Reiss expects Pats to be fined-deflategate? No farking way

Just the fact that a league employee was stealing some of those balls to sell later taints the whole thing.

And of course the NFL is being led by former Jets employees. No wonder the whole thing has become a mess.

I still say Goodell doesn't make it to the draft.

At the least I'd like to see the drafted players stick their hands out for a handshake instead of being force fed a phony hug from Goodell. He is clearly no friend of theirs. If the player hugs anyone it should be someone from the team that drafted him.

It seems to me that many have forgotten that the refs are responsible for the inflation/deflation of the football to set the correct air pressure. Why many are assuming that this is the Patriots responsibility puzzles me. Both the rulebook and the procedures the Patriots followed make it clear where the responsibility lies. So if the footballs were underinflated (not deflated which assumes air was let out), then it is the responsibility of the referees - unless there is evidence that the Patriots deflated footballs (which seems to be pretty clear (at least from the rumors that have been reported for 2 months) that no such evidence exists - only (mostly wild) speculation.

Unlike many here, I don't expect the NFL to let themselves open for more abuse by taking action against a franchise that (apparently) did nothing wrong. Also, unlike many here, I'm not interested in judging the NFL's reaction to the report and their subsquent actions until the report is made and the NFL actually does something about it. :)

Your post suits your name perfectly.

Let's wait and see what happens before we decide our next move.

Incorrect. Rule 2 Section 1 says the balls need to be 12.5-13.5 PSI. It has no "only at the moment the balls are checked-in" language. Further, the NFL's statement on 23 Jan makes it clear that the NFL views Rule 2 Section 1 as applying throughout the game.

I understand that statement to be that it is implied that teams can not adjust the balls once they are approved. And no **** the rule applies thru out the game. The rule does not allow for the physics, the specifications are unreasonable for games played outdoors. And the procedure for insuring the balls remain in spec is not encompassing enough.

Just wish we could all move on from this nonsense.....

There isn't a smoking gun because they are desperately grasping at straws by taking this long. Rogers comment to King already suggests as much and he seems to be distancing himself from the issue altogether in preparation for the inevitable embarrassment to follow. I just wish to revel in the backfire these turds all deserve.

Until the NFL punishes the Pats (if they do) it's actually a good time right now to be a Pats fan.

We own the NFL!

Goodell can easily throw his staff under the bus if he wants, it would make him look more competent than he is.

Is it possible that Woody and Kensil are behind this and are trying to put the last nail in the coffin of Goodell?

Yes, but that was their view on January 23rd. As I mentioned yesterday, my hope is that the Wells report is comprehensive enough to include scientific experiments that show that view to be unreasonable.

Fair enough! As I've said before, I hope you're right! Believe me, I'd be happy to be wrong -- I want NE to be completely exonerated (i.e. "Weather completely accounts for the measured underpressureness, NE didn't do anything, no fine. Oh, and Kensil's fired for running an unapproved operation.")

I just have less than zero faith in Goodell or the league.

Same here. Sorry, didn't mean to beat a dead horse - I actually thought we were in a different thread so thought perhaps I was adding something new to the thread, but can see now it's not. Can't keep track of these deflategate threads.

Are all Pat fans this kind of clueless homers?

The endless conspiracy theories. The absurd claims that weather makes air disappear. You all sound like teen age love struck girls, making excuses for a boyfriends bad behavior.

Have any of you ever heard of Occam's Razor?

Fact: the Patriots are the only NFL team who have been docked two first round draft picks for breaking the rules.

Fact: the Patriots have been fined more than any other NFL team for breaking the rules.

Fact: the Patriots have prompted more rule changes, to close grey area loopholes than any other NFL team. Just this year there were two. The NFL needs a spotter now because the Pats didn't pull Edelman after everyone in the world knew he was concussed? Oh right he "passed" the concussion test. Yet they will dump him in a heartbeat next year when he is no longer useful. It's the Patriot way.

Fact: the Patriots are the only NFL team to have a player commit multiple murders while on the active roster.

And what are your usual retorts? Haters gonna hate. Sour grapes. Kensil is out to get the Pats. Goodell hates the Pats. The Ravens are whiners, it's Irsay's pill addiction. The Jets are rats. Everyone does it. BB is just smarter than everyone else.

Okay ban me now for trolling.

Holy ****. Reis's makes a guess of the situation with no evidence at all and everybody loses their fricken minds. As I said, I'll wait till schefter says something about that before I start to worry.

So, a ruling that's unfair and cowardly would accomplish that?

I agree, a ruling like that would be batsh*t crazy absurd. But it may be the best resolution available.

If Goodell totally exonerates the Pats and there is no penalty at all. Several teams and most of the national press, even the mainstream press, will go totally bonkers. Remember the feeding frenzy before the Super Bowl. Goodell would never shake the implication that he's Kraft's toady. And the Pats would never escape the allegation of wrongdoing, but they have "Goodell in their pocket". Lose-lose.

If Goodell comes down hard on the Pats without ironclad evidence of wrongdoing. Kraft goes ballistic, Goodell loses his support, the league loses his help and support, and the ruling gets overturned on appeal for lack of evidence. But our reputation gets tainted forever for no good reason. Lose-lose.

Or maybe Goodell gives both sides half a loaf. A small fine for an equipment violation. While making clear the cause for the underpressure footballs was environmental. Then tightens up procedures around ball pressure and security (different protocol for inflation and ball security pre-game, routine halftime checks, adjustments by the refs as necessary). Goodell then announces that Mike Kensil has been reassigned to the new "Center for Equipment Compliance and Environmental Research" to be created especially for him in Novossibirsk, Siberia. :D

Those out for Patriots blood no longer have a leg to stand on. And the Pats appeal the fine and easily win. Partial win all around.

To paraphrase Bill Cosby: Comissioners, like parents, aren't interested in justice. They just want peace and quiet!

This is almost too dumb to respond to. Changes in pressure do not require any air disappearing. Go back to high school.

Yes, and using it we can conclude that you are an ignoramus.

0 for 3

This one is true. They are in everyone's head.

Just this year there were two. The NFL needs a spotter now because the Pats didn't pull Edelman after everyone in the world knew he was concussed? Oh right he "passed" the concussion test. Yet they will dump him in a heartbeat next year when he is no longer useful. It's the Patriot way.

I see that the Jets just cut Percy Harvin. Welcome to the Dark Side. I can feel the hate welling up inside you.

Fact: the Patriots are the only NFL team to have a player commit multiple murders while on the active roster.

Ok...and?

This is too dumb to rise to the level of trolling.

LOL. Wrong on just about everything in your post, but thanks for playing.

Speaking of bill cosby and justice... :D

The Wells report needs to be made public but it won't be. I know what was released regarding Incognito/Martin was just the tip of the iceberg. Many more in Miami were guilty and Incognito took all the heat and while he deserved it so did others and they scated. NFL is so corrupt LOL.

In this case it should be put online and then the fans can see what really was found.

IDK, before all the information about the rogue league employee stealing footballs, Ryan Grigson saying he informed the league about the Pats the week leading up to the game, and the fact that they didn't record the PSI at any point came out, I would have expected the Wells Report to bury the information. Now they have to address the league's incompetence and shady dealings or they will have an issue. Of course, they could just report what we already know and nothing else even if there is more. But the leaks has actually forced the Wells report to speak of how the league screwed. Otherwise, everyone in the media except for the Patriots haters will question the report and whether they are covering up the league's involvement.

I don't think the media will go nuts if the Pats don't get punished. Look at most of the media's tone about the Jet's frivolous Tampering charge. There appears to have been a short term shift in the media perception of the "cheatriots!" and the NFL is being perceived as totally incompetent. When Kensil is fired the media won't balk at the Pats not being punished.

If the Patriots did nothing wrong then they shouldn't be fined.

I agree that a small fine would be the cleanest thing for the nfl to do, and for that reason it might happen, but it's still a crock of sh!t

The Patriots didn't create this mess. The NFL created it with their out-for-blood ex jets employees, and their bogus leaks, and their angry jealous butt-hurt competitors who can't beat them on the field

Without evidence of tampering I have a feeling the NFL will not penalize the Patriots for the footballs being low. It's a can of worms the league is probably not interested in opening.

Think about it... QB's want their footballs to be prepped any way they want and the structure in place lets it happen. Brady and Manning pushed for this. If the NFL is now saying they can't really do that... then I expect the Pats and other teams to test footballs where the opponent is a Manning, Rodgers, Brady or any other big time QB... this is a can of worms... it will undoubtedly hurt the QB's ability to put up big numbers and points and since when does today's NFL do anything to hinder offense? OFFENSE~! is what today's NFL is all about and I see no reason why they want to change that at this time.

Like I said, intentionally deflating the football is a completely different story and that would be indefensible. That is not what we're talking about here.

Instead I think there's a good chance they do get fined for that football bathroom trip. Something about not following game operations.
