Blount Suspended for Season Opener

I think our buddy MG must live in a bubble or something. Uh, that evil weed that's stupid to use and possess and worthy of banning is used and possessed by a large percentage of NFL players....AND the league knows it. Stupid league should be banned.

Blount ... Blunt .... an 'o' makes all the difference in 16 games or 15.

Some reason he wasn't suspended while in Pitt?

Was watching Dan Patrick the other day. In an interview with a former Duke/NBA player (forgot name) had stated that numerous NBA players smoked pot "before" games. A little perspective of NFL players smoking pot after hours (not to mention, slightly more physically beat).

Some Comments on the Comments

1. Based on the crime and past history here, I actually think Goodell got this one about right. One in a row,l the bar has been officially raised.

2. Lets not forget that L'vonte Bell was the driver of the car and the guy who was in the possession of the weed. HE was the guy charged with the DUI. One would expect for THAT reason, he'll be getting a 2-4 game hit from Roger within a few days. But then again...

3. Can someone clear this up for me. From what I understand, the entire "he walked out on his team" thing was essentially Blount walking off the field at the end of game within seconds of it being over in frustration because he wasn't being used. Am I wrong ot did he walk off several minutes before the game ended and the complaint is closer to the truth?

4. The fact that medical marijuana is Federally illegal, yet beer and whiskey are fine is the kind of twisted logic that kill brain cells

5. I've read where the NFL has the lowest THC settings for their weed test of any athletic organization. I think its something like 5 times lower, than the Olympics and most people would easily test positive if they were just in a room where weed was being smoken. Something needs to be done to at least make the test levels more realistic, if not just recognize "marijauana prohibition" is essentially over.

I have no idea what policy Blount is being punished under (unless there's a separate, unpublished rulebook for the Pats), but it's not punishment under the new NFL recreational drug policy that went into effect last year:

Marijuana discipline:
The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended.

He must be getting suspended for the arrest, not for the weeeeee-da.

As long as Gray plays well in the preseason, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the 'starter' anyway. His stupid tweet has to be forgiven after sitting the Super Bowl.

Yeah the NBA kinda just sweeps it under the rug. I mean you are to tell me that this guy doesn't smoke weed? That's an insult to my intelligence in the wise words of Cris Carter.

^ Who is that dude?

It's supposedly been his tardiness to practice which stemmed from a "faulty" alarm clock which caused his placement in Belichick's doghouse.

After that, came the tweet and stupid comment about not understanding what he did wrong.

I thought goodie was judge, jury and executioner.

Barring a failed drug test (which Blount never had), how else can you punish him until he has at least seen his day in court to prove the actual charges took place?

The decision to suspend players who have yet to be charged come from serious violations such as domestic violence (suspected rape = Roethlisberger), some of which are multiple (again = Roethlisberger).

Look at Marshawn Lynch and his DUI case. He had played through 2 seasons without seeing punishment by continuously postponing his hearing/dates.

Ultimately, you're right that Goodell makes his own rules up as he goes along though.

My god it took 23 replies to finally get a "Blunt" joke. This board is slipping . . .

Most here felt that N.England had managed to address the situation with Blount by immediately making him deal with the charges once signed, and that he wouldn't be suspended.

Since Blount never failed a drug test, and even if he did wouldn't be eligible for suspension, we're left to assume that Goodell took matters into his own hands after Blount had dealt with it in court last fall/winter.

He's getting suspended for being a Patriot.

That's about what it comes down to, since Le'Veon Bell will likely be suspended for 2 games.

It would have been hard for the league to try and justify a suspension for Bell, but nothing for Blount, so he got a game as well.

At the end of the day, who really cares? Bell missing a couple of games is much bigger than Blount missing ONE game, especially if they meet up in the season opener as I hope.

His tweet was something like it's crazy how fast people turn their back on you or something like that. He didn't handle the situation like Revis, that's for sure.
