as well. Could work, maybe.

Last year no one thought Bridgewater would be available for us, he was a lock to be a top 3 pick.

The Pats hosted Johnny Manziel for a visit, too. Let's not let our imaginations run completely off the hook.

The fact that they didn't match (or even reportedly offer) Ridley the minimal deal that he got from the Jets suggests that they have some other idea for how they'll address the position. The losses of both Ridley and Vereen make this more of a need.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we went BPA in the higher 1-2 rounds at a position that was lower on most of our lists.

And not address the CB issue early ? That would be a monumental mistake.

Gurely is a superior talent and thanks to a BS suspension for signing autographs and then his ACL, does not have that much tread off his tires.

He will be long gone before 32, BUT for some reason if he is there at 32, you can not pass him up.

I would also love to see the Pats grab his teammate, Conley later on, freaky fast a very good WR who didn't get to show it in college due to injuries (and the fact that Georgia had Gurley, Abd Chubb

I remember that draft where Pats got Dillon and then Wilfork AND Jackson were sitting there when the Patriot's pick came up........BB made the only choice that made any sense......it sure would have been a lot tougher had they not got Dillon....wonder what BB would have done....( my guess is trade down. )

I know, but they can't fill every hole and get great value at every pick every time. It's sometimes better to go BPA than to reach for a guy just to fill a deficiency.

Who's a better pick: Gurley or Gordon?

Gurley, if his knee checks out. That said, I'm pretty sure the team isn't drafting a RB in the first. Further, I don't think Gurley would fall to 32 either. Marcus Peters, please.

I tend to agree on the first round RB but the implications and mismatches of a big back who can catch and block cannot be ignored. Nickle on first down. Sweet. Run, run, run, play action 50 yard TD up the seam vs the safety biting on the fake to Gronk.

I'm convinced Peters isn't making it past the combination of Cincy and the Ratbirds. Both have the need and aren't afraid to roll the dice on character issues well beyond Peters.

Gurley would be a phenomenally awesome pick if he somehow made it to 32.

He plays like a young Marshawn Lynch, he would be perfect for the offense if his knee checks out.

Exactly. Morons like Felger et Al think it's rippable to draft Gurley at 32. Hell I think I may even pop up a spot or two just to grab him. If he is the next AP, or Lynch don't you HAVE to take him?

At some point in the next 5 years there will be a swing towards a power running game again because the LBs and safeties will be undersized vs a Lynch type. So if you are planning on the future as well as a a possible bell-cow once in a generation Pro Bowl back, you grab him.

All this is if he is as good as knowledgable people say, as I have not followed him super closely.

If there aren't any cb's that have a good value at #32 then it wouldn't be a mistake, it would be a mistake to reach on a guy and overspend in hopes of catching lightning in a bottle

Gurley.

Remember the last highly-regarded Wisconsin skill-position player to do well in the NFL?

*crickets chirp*

It was Al Toon, who retired in 1992. You can take your chance on the guy who's continuing the legacy of James White, Montee Ball, Ron Dayne, Tony Simmons, Anthony Davis, Chris Chambers, Brian Calhoun, Lee Evans, Michael Bennett, Brandon Williams, Travis Beckum, and Nick Toon. I'd rather not, though.

You can find good running backs almost anywhere in the draft. That said, if he really is the next Marshawn Lynch and he really is available at 32, go for it!

Then again, the last RB picked in the 1st round was Trent Richardson. He looked like a "can't miss" prospect. How'd that work out?

Every position can have first round busts and disappointments. Take a look at QBs and WRs.

id be okay with taking him in the 4th round.

that statement goes for any other runningback bb might be thinking of taking in rounds 1-3.

Hehe yea, the Browns completely wiffed on a few high 1st rounders.. Richardson was a disaster of a bust at the position he was picked in.

Belichick went RB with Maroney one year in the draft, but that was in the 20's.. I could see him going with Gurley if he's available at 32.. that would really help the offense having a stud RB to make play action more effective and to control the clock more.

Imagine Brady with a Lynch or Peterson quality back? It would be silly!
