OT: Mike Reiss' espn blog

I know he lost control of it a few years ago, but what the crap happened to it recently? It looks like ****e.

I don't see him staying at ESPN for long at this rate.

I agree. I can't visit his blog because of all the crap that tries to load. rather than a nice, clean, informative look, it's burdened with video, ads, polls, and all sorts of stuff. Whatever he has to say I need to find elsewhere, because I won't stay on that page while it tries to load all that stuff.

Mike Reiss leaving the Mickey Mouse network makes me feel... um.... how do i describe it? :)

It's the entire ESPN site. It's been re-done. Not sure if it's an April Fool's joke or not. Probably what they want.

Amazon tried the April Fools Crap, did a lousy job.. hope that is all that is wrong with Reiss ESPN site..

I think you guys are just trying to find reasons to pile on, the site looks fine.

I think the new version looks pretty good. Except for the ads between every article

Oh wow. They made it completely useless. Not only does it completely marginalize Mike's content and destroy what's left of his personal brand vis-a-via the blog, but it's horrid UX as well. When I go to the blog home page I get something that has (nominally) NE-related content, but as soon as I click on an entry, the sidebar changes (as far as I can tell) to a generic NFL feed.

I actually don't mind the new look (using it on mobile), but the ads between every article are pretty annoying. I don't need to see "10 Things I Didn't Know You Could Do On a Cruise Ship" between two Pats articles... But oh well, such is the internet these days. You would think a media giant like ESPN could afford to run their site with minimal ads. Guess not.

Still the same blog content as before, just a new style sheet for it (and the rest of the site, too). And if you are having trouble with ads (at least on a computer) try downloading an ad blocker to get rid of them. I have one and I don't see any ads when browsing his blog.

And here's a page on their redesign.

Does feel kind of F'ed up to unveil a totally new look on April Fools Day...

It appears to be a complete site revamp, that's extended to the whole of ESPN, and man does it suck. It pretty much made my iPhone give up in disgust. I couldn't get any scores off there last night that way.

Really, they seem to be run by idiots, but this is kind of a common thing amongst websites at large media conglomerates. They have a web staff, and said staff feels compelled to 'improve' the experience to justifiy their existence. The fact that it usually does exactly the opposite seems to elude them.

Heh. A small addendum. I just went to ESPNBoston and noticed that adblock blocked -42- ads the second it loaded. Well, **** them, that's one site that I'm not turning ad block off for.

Yeah, not liking any of ESPN's redesign.

But I really am steamed at what they did to the city/team blogs. (I assume ESPN New York, ESPN Chicago, etc. suffered the same fate).

The blogs seem to have been recast as "there's really only a single, generic NFL blog feed, but when you click on ESPN Boston/Patriots we will show you the tagged-Patriots posts in that generic feed". And then they make it so that when you click on an item the sidebar showing available posts changes from the tagged-Patriots list to the completely generic list.

Bah!

His blog site now looks like ****. It just lost a visitor. I'll just look to his twitter feed and ignore the ESPN abomination.

That's a website that I'm never visiting again. I just went and checked ESPN.com out of morbid curiosity and my work computer froze.

His blog site is:

http://www.mikereiss.net/

The ESPNBoston site is not his blog site. He lost control of the ESPN Boston one over a year ago.
