Didn't realize how much Brady is hated until

Wasn't the scuttlebutt at the time that Moynahan (who's older than Brady) was desperate for kids, and pulled the goalie, so to speak?

As recently as last year I've heard it referred to as being "Brad-ied", by a non-Pats fan.

Ex. in response to comment about a woman lying about being on birth control - "oh s###, you got Brad-ied?"

After politely listening to her, I would have then explained all of the attributes of Tom Brady that I admire

-hard work
-never a "can't miss' talent
-never talking down opponents
-good father
-good in the community
-admired teammate
-winning-focued
-not fighting for every dollar of salary
-loyal to team, city, teammates, community

Then I would have then explained all of the attributes of Peyton Manning that annoy me

-silver spoon in his mouth his whole life
-sexually assaulted a trainer at UT, bought his way out of it, lied about it in a book, bought his way out of THAT
-well-known for his MANY extramarital affairs in Indy, including with a TV news anchor, that were all "OK" with his wife who long-ago accepted the fact that he is a serial philanderer
-throws teammates under the bus
-stats whore
-until now has never left a cent on the table, demanding top dollar at every turn
People going on this anti Manning tirade is the same thing as the anti Brady people you hate. Yes people outside of New England hate Brady. But it's pretty much the same thing as people outside Manning teritory hating Manning. Yes, these people, like you, probably say "but I know this to be true". But so does to anti Brady people.

If you don't think that Brady and Bundchen have highly paid people who advise them on their public images, I have a bridge to sell you down here in Manhattan.
I have no idea about Bundchen, but I don't see reason to believe or assume Brady has a "highly paid image consultant." No interest here in owning a bridge in Manhattan unless it's dirt cheap, well traveled. and can legally accommodate toll booths. ;)

The sad truth is most sports fans are just overgrown children who don't handle jealousy very well. Jealous resentment from rival fans is a very small price to pay for the joys that come with being a fan of a team like the Patriots.
I mean, it's not like everyone adores and respects that loveable 2008 Detroit Lions team that went 0-16.

Who was a better, more popular "good guy" off the court during his playing days, Magic Johnson or Larry Bird? What about Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain? Terry Bradshaw or Roger Staubach? What about Bjorn Borg or Jimmy Connors? Oh that's right, no one gives a damn, because people's heads can only pack so information that they deem relevant. And a year after both Brady and Manning are both retired, no one will care a single bit any more about who they liked better or who had more commercials. The emotional "rooting for" and "rooting against" piece is out. I guarantee that as time goes on, more and more people will come around to acknowledging Manning was never on Brady's level.

I've had a couple people tell me Brady has "everything" when discussing why they don't like him. It's a very jealous, honest and stupid opinion. Most QB's have lots of money and beautiful wives yet they don't get the hate.

Then there are manning lovers who hate Brady because of the rivalry and how Brady has stood in Mannings way. For manning fans who don't like Brady this last super bowl was the worst. Not only did Brady end one of the biggest sports debates but he did it by beating the same team manning lost to last year.

I have noticed that a good amount of haters have been forced to acknowledge Brady's greatness after this years super bowl. And if Brady ever wins #5 many more people will reluctantly come along. But there will be haters who will always cling to spygate and 2 psi to discredit his career.

I was flyin' Vegas to Denver. I sat next to an elderly lady from NY who lives in vegas in a retirement home. We chat for 2 hours. Yes, i chat with an 87 year old grandma for 2 hours. kinda looks like Raymond's mom in everybody loves raymond. lol She was very interesting. She was a wife of a WWII vet who later became a pilot. She lived in many countries - mostly asian countries. She was educated lady who was polite and fun. she had ton of vietnam stories. she knew about pretty much everything from politics to sports. we went on and on about politics. My wife is a doctor and she sat next to me. Her son was a doctor too. so even my wife chimed in. I enjoyed talking and listening to her story. it was interesting.

and then - i told her that I'm patriots fan.

the hell broke loose.

She went on and on how much she hated Brady. I was curious and asked here why. She believes Brady is a

1. slimeball
2. sleezeball
3. bastard
4. morally unconscious
5. totally loser

She believes Brady fathered many illegitimate children with many different women. she really believed that. She hates what he 'stands for'.

i didn't argue with her, i kept saying 'interesting'. first i assumed she was a NY fan. she mentioned yankees alot, so i just thought she was jets or giants fan. she then goes saying - she is a Broncos fan for life. Because of her cousins and family live in denver area. She loves Peyton Manning for many reasons. According to her peyton manning is

1. good human being
2. caring man
3. doesn't go around father illegitimate children
4. great player
5. funny man

she loves what peyton manning 'stands' for.

she kept saying 'sorry about rant on brady, but it's true. he is the worst human being in my recent memory.'. and she goes on that everyone of her family - there must be 50+ of them because she has 7 kids and many great great grand kids, and cousins after cousins. All of them hates Brady and every time they gather watching football, they literally can't stand brady.

oh by the way, i've been living in the enemy territory for past 3 years. colorado, washington, and wyoming. Brady is hated. like really really hated. I watched SB with bunch of my wife's colleagues. Brady is hated. absolutely hated. it's unreal.

Simple. Losers hate winners.

Other fans hate success, period. The Pats, BB and Tom Brady are mostly loved in all the New England states except Conn. (Giants country) elsewhere they associate Tom Brady as a cheater along with BB. Rules benders. ITO Bob Kraft doesn't defend his team in these controversial situations. I know this because I wear my Patriots csp proudly everyday in Jets and Giants country and you would be surprised the remarks I hear.

People going on this anti Manning tirade is the same thing as the anti Brady people you hate.

Stating things known to be true is no "anti-Manning tirade" at all. Neither is asking people to google things like "Manning scandal Jamie Naughwright" or "Affairs Peyton Manning"

Correcting misperceptions that are verifiably untrue, like the tired old allegation that TB is a deadbeat dad, is no pro-Brady tirade either.

Well, that's pretty anecdotal. I travel the country pretty frequently. For every random kook or ill-informed chucklehead I've encountered, I've met 5-10 knowledgeable sports fans who respect and admire the Patriots accomplishments even though they are admittedly jealous of their success.
.
I've posted this before so forgive the repetition but it's appropriate. I was at the Pats-Eagles preseason opener in Philly in 2009 (kids and I dressed in Pats jerseys)when Julian E returned a punt for a TD. When I mentioned he was a college QB and had never returned punts before, the Eagles fan in front of me turned around and asked, " where do you find these guys?" Not hatred, more likely jealousy and respect for the way the team, Kraft, Belichick, Brady et al... run the organization and find the diamonds in the rough.. That's true of many down here..What they wouldn't give for ONE Lombardi trophy, let alone four.

I agree with most of this. I wish the OP would have mentioned the alleged sexual assault that was swept under the rug. All those qualities she said about Brady, that's really Manning. I mean who orchestrates their own keep away? That is just sick and absolutely disgusting. Peyton Manning is so fake. He knows how to work people with his public persona but I bet he truly is a disgusting horrible human being deep down inside.

Also, anyone who would just start talking sh*t about the favorite sports team of someone they just met is pretty socially backward if you ask me.

This is exactly what I was thinking lol... if you just met someone and were having a civil conversation, then found out they were a Pats fan and start ****ting all over the team and their iconic star... You're basically a sociopath lol

A couple of points:

1. This is essentially the "end game" of the debate. Those who have always hated Brady and always argued that he wasn't the best are now degraded into the embarrassing "well, fine, but I don't have to like him! he's bad!" type of stuff. I really think they actually know how pathetic they sound. First, it was that he's a system quarterback, then it was he couldn't put up Manning stats, then he couldn't win without a defense, then he couldn't win because of Spygate, etc. etc. etc. Brady has cleared the last obstacle, and rather than just owning up and saying "wow, I was wrong" they just reveal their true feelings all along. I say feelings because this just confirms that the haters are going off of pure emotion and claiming to use reason for why they discredit Brady. This just proves it was all a big sham; the Emperor's clothes are gone. No matter what, even had Brady thrown for 10 TDs a game, these people would still find a way to spin him negatively.

2. For whatever reason, Brady has dealt with lots of haters. I think this is a good thing because it drives him each day. Although he is generally regarded as the best quarterback of his generation, the media has still never elevated him to the universally beloved status like Manning and Rodgers. For Brady, it's a good thing; he is always scratching and clawing to climb up the ladder. I think Rodgers and Manning each have more than one ring if they were disrespected and doubted as much as Brady.

Stories like this remind me why I don't tell strangers I am a Patriots fan. You never know how much of a lunatic someone is until you discuss sports, religion, or politics with them LOL.

You didn't need to defend Brady to her but you should have told her about the time Peyton Manning sexually assaulted his trainer and then blasted her in a book as having a potty mouth.

...and cause her to stroke out?
No great loss but your flight coulda been diverted.

You should have also told her about the time Peyton Manning took an overwhelming favorite into the playoffs only to personally underwhelm, leading to a head-scratching early one-and-done exit.

And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.

The real question is:

Who's more hated, Brady or Belichick?
I've seen 1-15 and 2-14 (twice) I saw them succeed to face the Bears on a national stage.
Hated is so much better than ignorable that I'll take it without question.

So you sit there and converse with this woman for two hours yet you don't set her straight on Brady? You could've done it in a kind manner without beating her up over it. She might have learned something from you. To call her misguided vitriol "interesting" and leave it at that was kind of pathetic.

it was near the end of the conversation. and i was laughing my *** off inside. I was in a total shock actually because she didn't mention anything about 'cheating'. that was a surprise. it was all about 'brady is a dirty sleazeball, peyton manning is a good man who is a model citizen'.

I didn't even bother trying to defend Brady. i kinda figured she already made up her mind to blindly hate on a guy she really doesn't even know.

how could anybody hate a person so passionately? i find that very interesting.
