NFL to Hire Sarah Thomas as First Female Official

Studies indicate that men see better than women at any real distance. Studies indicate that men also are better at spacial viewing.

So, yes, actually, in the context of seeing and calling a game live, while on the field, the physical differences between men and women probably DO mean that men are generally more suited.

Link? Studies show that women handle pressure better than men too so do we give all high pressure jobs to women?

Studies also show that women handle multi-tasking better than men. Should we give women all jobs that require multitasking?

1.) If you're going to have the conversation, leave your straw men at home. I did not say that we should be giving all the jobs to men. I used the very words you chose, which were "more suited".

2.) Here's one example:

Where the men shone was in detecting quick-changing details from afar, particularly by better tracking the thinner, faster-flashing bars within a bank of blinking lights...

...Noting that men in the study showed "significantly greater sensitivity for fine detail and for rapidly moving stimuli...

3.) The studies on multi-tasking are actually split on the issue.

4.) The studies on the handling of stress indicate that the sexes respond to it differently, not that there's a clear cut "better".

Multitasking has shown to decrease grey matter usage,,

http://www.forbes.com/sites/ilyapozin/2015/01/07/theres-no-such-thing-as-multitasking/

Multitasking physically alters the brain’s structure. New research from the University of Sussex shows that people who multitask using multiple media devices simultaneously have lower grey-matter density in a particular region of the brain than those who stick to using one device occasionally.

In fact, multitasking as you know it doesn't even exist...

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-power-prime/201103/technology-myth-multitasking

Multitasking involves engaging in two tasks simultaneously. But here's the catch. It's only possible if two conditions are met: 1) at least one of the tasks is so well learned as to be automatic, meaning no focus or thought is necessary to engage in the task (e.g., walking or eating) and 2) they involve different types of brain processing. For example, you can read effectively while listening to classical music because reading comprehension and processing instrumental music engage different parts of the brain. However, your ability to retain information while reading and listening to music with lyrics declines significantly because both tasks activate the language center of the brain.

In fact, according to study, multitasking leads to INEFFICIENCY...

Sure,

Link two

Don't bother calling me out because I've got your number and you don't have a clue about mine.

Also, if the second link is meant to show my youth, you've got it way off. I was in combat long before you were born and my children have long left the nest so that chauvinist drivel you're laying down doesn't cut it with me.

I really hope some of you don't have daughters.

So unlike the links I've provided, you've got nothing and instead, try and play high school logic... got it.

I provided a quote. The link somehow got deleted, buy you could easily have tracked it down via the quote. It literally takes nothing more than a cut and paste into a search engine.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/...en-see-differently-science-health-vision-sex/

You provided nothing (including no links) but personal shots, at the beginning. That's not surprising, given the topic and your immediate willingness to toss out the straw man.

Follow up, on Multitasking:

We do not find any evidence for gender differences in the ability to multitask. Besides, the share of switchers is exactly the same for men and women and the average number of switches is higher for men. Thus, the results contradict the claims of Fisher (1999): if men think so much more linearly than women, why don’t they insist more on a sequential schedule? Moreover, why is it that women do not adapt better to multitasking than men when forced to alternate? In sum, the view that women are better at multitasking is not supported by our findings.

So, again, leave your straw men at home.

I'm all for equality, as long as that is what it really is. If she sucks, I expect her to get abuse like every other ****ty ref in the league. People only get pissed off when the PC brigade tear up Twitter calling any criticism misogyny or homophobia.

Let the girl succeed or fail on her own merits.

"The research shows that in rats exposed to repeated episodes of stress, females respond better than males because of the protective effect of estrogen." Thanks. I'll have to remember that the next time I'm on a quest to eradicate rats. I'll try to check their gender first. Are female rats the ones wearing little pink bows?

Joker and Deus already debunked your multi-tasking canard so further comment is moot.

Just don't call my 800 line, please.

You were in World War I?!

Oh man, are we back to talking about rats again?

so that chauvinist drivel you're laying down doesn't cut it with me.
Your real name isn't Alan Alda by any chance ...

I really hope some of you don't have daughters.
Yeah, strong father figures are so passe these days.

What happens when she gets leveled during a play or gets in the way during a pick?

She'll get slammed to the ground just like most of the guys that are referees.. Ed Hoch is the only one that could withstand a big hit, that guys enormous and could just as easily strap on some pads, go out there and play middle linebacker haha

For all the chauvanistic idiots out there, this broad would make you swallow every chicklet in your grill for running your mouth.

hehe while true for the most part, shes an outlier.. The average women is nowhere near her level of strength or skill, and when matched against a man who has also dedicated himself to beating the piss out of someone, she would have every single bone in her body shattered to a million pieces

How tough or multitask capable the average woman is, to me, not a valid argument for this topic. Obviously the top physically(strength) capable, let's say, 1% will be a male statistic. Making the connection, however, between that and refereeing an NFL game just doesn't sufficiently add up to me. It's an argument that just cannot fly in today's society even if one is absolutely certain of its pragmatism.
IMHO the only practically applicable discussion is society's different standards of conduct, worth, sensibility in regards to gender, and how introducing the female gender into a bastion of extreme testosterone will change that bastion.

... It's an argument that just cannot fly in today's society even if one is absolutely certain of its pragmatism...

If your assertion is true, then 100% of this country needs to wake up to the obvious fix such an obvious societal problem, stop caving to those who make such an assertion true, and get us back to a position of sanity.

Crudely put :) but true.
Deeply entrenched ideologues love the outlier (I find that most especially true of die hard liberals -- though not exclusively their domain). It makes for great sloganeering and feel good statements. It doesn't make for thoughtful discussion.
I avoid these conversations with those who use the outlier. Conversations with them almost certainly means that if you mention a nearly universal truth of gender, you will get back "Oh I know of many, just so many who prove that's not right". Ultimately talking with them is an exercise in emotion.

Yes is the logical and thoughtful response to your post.
That obviously ain't gonna happen so accept what is coming is the pragmatic answer.

I'm all for thoughtfulness but it just ain't gonna happen.

(EDIT; not 100% but a certain and large majority. IMHO this can only be cured by teaching the evolutionary sciences to every high schooler -- something both the left and right would stop in its tracks)

I'm fine with a female ref. The only thing I don't want is a woman doing Patriots games play-by-play. It just wouldn't be right hearing a woman's voice shouting "And he's NAILED at the scrimmage line!"

Unless of course her voice sounds like a guy.....

Anyone would be a preference over Scott Zolak.

Actually it's not about pissing off liberals, it's about pissing off fathers who have daughters that want them to believe they can acheive their goals, no matter what some tired old fat, drunk ***hole says they can't.
