I think you are seriously undervaluing Gostkowski's value to the team as a whole. Having to go 80 yards for va TD every time you received a kick off makes life very tough for opposing offenses.
Gostkowski is one of the best kickers there is and a huge part of their field position game, keeping him n had to be a priority, and the tag is simply a placeholder until they get the real deal done. It had no erect on The Revis situation because he wasn't re-signing with Patriots anyways.
Points allowed will tell the story next year
What are you taking about? Gostkowski has not signed an extension, and we made him the highest paid K in the NFL with the franchise tag. When is the last time you saw a player made the highest paid player at his position with the use of the franchise tag. It was a waste they should have extended him, clearly they're willing to pay him.1.BB knew that would not have money to signRevis.
2. McCourty price range was in the Tag range
3. Gostkowski number will be his extension number, not the tag number.
Nobody is saying not to keep Gostkowski but we made him the highest paid kicker in the NFL so why did they need to use the franchise tag on him? The franchise tag is generally used when you can't come to terms I can't fathom a reason why Gostkowski wouldn't willingly sign a contract that paid him nearly a half a million more than any other kicker.Exactly. Also, I don't wanna be in a position on my couch where I don't trust my kicker, it must be terrible, imagine Belichick on the sidelines.
He trusts Gostkowski, we trust, because he is a reliable kicker and a top 3 in his position. Having a kicker you don't trust must completely change the game plan and situational football, for worse.

It's either the average of the top paid or 120% of their prior seasons salary. Gostkowski received 120% of his prior year. Which makes him the highest paid kicker by nearly $500K. You don't need to get all mad just cause you don't know what you're talking about.(1) Isn't the franchise tag an average of the salaries of the top few guys at the position ( whatever that number may be).... In which case it makes complete sense to pay arguably the best kicker in the league a salary calculated as the average of the 3-5 highest players at the position ; (2) which answers your question it's never happened that a franchise player is the highest paid at his position and (3) I don't log in in and follow often but based on a quick review you are one of the biggest tools going.
And time of possession. If our offense can't get on the field that is also very important.
I'm not a big fan of TOP as an indicator. Too many variables.
The same is true for the total yardage stats.
The game has been and will always be about one number. Points.

I disagree. You can talk about stats being misleading all you want and Id agree to some extent.. But you're not gonna convince me that TOP isn't a big deal, because that's just ridiculous.
With Revis and Browner both gone it really makes McCourty the "QB" of the secondary... So it's great to see him getting things going early with Tom. Shows real leadership which I have grown to appreciate from him. The fact that Harmon has joined too speaks volumes about his work ethic... He could be a gem yet.
People could look at me like I'm crazy, but if it works out, a starting CB trio of Fletcher-Butler-Arrington and McCourty-Harmon could be a real solid unit. It's not going to be top 10, I don't think, but it could be middle-of-the-pack.

#3 = biggest tools going.. Look at you with your internet balls, you must be a real badass in real life, regular Aaron Hernandez. Listen if you want to talk about tools I think someone who runs there mouth on the Internet likely wins for biggest.
