I've lived outside New England for more than 20 years now and I can safely say that outside of Patriots Nation, a very large number, if not a majority, of people just don't like the Patriots in general and Brady and Belichick in particular.

For most, this is the result of jealousy of the Patriots' accomplishments.

For some, it's a preference for the image of Manning over Brady, usually because of a preference for a "Middle America" image over the more bi-coastal, Jet Set image of Brady.

For others, as is apparently the case with the woman on the plane, it becomes something more than jealousy and morphs into what can only politely be described as suggesting that she has "issues." When I read stuff like this, I can understand why celebrities like Brady travel with bodyguards.

Years ago TMZ ran a pic of Manning with singer Kenny Chesney and suggested that PM was gay. I remember posting it on a Colts forum and was bombarded by all of the info out there about how his many heterosexual conquests, which were common knowledge in Indy. He even made public appearances with many of them.

I agree with you on the futility of spending "two hours" speaking with this person. When confronted with irrationality in a stranger whether on a plane or elsewhere, I usually disengage rather than try to convince them.
However, there is nothing in the OP's comments that suggests that he was speaking with a rational human being, so trying to change her mind would have been a waste of breath. I think it was probably time to put in the ear-buds and ignore her. Tom Brady pays image consultants a lot of money to enhance or protect his image. I'll leave that job to them.

He was talking to a fellow traveler about football players. He said she was very bright and engaging. There is nothing wrong with correcting the misinformed if done tactfully. If she doesn't accept it then that's the time to laugh it off and end the chat. It doesn't have to turn into an argument.

It's long been suggested that the Manning boys aren't the slack-jawed, wide-eyed innocents we think they are. Take for example these emails I received from an Indianapolis party girl (who knew?!) soon after Tiger's numerous transgressions were being made public.

Tiger wishes peyton manning's mistresses would come out and tell their stories... his day is coming.. and i bet he is thinking OHHH **** right at this moment...

I'm just saying.. peytons dirt will come out some day as well.. just like tiger.. people knew about it.. just whispered and it didnt get out till now..

living in indianapolis and in that crowd... there are whispers all around.. im just surprised it hasnt gotten out yet.. now dont think i am a scorned girl or anything like that.. i could care less.. i mostly blame the women that throw themselves at the athletes.. i had heard of his trysts.. but didnt want to believe it.. wanted to believe what we are shown on tv... then was utterly letdown when i had the unfortunate experience of having to turn the offer down and now knowing all the whispers are true...

Now, I cant speak for what he does on vacations or trips to vegas.. bc i only know of what has happened in indianapolis.. i guess call peyton more low key.. as far as what I know... but I am sure I dont know even half of it.. Im well aware of the whole girls being flown in and all that goes with that.. but that is not what i am talking about with peyton.. his is more "normal' as far as i know.. i met him through a friend on the team.. we all were hanging out together.. but what is different bw he and tiger is that to the best of my knowledge.. peyton and ashley have an "open" marriage.. soo she has her fun too...

Guy delivers a rental crib to us & wife mentions Brady.
Guy "Don't like him!"
Wife (puzzled) "Why?"
Guy "He wins too much"

You can imagine how much worse the H8 is a decade later with the continued ass kickings the Patriots have delivered to other fans' teams.
The jealousy has driven 31 teams' fans (well maybe only 30

) insane.

i didn't argue with her, i kept saying 'interesting'. first i assumed she was a NY fan. she mentioned yankees alot, so i just thought she was jets or giants fan. she then goes saying - she is a Broncos fan for life. Because of her cousins and family live in denver area. She loves Peyton Manning for many reasons. According to her peyton manning is

1. good human being
2. caring man
3. doesn't go around father illegitimate children
4. great player
5. funny man

she loves what peyton manning 'stands' for.

she kept saying 'sorry about rant on brady, but it's true. he is the worst human being in my recent memory.'. and she goes on that everyone of her family - there must be 50+ of them because she has 7 kids and many great great grand kids, and cousins after cousins. All of them hates Brady and every time they gather watching football, they literally can't stand brady.

oh by the way, i've been living in the enemy territory for past 3 years. colorado, washington, and wyoming. Brady is hated. like really really hated. I watched SB with bunch of my wife's colleagues. Brady is hated. absolutely hated. it's unreal.

Well, that's pretty anecdotal. I travel the country pretty frequently. For every random kook or ill-informed chucklehead I've encountered, I've met 5-10 knowledgeable sports fans who respect and admire the Patriots accomplishments even though they are admittedly jealous of their success.
Also, anyone who would just start talking sh*t about the favorite sports team of someone they just met is pretty socially backward if you ask me.

My extensive travels consistently have the NEP and TFB NOT liked much. Yes, knowledgeable football fans aren't the problem but they're few.

A positive note. I'm wearing a Pats jersey and a guy comes up to me, a Colts fan, and smiling said Hey you guys cheated us with deflated footballs. I laughed at him and he did too nicely saying congratulations on the SB win. So some "criticism" is just normal ball-busting. Never ran into a tin foil hat old lady type.

With regard to your first comment. I'll admit I wasn't there, but I have met several "bright and engaging" people who are either total lunatics or completely irrational on one subject or another. If they fall in either of the latter categories, there's no point in engaging with them. But, once again, I wasn't there. My own tendency would be to tune them out as soon as they started using the words the OP attributes to her regarding TB.

With regard to your second comment, you're kidding right? If you don't think that Brady and Bundchen have highly paid people who advise them on their public images, I have a bridge to sell you down here in Manhattan.
