Boston Globe declares the Sox still own Boston

I started following the Patriots since the snow game before their first Super Bowl win -- over 15 years.

And yet, the Patriots were the #4 team on the web sites of the Globe and Herald.

CBS and FOX showed Giants games ahead of Patriots whenever possible.

NFL in Massachusetts was like the MLS is today.

It wasn't until Brady's 3rd Super Bowl that MA media started listing the Patriots first.

It took time for Massachusetts to accept that Patriots reached the final game 4 of 9 years (97-05) back then, just like the NE Revolution reached the finals about 4 times.

I was barely into my teens when the Patriots began winning their first three Super Bowls 01' - 05'. I had no idea that football was still that obscure in Massachusetts LOL

Very petty, does any other franchise do this? I bet you they were rooting for the Seahawks. Glad Pats have always been classy to the Sox. But it would be funny if we declined to have the champs honored at Fenway. Tell them that the fans aren't interested according to the Globe.

I still watch, but not nearly as often. When I was young I was watching them every game. When you add it up, you could spend 10% of your waking hours for the year watching baseball. That's just overkill. The game is too long and there are too many games.

Football is the perfect product - best game and just the right amount of it. Until Goodell screws it up and implements the 44 game season with games 7 days a week morning, noon and night.

Agreed. Since getting married and having kids, I have given up baseball, NBA basketball, college basketball, and college football, but the agreement is I can have free reign on Sundays during the NFL season (although I typically just watch the Pats and try to sneak in the night games). I am very happy the way it works out. I get way more excitement from anticipating one game a week with all the build up and feuds than watching the baseball and basketball players loaf around while playing for nothing.

If saying things made them true I'd be having a threeway with my wife and her sister tonight.
Which reminds me of these embarrassing shirts
th

They've won one playoff series in 17 years. I think it's time to put this nickname to bed.

So sick of baseball already and it just started...the pink hats are everywhere...

I'm still a baseball/football guy. Baseball something to look at when there isn't a football game on. I've been jonesin since the Superbowl.

I'd like to see the leagues mesh and reschedule to avoid overlapping. Could be done very easily but someone would have to budge. Start the NFL after the World Series and play the Superbowl at the end of March. Too freaken easy and probably worth more in advertising dollars.

If every baseball game mattered..i think i may watch...but when you can throw our 20 or so games...no thanks....wayyyy too many games and too long

Baseball games meant more, even with 156 or 162 game schedules, when there weren't any playoffs.

I would gladly trade away the 3 World Series Championships over the past 11 years just for one more chance at the final minute of Super Bowl 42 without any guarantees of success. Without hesitation.

God I can't stand baseball or the Red Sox

First, I am a football fan and love my Patriots above all other Boston teams. Having said that, Boston will always be a baseball town. The true test is when the Patriots begin losing (God forbid). Its' easy to proclaim #1 status when your winning. I understand I'll probably be crucified for this post, after all it's a football site and the Red Sox are routinely criticized.

More people would watch Gronk pitch than anyone on the sox.

But, there's something to be said about Fenway park. It's just an awesome place to be.

Why will Boston always be a baseball town when numbers prove otherwise? More people watch Pats #2 preseason game in the boston area then a red sox playoff game...

People that say it's always a baseball town need to post some facts for it to be true

Do we really have to do this, though? I follow the Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox very passionately. They don't interfere with each other that much. Just love your Boston sports teams. You don't have to put one down to promote the other

While I was going to tell you this is crazy talk I am not so sure. I would have to think about this.

Seeing a World Series win (especially after the Yankees series) and then two more to greatly contribute to Title Town was amazing and I am not a Sox fan for the most part. Something that will be never forgotten.

However, the way Shula and Mercury Morris and the whole world acted (before the game and after) for that matter when we had our guts ripped out by a circus catch and subsequently lost, hurt bad. I know we are on a pats board and its not cool to say the Sox wins were awesome but I will say that 19-0 stick it in Shula's (and the world's) face may be sweeter than the actual 3 WS wins.

Yes, they were that obnoxious.

Not as embarrassing as the Texans' Letterman jackets. :p

They can't.

The Pats #2 preseason game being more watched than a Red Sox playoff game is the one punch knockout.

This isn't remotely true. Sorry. But kids just don't watch baseball like they used to. Most find it boring. Sure more kids will be Red Sox fans than kids will be MLB fans in other parts of the country, but baseball in general is a declining sport and Boston is not immune to that. In fact, I think you can find a lot of Red Sox first fans in the over 40-50 something set, but you will hard pressed to find anything but Patriots first fans in the 20-30 something and under set. The Red Sox die hards are aging out.

The NFL is king everywhere. Sunday and Monday Night Football gets better ratings in Massachusetts than Red Sox games even when the Patriots aren't playing. To think if the Pats get bad that people in this area will stop being fans is crazy.

The Red sox pink hats however are running strong..but they rarley watch the games on TVs

For me it's not Patriots vs Red Sox. It's football vs baseball. I barely watch the Sox, and I would never watch a game between two random MLB teams that I didn't care about.

But I'll definitely watch a Thursday night game been the 2-6 Jaguars and the 3-5 Titans.

To me football is a much more entertaining game than those 3.5 hour borefest baseball games.

And I'll still feel the same if the Pats ever do go back to sucking.
