"With the 32'd Pick of the First Round, the New England Patriots select..."

Sounds about right but I will take it a bit further. The Patriots will select someone we did not expect and who is a bit of a disappointment to some...but then turns out great...like Jamie Collins.

Even better there will be some high-maintenance, big, prima-donna WR who all the draftnics love and instead of taking him, the Patriots trade down and select some Jamie Collins type.

Which draftniks are these. Most of us in this forum have barely discussed a first round WR. I'm provably the most open to the idea and even I think it unlikely. As for Jamie Collins, we draft old are all onboard - we're all trying to find the next one.

Every year there is sure to be a few guys with Big WR obsessions. This year less than others (less need), but it is always there (so sort of size obsession).

But the may thrust of my post is that the Patriots will draft someone unexpected, us draft-centric will moan, but he will turn out to be great.

He's referring, I think, to big media like Mel Kiper etc.

However I'm on that bandwagon, not necessary at #32 but we need a top talent at WR badly IMO unless they really like Dobson, Tyms or Boyce. Other than them we have no depth nor upside.

Nobody. The value is flat from 25-65 so I think they'll trade back unless there's a run on a position such as corner that cleans out all of the the second round value players. Given the rise of the WR position I think this will keep some of the better CB prospects around for the second round.

Shaq thompson starting to slide and may be available at 32. I could see bb jumping all over that.

Collins also sliding fast as well. Another player I could see bb jumping all over at 32.

They have looked at some strong safety types, I could see them grab a SS/LB hybrid.

What he offers are pretty close to perfect, with Collins and Hightower. Even on 3. down they could stay in 4-3 or is it 4-2-5? Or even 4-1-6 since both Collins and Thompson could be SS on a down or 2. Starting to beleave Thompson is the missing piece for BB and if so, then he will go for him.
A LB trio of Collins, Hightower and Thompson would not only be superb, but really hard to copy in a copy league ;)

Thompson is certainly a useful chess piece, I just think there are better more useful prospects.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if the Patriots traded up to 29 or 30 and picked DT Michael Bennett? I have to assume that the Seahawks are lusting after this guy. It would be so great.

I think the pats are going to move down.......move down to the middle of round 2 and add a pick in the middle of round 3

In the middle of round 2, there will be a CB that falls to them.....at the end of round 2, take an OG (marpet or tre jackson)....middle of round 3, marcus hardison

at the end of round 3, RB dave johnson, CB steve nelson, top of round 4, OLB/DE trey flowers

Yeah, I could see them trading back a bit, if someone was eager enough to take #32 off our hands for a good return. In every mock draft I've scanned, there are always players in the 35-45 range that I would gladly take at #32. It's really just a question of how much we can get back in return, and whether there's a team in the 35-45 range who is anxious enough to make it worthwhile.

Personally, I don't see that MUST HAVE guy that some team will be desperate to trade up for, such as the stunning talents of Kyle Boller or Cordarrelle Patterson or Mark Ingram, which induce teams to cough up all those extra draft picks. But then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and a lot of GMs in the NFL have really bad eyesight.

Going by the mocks at draft scout and NFL.COM my pick is Byron Jones CB UCONN.I still have Cameron Erving and Lael Collins and some others ahead of him but those prospects are gone in pretty much all of them by #32. He's the top player I have left in almost all of them.

Both #32 and #33 are going to get attention from teams wanting to get their guy before someone Jumps ahead of them. The question will be whether the Patriots guy is still available or whether the teams wanting to move up are willing to pay enough to get them. It would be hard to pass on another Codarelle Patterson trade up.

I would also expect 101 to be in play, possibly for a third next year, especially if the team is going to suck.

Yes. Good call. Send 101 to Cleveland for their 3rd rounder next year. Amazing to see that franchise spiraling out of control.

AJ Cann and then trade up in the second to grab Byron Jones

I'd rather AJ Cann + Marcus Peters (who I think will ultimately slip down) than Jones. But wouldn't be bothered with either CB.

Another possibility I keep coming back to is trading #64 and #96 to move up around #50 if a prospect they really like is still around at that point. E.g... If Shaq Thompson, Jay Ajayi, T.J. Clemming's, Marcus Peters etc.... Are still there then consider moving up to grab them or someone else they really like. They would still have #97 and #101 at the end of the third and to of the fourth and could come away with a couple of really good players before using those two picks.

Marcus Peters, eh? Do you think that BB would go for a guy like that in the second? Maybe. According to Peters, he has turned his life around, but who knows. Also he had a slowish 40 of 4.53. He is fun to watch on tape; he is very aggressive and passionate, but you have to think that if the WR gets past his jam at the line of scrimmage, he is gone....who knows; he might be perfect for covering the taller WRs and TEs.

I'd prefer Marcus Hardison in round 3

I wouldn't take Bennett at 32 either, but at 64 if he's still there?

How about this surprise:
"With the 32nd and final pick in the first round, the 4-time defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots select… from Louisiana State University…Defensive End…Danielle Hunter."
