Ridley has three offers on the table

No, we don't have a spot. We have Gray starting our first game and Gaffney backing him up. We also have Gray and Gaffney as the starter and backup for 2016.

I strongly disagree with those here who think that we don't have a need at running back.

I'm not sure I understand, do you mean this Gaffney? http://www.patriots.com/team/players/roster/tyler-gaffney

A sixth round pick with no snaps in the NFL yet. I don't really know, but it would seem premature to presume he's a back up this year, much less still on the roster in 2016.

Too early to count on Gaffney.
Yes it is too early to count out Gaffney AND Lewis AND Gray AND whichever UDFA's we sign.

We need a running back to play opposite Blount in 2015 and to start in 2016. Gaffney might make the team; he might even be a future starter.

WSH--Alfred Morris

Alfred Morris isn't very good, he's a much better fantasy football player than real football player. I'd rather have Ridley, at least prior to the ACL tear.

Okay... so here's the plan:

-Ridley signs a FA agreement with the Jets
-The Jets sit him on the bench
-The Jets cut him in Week Six, to make roster space for an extra Punter
-The Pats pick him up on waivers

Net-net: The Pats earn another 6th Round Compensatory selection in 2016 for losing him to the Jets, without really losing him to the Jets

Good plan but I like this one a tad better:

-Ridley signs with the Jets.
-The Jets play him against the Pats.
-Ridley fumbles, the ball bounces in the air and Jamie Collins runs it back for a TD and the win.
-The Jets miss the playoffs on the last tiebreaker.

Net-net: The Pats win another SB and the Jets fans go wild.

How do you miss the playoffs on the last tie-breaker when you are 5-11?

Huh? He has 3 teams with offers on the table.

None of which seem to be attractive enough to get Ridley to belly up to the bar and put his John Hancock on a contract.

Are three teams bidding his price up? Or down?

Does it matter? You said he is closer to out of the league than having teams competing for him. Teams are in fact competing for him. Your guess at how much they will pay him really doesn't change that.

Their best chance would be to have the Commish change the rules for them, like he did when he had the SB in Jersey.

Personally, if I were in his shoes, I would want to try to get in the best situation which would actually allow me to showcase my skills, in an attempt to get back to the 4.4 and 4.3 YPC seasons of 2012 and 2013, so that I could get a "real" contract next spring in free agency.

That's what I'd be looking for, although as noted, none of the situations are really all that great unless that team's lead back becomes injured.

Your statement obviously makes a lot of sense in terms of guaranteed money, although I'm wondering if the offers are similar enough to where I'd rather be looking at the bigger picture.

I can definitely see the rationale in that, and I'd totally agree if the market for even proven RBs was better than it is. A one-year prove it deal definitely wouldn't surprise me, just in hopes that he can hit FA again next year without any question marks relating to health. But since even established RBs aren't commanding that much these days, the upside to that approach is also kinda limited.

That's a pretty bold statement about a guy who has the following production:

1) 3/3 in seasons of over 1,000 yards, with an average of 1,321 per year

2) 28 touchdowns in that three year span--average of 9.33 per year

3) A career rushing YPC of 4.5 yards

4) has played in 48/48 possible games, having never missed one yet

Either way, WSH obviously has their bellcow RB, so I highly doubt they were envisioning Ridley in any larger of a role than he'd see in MIA or the NYJ, so that was my point.

Agree. Part of me would like to see the Pats pick Todd Gurley if he is there in RD1 and a DT,CB or G w/o a 1st Rd grade is not.

Why not, if the value is there at RB and not elsewhere?

OTOH, I am comfortable with the guys presently on the "committee." Especially if we play the Colts every week. Oh we don't? Damn.
