Here is why you shouldn't get mad if BB trades down

I don't care about trading down

Hoever, I am still angry about Ras-I Dowling, Darius Butler, Ron Brace, Tyrone Wheatley, Jermaine Cunningham, Aaron Dobson, Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson, and Adrian Klemm

Don't forget Hart Lee Dykes, Eugene Chung, the bad Chris Canty, and Laurence Maroney.

I'm kind of happy about David Givens, Deion Branch, Tom Brady, Jerod Mayo, Chandler Jones, Donta Hightower, Nate Solder, Shane Vereen, Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez (in football terms,) Julian Edelman... etc. etc.. etc.

I am not grinding my gears too much that we failed to find a way to bring in Akili Smith, Tim Couch, Brady Quinn, Trent Richardson... you get the idea.

The 9 picks trade up argument is bs... If we want to go early 20s we have to give 4 or 5 picks to grab ONE player. I trust in bill and he likes volume so i expect to trade down and have more picks or stay put

none of those guys were 2nd rounders.....none of them were drafted by BB.....

heh....Didn't realize that the trade up for a coveted player was such a big deal for some here. With 9 picks BB could trade up into the 20's to nab someone they really like. Yes, Wilfork fell to the Pats but as pointed out in other threads BB traded UP about 20% of the time to grab a player he really wanted.

And, who, as a rule, has already fallen below where they were expected to go.

We have a great roster but we can upgrade even more.

All the first three are interchangeable (BPA)
* Italic and Und players are to compete for places in the roster

  • QB - 3 Brady, Garoppolo, Gilbert
  • RB - 7 Bolden, James White, Gray, Blount, Gaffney, Lewis, Cadet - PICK #06 + PICK #07.B
  • C - 1 Stork
  • G - 4 Wendell, Kline, Devey, Barker - PICK #02 + PICK #04.B
  • OT - 5 Vollmer, Solder, Cannon, Cameron Fleming, Hauptmann
  • WR - 10 Amendola, Slater, Edelman, Lafell, Boyce, Dobson, Krause, Gibson, Dorsey, Tyms - PICK #07.A
  • TE - 5 Rob Gronkowski, Hoomanawanui, Wright, Develin, Chandler
  • DE - 5 Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Moore, Buchanan, Bequette - PICK #04.a
  • DT - 6 Chris Jones, Easley, Antonio Johnson, Vellano, Siliga, Branch - PICK #03.a
  • LB - 12 Collins, Hightower, Mayo, Gordon, Darius Fleming, Rufus Johnson, Martin, Skinner, Sheard, Morris, Chris White, Freeny -PICK #03.b
  • CB - 9 Ryan, Arrington, Butler, Dennard, Green, Swanson, Chekwa, Fletcher, McClain - PICK #01
  • S - 5 McCourty,Tavon Wilson, Ebner, Harmon, Chung
  • P - 1 Allen
  • K - 1 Gostkowski
  • LS - 1 Ott
9 is the minimum IMO.

There is a 2 - 3 year window with Brady at the helm. After 10 years of trying to find a CB and striking out, everyone just saw what happens when the Pats have a real CB on the roster. Stockpiling lower round CBs is too big a gamble.

If there is a CB in this draft worth trading up for then now is the time pull the trigger.

Umm . . . if the Pats had GRONK instead of Rob Gronkowski, they win the second Super Bowl against the Giants, even with that stockpile of lower round DBs.

If, but, maybe, could have, would have, should have.

In case you missed it, Brady took the offense down late in the 4th and NE had the lead late in both SB42 & 46. The NE Pass defense choked big time in both Super Bowl losses. Eli Manning moved the Giants 70 yards in only 5 plays in SB46. So fast that Bradshaw had to fall down shy of the goal line and not score Too Soon.

Swiss cheese pass defensed don't win Championships.

And the hero of the Super Bowl we won was a Division II undrafted rookie CB, after a fairly quick drive got the Seahawks down the field, starting with our stud LB getting beat on the first play for a long gain.

Our stud corners weren't the difference on that final drive. Though obviously they made it a lot easier getting there.

I could see a trade down..as well as a big trade up

But if we trade down...get ready for the end of the world here on the forum

Bill Belichick will draft a QB in the first round and send this board howling.

I just made that up. Internet.

Nonsense!

======================
Let's consider what our first 3 picks could bring. In all cases, we would still have 101, 130 and the later picks. 101 and 130 should be able to meet two of our needs.

32 + 96 would bring us up to 26, giving us 26 + 64.

32 + 64 would bring us up to 20, giving us 20 + 96.

32 + 64 + 96 would bring us up to 17, giving us 17 for our three picks.
====================
So, moving into the 20's is very possible. If you want to get into the "early 20's", we would trade 32, 64 and get a pick back.

Hehe, we really have had quite a few terrible 2nd round picks.. but they've been a lot better lately and we've also hit some home runs in the 2nd

One thing to note is that it seems the return for trading down isn't what it once was... Seemed like teams weren't getting much for moving down the board last year. Could be similar this year.

Of course, the other side to that coin is that the team trading up isn't giving up much at all to do so. BB may see that trend and move up to get a better talent if they fall within range, knowing he may not have to give up more than a 4th or something to do it.

But you are forgetting the two most important factors that most armchair GMs consider during the draft:

1. Are thereany of the mainstream, Kiper/McShay/Mayock players available, particularly an outside wide receiver or one-trick pass rusher?

2. How much emotional satisfaction will I gain in the next two minutes based on their draft decision?

yeah, it's all a crapshoot.........the only one that really made me cringe is having 3 chances at connor barwin and drafting chung, butler, and brace instead.......it was so obvious

Just realized that I will miss the entire NFL draft because I will be in France of all places.
Does this get me banned from Patsfans?

Yes. Only question is whether it starts now or when you leave. We'll let you know when a decision is finalized.

So you claim he actually sometimes might almost know kind of what he is doing, sorta?

You realize that conflicts with many posters who know how to draft real good and stuff, right? :)

The board may meltdown if there are not enough people posting complaints about each pick.
It is a tradition, and apparently good luck.
