Boston Globe declares the Sox still own Boston

I don't care about stories like this ... I'm a homer fan and in the Patriots - Red Sox - Bruins - Celtics and Revolution I'm doing well ... doing very well for my local teams. Good ownership and management and team structure for all of them.

The Red sox pink hats however are running strong..but they rarley watch the games on TVs

Yeah, but pink hats aren't real fans. They like going to games, but more for social aspect of it. Half the pink hats I see when I go to games are so busy talking, guzzling beers, and eating hotdogs that I don't even think they realize a game is going on.

And very few pink hats are die hard. Toucher and Rich make fun of them every year by geting Adolfo to go to games and ask them basic Red Sox questions that they cannot answer.

I went to a game last year...50% of people around me had no clue the game was going on...

Boston Globe declares they are still relevant.

The last Bankofamericasox game I attended was a playoff game several years ago vs. Tampa. People all around me were chatting, reading the newspaper and fiddling with their smartphones. A PLAYOFF game. I've seen more attentive crowds at the airport. o_O

To think if the Pats get bad that people in this area will stop being fans is crazy.
That's not what I said. Again, if/when the Patriots lose again, we will see if this is a football town. Honestly, I could care less. I'm not buying that Boston is no longer a baseball town when Patriots are down. Just my opinion.

They can't.

The Pats #2 preseason game being more watched than a Red Sox playoff game is the one punch knockout.
When did that happen? A #2 pre-season football game is in August and the baseball playoffs are in October!

Why will Boston always be a baseball town when numbers prove otherwise? More people watch Pats #2 preseason game in the boston area then a red sox playoff game...

People that say it's always a baseball town need to post some facts for it to be true

Ok........not sure how I would post facts for my assumption regarding the future? Like I noted earlier, it's a football site and I didn't think my post would receive rave reviews.

You said Boston will always be a baseball town...how is that the future? Based on the past and present...this isn't the case. And like other have stated baseball is only losing interest while the NFL is getting stronger every year.

If/when pats start losing..they should still be #1 like they are now. If baseball shortens it's games and cuts some games out..it MAY make a return to #1

The thing is the Red Sox are falling to #3 in this area. If the Pats ever fall from #1 (which I don't see for a very long time even after Brady and Belichick are gone), there is no guarantee that the Red Sox will be #1.

Baseball itself is a declining sport. Young people just don't like it the way they used to. Red Sox fans are dying off faster than they are gaining new ones.

The Pats could be sub .500 every year and be more popular than the Red Sox in 5-10 years.

The Red Sox have 1 million Twitter followers vs the Patriots 1.31 million ...
just 1 piece of info favoring Patriots.

Red Sox have 4.92 million Facebook likes
Patriots have 6.02 million Facebook likes

Again 1 more piece of info favoring the Patriots.

MLB has 6.06 million Facebook likes
NFL has 11.99 million Facebook likes

The NFL in general more popular than MLB.

This is just a lazy, written article which is no surprise coming from the Globe. The only thing they got right in that crap was claiming Brady the king of New England.

I'm gonna laugh when Brady walks away with his 6th SB ring, and Garropollo takes over and becomes the franchise QB for the next 10+ years. What will be the excuse then?

Question, do you currently live in the Boston/New England area?

Not trying to be a dink, just asking...

If you notice, stories like this always come from the Globe ...Always.

There's certain teams in certain cities and regions that you know are the pulse of that region. Like the Yankees to NYC, Packers to Wisconsin, Cardinals to STL, hockey teams to Canadian cities etc. I always felt like anything related to the Red Sox whether it be the Globe or EEI, or NESN ALWAYS streched that with the Red Sox.

Are the Red Sox popular here? Absolutely, and at one point it was a phenomenon, but its not like that anymore. And it was never a RS town only. Boston is a SPORTS town. Orr's Bruins teams and Birds Celtics teams were just as popular as any RS teams, same can be said for the current Pats teams.

You see the rivalry the Bruins have with Montreal? That's real! Same with all the Celtics rivalries with the Lakers, Pistons and currently the heat. And the Pats with the Jets, Colts and Ravens. Sox rivalry with the Yanks feels more fabricated than anything. The hate for the Yankees isn't even really there anymore, but they try and sell it like it is. Just like things like Truck day. Its just not a big deal anymore ..

First, I am a football fan and love my Patriots above all other Boston teams. Having said that, Boston will always be a baseball town. The true test is when the Patriots begin losing (God forbid). Its' easy to proclaim #1 status when your winning.
You speak as if the two sports are equal. Baseball is sinking into anachronism because it is slow, dull, and tradition-bound. Football is much more dynamic and youth oriented. As others here have pointed out, this transcends relative success on the field.

I live in the bay area so the SF Giants have become as close as you can get to a dynasty three world series in 5 years yet a regular season 49er game vs the Hawks bested the whole world series games the Giants played in 2014 in ratings. I think it's similar in Boston football has become so popular

I turned on opening day to see if I could recover the magic I experienced as a kid, it was epic fail as Ortiz was at the plate and after all of his shenanigans and gestures I switched to something on the Golf Channel.

Baseball has become something I switch to during commercials or read about in the morning..

Anecdotally, seldom see a kid with a RS jersey, but in football season there are seas of kids wearing Pats Jerseys. particularly #12...

To the life after Brady argument....if Jimmy G pans out on the field, he'll be more marketable than Bieber/whatever direction combined. :D
