I find it insulting that you compare the situation of Michael Sam to the situation of Jackie Robinson. They couldn't be more different. Jackie Robinson had already been playing ball in the Negro leagues and people knew of him. He was approached to join MLB. Robinson didn't go out and demand the media attention. He did interviews that were requested of him.. Nothing more.. Robinson didn't deals done with programs ahead of time without the consent of the team that he'd be joining..

The Dodgers created the media storm by bringing Jackie Robinson to the team.. Sam was bringing the media storm with him to the Rams.. Pretty distinct difference.
People knew of Sam in the next highest Football league, the "SEC". I didn't realize that declaring for the draft was demanding media attention, Jackie robinson would certainly never do anything like star in a movie about his own life during his baseball career or anything like that. My original point was simply saying that I hoped Sam did well in the veterans combine and you and the rest of the bigots became angry because you think its wrong that Sam is an opnely gay man and you seem to feel that players should never talk about their personal lives. Somone like Blake Bortles should be shunned because of his GF sexy picks on instagarm and Russel Wilson kissing his wife after he was drafted was also horrendous. Good thing we have you standing firm against these terrible moral outrages here on PatsFans.

What did Sam's sexuality have to do with declaring for the draft? NOTHING. That's what you fail to comprehend. And if you think that his declaring himself to be gay wasn't a demand for media attention then you are so gullible and naive that you shouldn't bother posting anymore..

And, no, you didn't say that you hoped Sam did well in the Veteran's combine. Your first message was about how Sam was somehow blackballed by the NFL. Then you proceeded to go on numerous rants about it.. So please, stop with your BS lies..

The big issue I see is that you are so quick to throw the BIGOT label around you really don't know what you are talking about..

I am no bigot. I have no issue with Sam being gay. It's not MY business who he sleeps with and it sure as hell isn't yours. I take issue with him and others in the GLBT community thinking they deserve special treatment for "Declaring their sexuality". As if that somehow makes them better than anyone else. Oh.. And I take issue with people who think the color of their skin makes them special or their religion makes them special as well.

You don't seem to understand that player's private lives are just that. PRIVATE. I understand that. How you go from that to claiming "I don't believe players should talk about their personal lives" is beyond comprehension. The rest of your rant is just pure idiocy..

Do yourself and everyone else a favor and take your BS elsewhere.. You throwing around the term bigot when you clearly don't know what your talking about is insulting to everyone on this board.

Seriously man I have the 5th comment on this thread and I said "Sam, I hope he gets a job in the NFL or goes to canada", you weren't even around when this whole argument, started you are just such a jerk that you felt the need to insert yourself into an argument that nobody was even having anymore.
I'm afraid i don't see what your issue is with Sam precisely, he has told people he is gay and has maintained a relationship with a man but he hasn't been demanding special treatment, he has just said time and again that he wants to be treated as another football player. You can believe that the only reason he came out was for media attention but I fail to see any proof or evidence, if you do have some please let us know. Stop trolling and just log off

Since the rest of your screed follows from this, let me just be clear: we all know Tom Brady and Vince Wilfork's sexual preferences because they display those preferences in public.

The difference between Brady posting a picture on social media of himself kissing his wife and Michael Sam posting a picture of himself kissing his husband on social media is that the latter is inherently political because of attitudes like yours. It would have come out because, unless he chose to hide it, his teammates would have known or someone would have seen it on Instagram. Moreover, Sam had previously come out to his Mizzou teammates; he knew NFL teams and the media would catch wind, and in fact this was the stated reason he came out publicly.

Attitudes like mine? You mean the attitude that an athlete's sexual preference isn't my business nor should it be anyone elses? Yeah, because my acknowledging their right to a private life is such a bad thing. You're attitude is the issue.. Not mine..

Had he not, that 24/7 sports media then would have found out, taken it, and run with it: Extra, extra, read all about it! Rams draft pick Michael Sam is gay! If you don't think the media would have made a big deal out of this, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

The media would have made a big deal of it because of the attitude of people like yourself.. Who feel that they are OWED the right to know the private lives of these players. That you are somehow entitled to that knowledge. If people like yourself didn't care one way or the other, then the media wouldn't make a big deal of it..

Heterosexual people face no such scrutiny. Tom Brady being straight is not and never will be a story. He can post pictures of himself and his wife, hold his wife's hand in public, and tell his teammates about his plans with his wife because he is held to a different standard than Michael Sam, and you are displaying exactly what that standard is.

No, I'm not displaying what that standard is. Again, you seem to be under some misguided impression that I care what Tom Brady's private life is. I don't. I don't care if he's holding hands with a guy in public. I don't care if he's holding hands with a woman in public. Again, not my business. Why is it that you think it's yours?

Sexuality is by its nature social and can therefore really never be private unless you make an effort to hide it, which is called being in the closet and is extraordinarily deleterious to mental and emotional health and well-being. If you think sexuality can should be totally private, I hope you live it: never talk about any spouses, in-laws, and when a colleague talks about their personal life you turn away and put your hands over your ears.

edit: I don't think anything more productive is going to come out of this, so I'm removing myself from the thread.

Wow. You are totally deluded and the 2nd to last line shows how completely moronic you are. I think that the sexuality of people who I don't know is none of my business. Clearly that concept is beyond your ability to comprehend.

im sure you think players showing up with their wives to events or gronk talking about all the girls hes been with is equally horrible. Again we get it you are an ******* and a bigot, congrats, I merely pointed out that its wrong to make someone live a lie and you are saying that Sam has no right to be an openly homosexual man.

That's just it, moron. YOU are the ******* and ****ing bigot. Not me. I'm not asking Sam to live a lie. That is the concept that you are too stupid to comprehend. It's not my business if Sam is gay or not. He can walk around holding a guy's hand. It doesn't bother me. It's his right to privacy. I don't walk around making faces as a guy holding another guy's hand. Or two girls doing the same. Again, not my business. And you know something. It's not YOURS either. Do yourself a favor and worry about yourself and your own issues instead of being concerned with Michael Sam and whether he's gay. You'll be much happier and you won't come off as a total and complete buffoon in conversations like this when you make false and libelous accusations.

You then proceeded to claim that Sam was blackballed by the NFL.. But, yeah, ignore that post.
You don't think that Sam did things to get special treatment? You're delusional. Going out of his way to get TV deals for programs that would involve whatever team selected him. Having a special interview to announce that he was gay despite the fact that every NFL team already knew. It's not like he was some big time prospect. He was a mid-to-late prospect by most accounts due to his size and lack of athleticism in comparison to other players.

Could you show me all the other mid-to-late round prospects who get national tv interviews to announce they are entering the draft?

Sam had awful measurable's last year. In the last year he has got even worse, but has become a celebrity who is hinting in every interview that he isn't getting a chance because he is gay. Then you have websites like Outsports hinting he should be taking the NFL to court because he is being discriminated against. Even the Jets wouldn't want that kind of circus.

Let the guy go to Canada and prove he can play. It didn't harm Cameron Wake!

I doubt he wants to to that however, as if he fails on the field, his fan club won't be able to push the 'blackballed' theory.

If a team thought he could get them to SF this year, he would have a team.
