Pats drafting WR early, according to NESN

Baaa waaaa haaa haaa.

Here's the "confirmation" for the report in the article:

The Patriots are expected to select a wide receiver early in the 2015 NFL draft because “their presence at pro days that featured receiver prospects was clearly noticed by their counterparts around the league,” CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Friday. Belichick was in attendance at “several” of these pro days, according to La Canfora, and has been very “hands-on” in his approach. Belichick has been spotted scouting Auburn, Georgia, Central Florida and Maryland‘s pro days, and each school has an appealing receiver prospect. Auburn’s Sammie Coates, Georgia’s Chris Conley and Central Florida’s Breshad Perriman are big, speedy wideouts, while Maryland’s Stefon Diggs is smaller but more versatile.

Half of Belichick's counterparts in the NFL can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Like I'm really going to go with their in-depth "investigations" of Belichick's pro-day visits. It could be that he just wanted to enjoy some sunny beach weather with his family. I think they have a lot of sunny beaches in Florida and the SEC states and, lord knows, it would be hard to blame anyone living in New England right now for flying south....

Dorsett or Devin Smith could be good in the 2nd, but I don't know what WR they would really be able to justify taking in the 1st.
A wide receiver who could double as a long snapper.

DGB in the first and Conley in the third, all set at WR! I'm sure that's what will happen.

Somebody will bite on DGB before pick 32, despite his problems. He's made for the Ravens. That being said... he's very intriguing.

They should channel their inner George Costanza and go against their instinct, picking the guy who is the opposite of what they thinking they are getting. Opposite Bill.

Oh by the way, can you all finally admit, if this is true, that Dobson is more likely a bust than a NASA secret waiting to be revealed when least suspected.

I can see them trading up for a QB in the first round then ;)

Breaking news: BB trades entire draft plus next year's entire draft to select Marcus Mariota

I'd rather stick with vets. Plus our wide out core isn't that bad. Who knows maybe Dobson can show something.

I think they could add one with one of the three picks they have end of third top of fourth.

Seems like bb finds the wr athletes that theoretically should work, but except for branch and givens, none can seem to master the playbook or get on the same page as brady.

No it was more about the Kool Aid drinkers who are 1000% sure that Dobson's injury was the only possible explanation for his demotion while highly overrating his rookie season.

For the most part, those people didn't exist.

Thank Gawd BB doesn't stop drafting at a position because some guys didn't work out. You have to keep with your judgment when you pick at the bottom every year - you'll have misses.

The only thing I'm sure of is that Mel Kiper doesn't know who BB will pick. Isn't he zero for forever with that prediction?

"Special teamer" Devin McCourty is doing well, I hear.

The push to sign Stevie Johnson tells me that the team is interested in upgrading at WR. Maybe it's a Coates-level guy or maybe they hold off a bit and take someone a little later like Conley. I would be happy to go OG/DT with the first two rounds (either order), RB and WR (Conley) in the third and LB or OG again in the fourth. Would like a CB but not sure the value will be there by 32. If it is then push my whole board down a peg with CB at the top, lol.

Just a reminder:

As is so often the case, the Patriots have the ammunition to trade up this season. Just using 96 or 101 (or both) to move up could make a pretty big difference, and the team would still have 97 because of the compensatory awards, and 131 at the bottom of the fourth round.

I'm intrigued by the kid from Ohio State (Smith). I know some are projecting a late first, but I'm thinking that a second would surely get it done.

His ability to go up and make the catch in traffic and break neck speed made him an excellent target. He's also an Urban Meyer kid, and we all know BB's relationship there.

This could work if we looked for that "sweet spot" in the 2nd round by trading down/up with our first and thirds, as @RayClay brought up.

Agreed, Smith would be a good grab and seems like he's made for the Pats. A mid-to-late 2nd pick would be a steal, but seems like the WR value could be awfully good this year, it could happen.

Pretty sure BB doesn't even know who he's picking on draft day. I'm taking this article with a grain of salt.

Coates has frying pan hands. I hope to god we don't take him early. I'd love to relive my childhood with a guy named Coates to be catching passes for the Pats, but I think it's rather unrealistic. Hands that bad are tough to correct, especially if your burning an early pick with many, seemingly, more important needs.

OG, CB, RB/WR/DT/LB

DT should probably be on its own as third need. LB maybe as 4A given injuries. I highly doubt we go after a WR with any of our first 3 picks. A pick traded up counts against those picks...

PS. I hope the Sox just lose the game at this point...ffs

The idea of drafting any wr is exciting but our track record is extremely concerning. My #1 fear is Devin Smith. I was instantly put off by his blocking. He could be a massive bust but there are quite a few reasons why I could see us taking him.

-played for Urban Meyer
-extremely raw
-very fast
-plays st
-strong hands
-not his team's goto guy much like many guys we have taken in the past
-said to have a good personality
