Sign the Beast LX: MLB Rolando McClain in for a visit.

Aikman and Buck also tried to make Cole Beasly out to be Julian Edelman.

Please help me understand the difference between mentioning someone's weight loss and how that relates to player comparision?

Personally I think BB brought him in to find out whether he is as big a douchebag loser as it seems.
I would assume the answer is yes.

Or Bb sees value in adding McClain to his LB corp with Hightower and Mayo coming back from injuries.

For all we know BB offered a contract and he is gonna continue any visits he has scheduled and then decide what his best option is. Gotta think he'd prefer to go to a team that can guarantee him a starting spot.

I can't see a downside to bringing him in on a vet minimum deal (or close to it). He can play when his head is right. Plus both Mayo and Hightower are not exactly locks to start the season.

Everything about McClain other than his physical abilities is totally the opposite of what BB wants.
Again, I think it was confirmation that he is not a Patriot type player, and I'd bet a lot BB concluded his guess was right.

I wonder if BB brings in certain players knowing that their visit here in a reasonable % of cases may make a GM somewhere panic and quickly spend more cap $ on the guy so the Pats gain a slight advantage.
Probably not.

The Patriot's defense is already reeling from the loss of three starters plus two valuable
reserves. In addition, Hightower, Siliga, Chandler Jones, and Mayo are recovering from
injuries. I'd like to see a couple more additions like a decent defensive tackle and linebacker to
cover our butts. It is a distinct possibility that the Patriots trade or cut Mayo if he refuses to
restructure.

Mayo if he refuses to restructure.

0% chance Bill Jr refuses to restructure. It probably would have happened already if he was medically cleared.

Not only that, but we play the NFC East this year and the Cowboys are still trying to keep him.

Even if he returns to Dallas, it may drive the price up, as you say, plus BB got to open up the cranium of an opposing player.

It should also be noted that McClain had some concussion issues in back to back postseason games to end the season.

He initially became concussed and couldn't return, then the next week he ended up starting again and received a second consecutive head injury.

Q. Mike, I would love to see the team pull the trigger on Rolando McClain. In fact, with Akeem Ayers and Jonathan Casillas gone, and Jerod Mayo and Dont'a Hightower coming off major injuries, I hope they don't stop there. McClain took that mysterious year off but he ended up a very productive player last year and he seems like the kind of four-down player the Pats desperately need to add depth. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Thoughts? -- Gregg (Scottsdale, Arizona)

A. [Mike Reiss] Gregg, if McClain is motivated to play and the price is right, I agree. But I also don't have enough information to know if those two things are in alignment.

No contract..aka pats just looking over all their options.

I can't stand him so would be fine if he goes elsewhere

I think McClain could possibly be a good insurance policy for Mayo, but with a lot of baggage and probably too high of an asking price, I doubt he signs with us.

That doesn't sound like it's in the spirit of the rules. I can't believe BB does that. That's strike #6 (or 7? I've lost count). BB should be kicked outta the league imo.

Speaking to a free agent about a contract while other teams are also interested in him... Probably tampering. Belicheat strikes again!

Oh lord this is the guy that literally said he was afraid he'd pull an Aaron Hernandez? The Pats cannot sign this guy, not after Kraft himself had to go testify at a murder trial.

I figured that I'd include it in the laundry list of his past mistakes and questionable choices, even though it's purely speculative and there is no concrete evidence whatsoever that currently links him to this.

The authorities did rule it as arson, although they haven't made any arrests yet and are still working through the investigation. The last report was about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm really not meaning to drag his name through the mud any more than he's already done himself, but since we're discussing him, it is worth noting.

That said, we've seen plenty of reclamation projects and I do believe that everyone deserves another chances. It just seems as though trouble follows McClain wherever he goes, and that could be cause for concern. It's certainly worth kicking the tires on, and I imagine Belichick would take a chance at the right price. What that price is would be anyone's guess, of course.

I think it's funny how so many people have double standards when it comes to NFL players with troubles. Don't get me wrong, I think he would be a great singing at the right price. Im the kind of person that believes in second chances (for the most part). I also believe a persons environment has a lot to do with a persons character and personalty. We all know that there is no better locker room in the NFL to bring the best out in a player, and thats why I'm for the signing. What I find funny is how people can sometime be so quick to shut certain players down, and other times fully back players with even greater off field issues. Take for instance, Colt Lyerla. There has been several times on here where I tried to make a case for the team to sign him, and almost EVERYONE grilled me. I mean like seriously, how can everyone be so high on a player with as many off field issues as McClain, and be so quick to shoot down other players with petty offenses in comparison. I mean if you're going from a talent standpoint, they're very similar in ability.

Not trying to rant, but yeah
