Draft Priorities and Round 1 and 2 Priorities

Best player available regardless of position for every pick.

When looking at the roster, I'm not adverse to selecting a LB early.

In fact in the draft contest, I picked LB Bernardrick Mckinney.

With the loss of Wilfork, we could use him like a faster run stopper Brandon Spikes from a couple of years ago.

I became suspicious about a LB pick when BB brought in Rolando McClain, which I think was a favor for McClain because he shares Hightower's agent(I think?). But nevertheless, McClain could of been BB's stand-in mannequin since he shares a lot of similarities to McKinney

Who do you consider an ILB or an OLB? Hightower and Collins both fit the 4-2 very nicely. And yes, Mayo has had two unlucky years. I'm not prepared to right off his career just yet. I just think it's easier to fill the linebacker position than it is LG or #1 CB. Not that I'm averse to drafting one, I just don't think we should be reaching for one at #32.

Yeah, OK, I hope you are right actually.
I would say that the difference between "unlucky" and "made of glass" around here is entirely based on selector bias.

As far as linebackers go, this is an interesting athletic comparison:

Jerod Mayo

6'1", 242

40 - 4.54
10 yd - 1.51
VJ - 32"*
BJ - 9'6"
3cone - 7.31
SS - 4.29

*NFL Draft Scout says he had a 40" at his pro day

Jeff Luc, Cincinnati

6', 251

40 - 4.6
10 yd - 1.6
VJ - 34"
BJ - 8'10"
3cone - 7.30
SS - 4.56

Similar forty times and 3cones but Mayo has a much better 10 yard split and SS. But even so, I hadn't realised that Luc had put up those decent-good numbers at his pro day. I really like his film so this was a nice confirmation. Think of him as a Mayo/Spikes cross.

Video of that pro day, if you're interested:

Luc is seriously built like a tank. He would have been a tempting prospect for the old 3-4, but I worry that he's more Spikes than Mayo.

Thanks for that. He probably is, but the run still needs to be stopped. He's very good at forcing fumbles and gives the impression that he's both smart and a leader. As a day three pick I think he's worth consideration.

DRAFTEK has only one of the top corners available at 32 (Peters) and the next six being picked between 62 and 89, perfect for our 2nd pick, with a slight trade up or down.

Curiously, a LG candidate may be be a better value at 32, and a corner a better value at 64.

DJ Humphries, Cam Erving, or Nelson Agholor w our first pick then possibly carl davis, Tyler Lockett later
