BB gets free rent in the brain of the other 31 coaches/GM.. perhaps "BB envy" is a more appropo term or diagnosis..

Meanwhile in the inner bowels of Gillette, Ernie Adams and his crack team of nerds are pouring over the rule book to see what else they can exploit..

Love how the Ravens are still crying over the ineligible receiver thing and tweeting about how it's illegal now. It's not like the Colts were confused by it or anything. It's no different than when the Dolphins broke out the wildcat in week 3 of the 2008 season and ran for 216 yards against us. It was new, innovative, and we weren't ready for it. But by the time we saw them in week 12, there was enough film and time to adjust and we held them to 66 yards rushing.

It wasn't really that complicated and Pagano and the Colts figured it out in a week. It was an innovative wrinkle but nothing more, and a lot has been made about very little because Harbaugh flaps his arms around like a maniac. Good teams figure things out. Bad teams cry about how unfair it is.

In a salary cap era, the one area you can gain a huge advantage with no cost restriction is coaching, and we're lucky to have the best. It shows up in big ways obviously, but also in the small, like BB coaching Butler to drive on the ball on that formation. Why bother? There were lots of people wondering if Butler would even be active for the Super Bowl. Yet he's getting practice reps to prep for a game he might not even play in.

It's also the mental toughness he instills in the team. I always think of that 49ers game where we fell behind 31-3 and came back to tie it. Nobody gave up, and even though we lost that game, it was an example of the competitive fire and never giving up. It's what led to that comeback in the Super Bowl. And even after that ridiculous catch by Kearse, when we were all hanging our heads and choking back tears, the defense continued to fight it out when all seemed lost. Hightower made that brilliant tackle. Butler, who felt responsible for that catch, didn't complain about the injustice of it or get too down. He got back on the field and made the play. That's a lot to do with him as a person, but a huge part goes to the mental toughness implemented every day by BB.

He's the best, and I'd go so far as to say ever. What he's done, especially in the salary cap era, is unmatched.

I probably would've activated Jonas Gray instead of Butler:eek:

It's almost surreal to think that, based on three plays the Patriots ran against the Ravens in January, the league changed the rules in March. It's even harder to believe when you consider high school teams run these plays. It was never an issue before in the NFL and no one complained when the Lions or Bengals ran similar plays this year, but when New England used it in a playoff game, something had to change.

Is it only because the Pats did it or because the Ravens complained. Lately, the league seems to be seriously doing anything the Ravens desire.

I really don't think Belichick cares about the rule change. These formations would have very little value going forward. It provided them with one chance to catch an opponent off-guard in a big game. It was like Daniel LaRusso unveiling the crane technique on John Lawrence with the karate tournament on the line. It confused him, and he paid for it with a kick to the face.

As a matter of fact, I bet Belichick gets a smug satisfaction knowing that his creativity has caused such an uproar.

Some how, I think Belichick will unveil a new legal but odd formation the next time they play the Ravens.

He should just keep doing it over and over, and make the competition committee look silly. Either they ignore it and are blatantly inconsistent, or they chase every thing that he does and look petty and moronic.

Of course, Freeman has to go and ruin the article by saying he thinks there is something to Deflategate other than high school chemistry.

When I see BB I think of what it must have been like to see Lombardi in action. Or Landry. Mostly Lombardi though. Why others can't see that is beyond me. He, along with Brady are living legends. He is the best coach in NFL history due to the salary cap, as you pointed out. Sad part is, in 20-30 years, there will be push to have some trophy renamed for him. Probably. Too bad these things can't happen while the person is here and vibrant.

I really don't think Belichick cares about the rule change.

I believe he does care about the rule change a little. He mentioned how this will affect how special teams can line up in punt formation.

The 31 other coaches: we changed the rules! Mean old Bill can't use his fancy formation on us anymore!

Bill: You guys ruined a special teams formation by doing this.

Do you think any other coach even had the special teams consequences cross their minds?

This to me is another example of why BB is the best. Always thinking.

I think he is saving this up for the first game. Just wait to see our guys on the opponents first punt, pointing out to the refs all their gunners who are wearing the wrong numbers. the opposing team will go nuts as they march backwards. LOL.

Wouldnt it be great if that first game was against ........... the Rat-birds!!! :)

I'm hoping he saves it until the first real game, rather than an exhibition.

If the Ravens are not scheduled, perhaps he should save it. :) OK, maybe taking the high road and not saving it is best with his only comment about it being, "Ask Harbaugh."

Does Ernie Adams even exist? I think he's more of an idea, maybe he's BB's alto ego kinda like that pharoe that went back and forth with Yugi in Yugioh.
