WR in the 2015 draft

I like Titus David out of central Michigan if only because the last guy to come out from there was a guy named Antonio Brown. If you haven't heard of him he's an okay WR

- Nelson Agholor: 4.42 40 and 1.53 10-split.

Agholor is also a great punt returner and very good in blocking for the running game. However he's not a good route runner. I see him as more of a developmental player and he'll go too high to justify taking him as a special teams stud who can work into the lineup.

Just went through Deon Long's film and found some lengthy articles detailing his background back to HS.. Yep, he's a Belichick player.

@nepd_loyko

Long is a WR from Maryland. I haven't watched him so can't comment.

Did any of you catch NFLN's Game Changers? With WRs: Kevin White, Jamison Crowder, Devon Funchess and Tyler Lockett?

Have to say as a know nothing (don't pay attention to college ball) draft scrub, I was utterly, utterly impressed with Kevin [White].

That's why he has a good chance to be first WR taken in the draft unless Oakland wants to go for the safer (i.e. higher floor) option in Amari Cooper.

I seen that too...

I actually came out really impressed by Lockett.

For the late seventh round pick:

Dres Anderson (son of Flipper)
6'1" 187 Utah

great speed, will also go over the middle. His father put one of the greatest MNF performances of all time back in his day.

It's notable that the hole most of us see in the WR core -- the proverbial "downfield threat" with speed and length -- seems to correspond to the type of WR the Pats have been visiting with. IMO receiver is a dark horse possibility at #32. Not my choice by any means, but there are a bunch of prospects in the late 1st-2nd: Strong, Green-Beckham, Coates, Smith, Perriman.

Personally, I like a group that should be realistic options in the mid-draft pick cluster: Kenny Bell, Chris Conley, Darren Waller.

I dont think we talk or thinking enough about the rule chanceing toward WR/CB. In the SB, the WR Patriots had biggest problems with was a rookie. Add in the succes rookie WRs had in general. I think even BB have to chance his view on WRs. We have seen a clear difference in size the last years, first Dobson then Lafell and others. So its clearly a option and if Patriots goes with DGB then I trust them in that regard.

Patriots could also easily end up with a situation where a big time WR was the best value. Im not so sure BB can trade down as he wants.

Can you offer a name of who you think will be top value? A lot of the big WRs being touted for that point in the draft are fabulous athletic specimens with questionable receiving skills -- sloppy route runners, body catchers, lots of dropped passes. (DGB is an exception with serious skills, but I have no clue how to value him.)

You have question marks with ALL comeing out. OBJ: Lacks elite top-end speed to separate vertically, Inconsistent making contested grabs and has some concentration drops. He did ok right?
There are so many things to consider and luck is a part also really. What I think makes BB ignore WRs are more about the second contract. He wont pay 7-8 or 10 mill to a WR, unless its a Randy Moss kind of talent. But that can be sayed about RBs aswell.

Devin Smith has a legitimate downfield skill set. Outstanding at tracking the deep ball.

Just want to reiterate because it's been a while but my two favourite WRs are Tre McBride and DeAndre Smelter. McBride just makes outstanding catches, great hands, great body control. He also had one of the best 10yd splits at the combine. And I think I prefer Smelter to almost any WR that the Pats are in a position to draft. Great blocker, excellent hands, excellent size and clearly a quality character guy and quick learner. I just think Smelter is a fantastic fit for our roster. Devon Smith probably comes in a fairly distant third because I'm a big fan of his deep ball skill set but he's fairly limited to that role.

But remember, these are my favourite receivers, not a ranking.

Could do it like they did with Dobson/Boyce and go 2nd/4th on WR, maybe. Seems like a year where WR will be a good value compared to other positions... #1 CB may be hard to fill in the draft.

Received a tweet earlier today (4/10/15) stating that the Pats are concentrating very heavily on the 2015 receiving class. It came from CBS Sports, so don't know if they have good sources, we all know BB is very secretive, so I think they are just speculating.

It was Jason LaCanfora. The reportwas just that teams are thinking that the Patriots will go WR early because of BBs pro day visits: Auburn (Coates), Georgia (Conley), Maryland (Diggs) and Central Florida (Perriman).

Problem with this analysis is that it ignores the fact that this ignores the fact that BB went to Clemson, that BB worked out DTs at Georgia and Auburn and Caserio worked out one at Stanford also, Conley and Diggs aren't really early round picks so that leaves Coates and Perriman which isn't really a pattern.

However, there is some evidence that BB might go WR early:

1. There's some pretty good value to be had in picks 32-64 if you are looking for a deep threat WR.

2. Patriots missed out on a quality class of WRs last year. This class is nearly as good and maybe BB doesn't want to miss out two years running.

3. Another pro day that BB went to was Louisville's. Hard to understand what that was about, but in this context, Devante Parker might provide an explanation.

4. BB certainly showed that he's interested in upgrading the offensive skill positions in FA with the looks at Bush and Stevie Johnson. Maybe The deep threat posed by Sammie Coates or Devin Smith is part of that strategy.

I do believe that the Patriots are looking for a big downfield threat, and this should be a good draft to pick one up. But I don't have a good bead on who and when. Rankings are fluctuating wildly.

Lance Zierlin's latest has this 1st-round crop:
#4 Kevin White
#7 Amari Cooper
#14 Breshad Perriman (!)
#18 Devante Parker
#19 Jaelen Strong

That leaves the highest-rated WR available at #32 as...Dorial Green-Beckham.
