I was hoping to get some help with planning a trip to see the opening Thursday night game. Does anyone have a recommendation on hotel rooms for Thursday night? I'm from out of state and don't really know the area that well.

Also, I'm a season ticket waitlist member. Since it is a Thursday night game do you guys think there will be tickets available on the ticketexchange?

Thanks!

The best place to stay, if they still have rooms left, is the Rennaissance (sp?) Inn right at Patriots Place. You can leave your car there for the game (a big plus) if you are staying overnight (it's an extra $50 charge, but you pay that at an adjoining parking lot anyway) and you can enjoy Patriots Place and the Hall without having to go anywhere. I booked a room the night before the Dolphins game last December to surprise my husband for his birthday (we are season ticket holders). It was beyond wonderful to wake up, have a leisurely breakfast and walk over to the game without having to worry about traffic, parking, etc. Not to mention we met friends for dinner the night before the game in Patriot's Place. I booked it through one of the discount sites (probably Expedia) and it wash't that expensive for the convenience we got. I think it was $199.00. Good luck and have fun!

Edit - yes I do think tickets will be available on ticket exchange. People always have last minute reasons they can't go. If you are feeling lucky, wait until a day or two before the game and there are usually plenty of tickets to be had.

If you stay at the Renaissance Hotel at Patriots Place, you will still have to pay for parking on game day. If you don't stay close, you're better off staying south of the Gillette as all of the highways north of the stadium will be a complete cluster flock during rush hour.

All true, but even though you pay at Renaissance, they guarantee you a space, and you are super close to the stadium.

Agreed. It's pricey, but very convenient.

Thanks Galeb and PatsDeb, but it looks like rooms are booked at the Renaissance Inn @ Patriots Place. Any other suggestions anyone? I was looking at the Red Roof Inn south of the stadium.

Someone else recomended the Red Roof Inn in Mansfield, but I have never stayed there. I think there is also a Sheraton on Route 1 in Walpole or Norwood, which would not be too far from the stadium either, but again, I have never stayed there. Good luck!

That hotel at gillete is very pricy. I would stay somewhere off of 495 to the south if possible...easy getting to stadium. (way i come from)

I stayed at the Red Roof Inn for the AFC Championship game, they also have a shuttle for a nominal fee to get you to and from game if you are not into tailgating. Not a at place but pretty cheap!

Can highly recommend the Hampton Inn on RT 1 in Norwood. Quick and easy drive to the stadium and not a far drive to downtown Boston.

If you stay at Patriot place, do not rent a car. Unless you are going to see other sites and highways are important to you (like you must add I95north and I93south as part of the same road to your collection) you can go to museums and stuff by cab, limo, or bus.
Why? People drive offensively here. No, that is not an insult. The US outside of New England drives defensively. No matter where you've been the average driver will seem nuts and driving yourself will be a nerve racking experience. (In other states a New Englander will wonder why other people don't just frickin drive already - are they all idiots?)

BTW, unless you want sites in Boston, like the Old North Church, avoid Boston. Traffic is a nightmare. Good restaurants and/or strip clubs and/or night clubs and/or whatever can be found in Providence, RI too.

And Providence, RI is closer than Boston.

There is a Holiday Inn Express on RT 1 about 15 minutes from the stadium. I have stayed there a few times and was happy with the experience.

There r plenty of okay places to stay along Rte 1. My suggestion, would be to stay at one of those and depending on when u get into town, visit Boston either via MTA Train or by car. Driving in/around Boston is no different from any other large city. Parking can be challenging so be prepared.
Note that as the game will b on a Thursday nite, Pats traffic will b merging with rush hour traffic so the closer u are that evening the better you'll b

Jersey and NYC have any state in NE beat. Try driving in FL. Even though they have great roads and weather, they consistently have the highest pedestrian mortality rates in the country.

As a native Floridian I can attest to the terrible drivers here, but a lot of them are transplants or tourist from the likes of NY, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and the ever so frustrating Canadians. Boston drivers didn't phase me at all. Only weird thing is sometimes no road lines, and all the parallel parking. We rarely do that here so my skills are utter trash.

I wonder why.

What makes Boston stand out isn't necessarily he drivers but the pedestrians! I firmly believe that 10% are color bl1nd when looking at a red red light, 5% can't read the DONT WALK signal and the other 85% don't give a sheet!. I say bring back DEATHRACE 2000!
