Didn't realize how much Brady is hated until

I was flyin' Vegas to Denver. I sat next to an elderly lady from NY who lives in Vegas in a retirement home. We chat for 2 hours. Yes, I chat with an 87 year old grandma for 2 hours. Kinda looks like Raymond's mom in Everybody Loves Raymond. lol She was very interesting. She was a wife of a WWII vet who later became a pilot. She lived in many countries - mostly Asian countries. She was educated lady who was polite and fun. She had ton of Vietnam stories. She knew about pretty much everything from politics to sports. We went on and on about politics. My wife is a doctor and she sat next to me. Her son was a doctor too. So even my wife chimed in. I enjoyed talking and listening to her story. It was interesting.

And then - I told her that I'm Patriots fan.

The hell broke loose.

She went on and on how much she hated Brady. I was curious and asked here why. She believes Brady is a

1. slimeball
2. sleezeball
3. bastard
4. morally unconscious
5. total loser

She believes Brady fathered many illegitimate children with many different women. She really believed that. She hates what he 'stands for'.

I didn't argue with her, I kept saying 'interesting'. First I assumed she was a NY fan. She mentioned the Yankees a lot, so I just thought she was a jets or giants fan. She then goes saying - she is a Broncos fan for life. Because of her cousins and family that live in the Denver area. She loves Peyton Manning for many reasons. According to her Peyton Manning is

1. good human being
2. caring man
3. doesn't go around father illegitimate children
4. great player
5. funny man

She loves what Peyton Manning 'stands' for.

She kept saying 'sorry about rant on Brady, but it's true. He is the worst human being in my recent memory'. And she goes on that everyone of her family - there must be 50+ of them because she has 7 kids and many great great grand kids, and cousins after cousins. All of them hate Brady and every time they gather watching football, they literally can't stand Brady.

Oh by the way, I've been living in the enemy territory for past 3 years. Colorado, Washington, and Wyoming. Brady is hated. Like really really hated. I watched SB with a bunch of my wife's colleagues. Brady is hated. Absolutely hated. It's unreal.

I don't know this lady but I'm pretty sure I don't like what SHE "stands for."

I'll bet the old lady hadn't heard about this. http://thebiglead.com/2014/09/18/peyton-manning-1996-tennessee-lawsuit-trainer-bare-butt-mooning/

Yet another example of the overall bias and hatred of the Patriots by everyone outside of New England.

Most people have never even heard of the sexual assault allegations against Manning.

But can you imagine if Brady was accused of shoving his johnson in a trainer's face? Not a day would go by without someone on espn (or the sports hub's afternoon show) ranting about it.

It's interesting that the woman wolverinejoe was talking to is a Broncos fans and also has the blinders on for Manning. Maybe she was a Colts fans previously but Manning's only been in Denver for three years. The team has won a lot of regular season games and Manning has set records, but when you factor in the Broncos playoff performance, his run there has to be viewed as somewhat disappointing. Remember, Manning was added to a team that Tebow guided to a playoff victory, as improbable as that run was. Denver was a very talented team on both sides of the ball and Manning was supposed to put them over the top. They won their division for three years in a row, but the postseason results are 2 home losses in the divisional round sandwiched around a blowout loss in the SB.

This woman's perception is probably also influenced by the way Brady and Manning are portrayed when they do the same thing. Last year, Manning was seen yelling at Julius Thomas following an incompletion. The commentary about that exchange was mostly about how Manning is so intense, such a perfectionist, and a leader. When Brady yells at a receiver after an incompletion, it's a sign of rift on the team or Brady being a bad teammate.

I just love how so many people were saying Brady was done after that 2-2 start. This wasn't just the media. This was every person who's been waiting for the day he declines. I think it's crazy how a 2-2 start caused that reaction. I mean that's not a horrible record. Then for Brady to come back and win the super bowl was just so awesome. And he did it with CLUTCH comebacks in both the Ravens game and the SB. It was also funny how people were going after Bill. I remember Mike Golic questioning if Bill's ability to find hidden talent had come to an end. An of course Butler makes that game winning interception. Lol. I love it

This lady has problems. I knew this without the Pats hate. A true Bronco fan wouldn't forget that Peyton made it a habit of bouncing them out of playoffs. And then when he joins them, he goes out of his way to troll them by showcasing one of the greatest offenses in NFL history only to get embarrassed that same season by the Seahawks.

I wonder if she also enjoys watching him get receivers killed. Never go over the middle when Peyton is your qb. If I had a nickel for every concussion he has passed out.....millionaire lol.

i would have just told her that all my friends and family and everyone i know hates peyton manning because he's a phony that has a losing record in the playoffs and superbowls. i've done it many times and not just with manning. i do the same with rivers all the time. just a little different narrative.

It doesn't surprise me any. If you were talking to a Brady fan, you would have heard how great Brady was and how Manning was the opposite. The fact the Manning played the Seahawks in the SB and got embarrassed, while Brady beat the Seahawks the next year in the SB and was MVP, probably made Manning fans hate Brady that much more. The more successful a team or player is, the more we look for flaws to base the hatred or dislike on. I know people who are Manning fans just because of his commercials. I know people who hate the Patriots and Brady and they don't even watch football.

I live in Denver, and it's amazing how people here can can justify paying for a stadium for a franchise that has basically entrusted the last 30 years to a narcissistic pos that was too good for certain cities coming out of college, and who later raised a young man who drags women around downtown by their hair. Beyond the petty opposing team insults, I can't stress that enough..... Elway 'built' a woman beater and now is entrusted with building a franchise. I would feel sorry for them all if I didn't have to put up with their compromised values.

Now compare:
Brady - Elway the player
B. Kraft - Elway the owner
J. Kraft - Elway Jr.
Manning, as pitiful as he is, really has nothing to do with the Broncos tradition, he's just a high priced whore and second tier QB.

Most fans here honestly don't even realize their franchise was punished more for the specific years in which they won their only super bowls than the pats were for 'filminginplainsightgate'. It's been swept under the rug. At a certain point, as many of you have found out, you stop trying to reason with ill logic and bad ethics.

Be honored that you are hated by terrible people.

I really like Manning. I will start hating him when he actually starts beating Tom.

There's really no reason to argue with these people. Their minds are made up and many sports fans are mentally handicapped to put it nicely. Not to mention the fact that Brady and BB both LOVE giving a big F U to these jackasses through their success. I honestly believe its part of what gets them up in the morning. Having all of America praise everyone of their on and off-the-field actions is the last thing they want. They'd probably get bored with that because, let's be honest, winning is far more fun when you get to shove it in the face of millions who are sickened by your success and constantly root against you.

I've seen 1-15 and 2-14 (twice) I saw them succeed to face the Bears on a national stage.
Hated is so much better than ignorable that I'll take it without question.
Oh being hated is the best. Would you the Patriot hate now is on the same level as those Raider teams back in the day?

Is it just me, but am I the only one who is seeing a bit of a thaw from the NFL masses toward the Pats. Every now and then I read some of the comments from PFT articles on the Pats. I have to say that as more and more (or less and less if you want to put it that way) came out on defllategate, I saw more and more support for the Pats from fans from other teams. Also more and more of the blind haters were being attacked for being such idiotic douches.

I think there is a point where a normal human being starts to see through the Pats hate fatigue and starts to realize that so much of it is merely biased propaganda. Then slowly a grudging respect starts to build, and instead of being a team to hate, the Pats become a team to respect. Yeah, the team you most want YOUR team to beat, but also the team that you measure how your own team is doing against.

I have a feeling that the real haters like Marshal and LT are going to run into more and more people who aren't going to buy their guff anymore and are going to have to change their positions or drop off the vine. IIRC, it was wither LT or Marshall who was doing some MAYOR ballwashing of the Pats after this superbowl.

I might not live to live long enough to see the Pats get their true justice, but my grandkids might. ;) The tide is turning.......isn't it?????

It's been forgotten too since it only got a slap on the wrist, but there were threads on Broncos message boards where fans were wringing their hands about how bad the Broncos were going to get hammered after they were caught taping the 49ers practice, particular in light of the precedent Goodell had set with the Pats.

Only after they got a slap on the wrist did they feel emboldened to climb back on their high horses and again heap disdain on the Pats for Spygate.

I spent last weekend at a trade show held at the Downtown Disney Hilton and the attendees were mostly of the southern part of our great nation. I proudly wore my Pats gear and got all kinds of positive acknowlegements. Hats off to the senior gentleman who proclaimed, "Sure not going to forget Number 21 for a long time!"

Nothing negative was uttered to me at all.

Go Patriots!

It is hard to say. The Raiders were not hated because "they cheated" but because they took advantage of gray areas. (The holy roller was legal at the time.) It would be like if every troll cited eligible/ ineligible.

That, and the players being thugs. Which was apparently true. (I've never seen even one Raider fan even attempt to defend Tatum as a nice guy.)

The real question is:

Who's more hated, Brady or Belichick?

My question is why the Patriot haters really hate?

Most of the nonsense I hear from them seems to be anything other than why they hate.

Some could be idiots just following the Hatriot bandwagon, trollers, people just do things without really thinking.

A few could be fans from divisional and playoff rivals - I do get that. I don't get the rest.

The best I can come up with is Belichick's personality and persona is easy for some to hate. Yet they would love to have him as their HC in most cases. As Lombardi once said: a team reflects the personality of the coach. The cheating stuff: I'm not buying it. The things brought up is not a game changer and other teams do cheat in bigger ways.

Something similar happened to me a month ago.

I started talking sports with this woman and things were fine until I mentioned that I am a Patriots fan. Well, she went off on a similar tirade to the woman the OP encountered. I sat there and nodded and added "that's interesting" in a few times until she was done.

Then, I rebutted each point she had brought up in a civil manner with the facts as we all know them here on Patsfans.

I don't think I changed her mind, but at least she did not seem quite so, shall I say, animated towards the end of our discussion.

To each his/her own, I suppose.

IMHO, it comes down to the fact that the Patriots win, and non-Patriots fans are simply jealous and/or sick of them constantly having success. All of the "cheating" or Brady is a "bad person" mantra is merely a way to make their disdain less pureile than the truth mandates.
