Reiss expects Pats to be fined-deflategate? No farking way

I exchanged a couple of tweets with Reiss. His reason for figuring they'll get a fine is basically the equipment violation theory:

If this idiocy were to be implemented then Kraft should have fun as Buffalo & Green Bay are fined into bankruptcy next November-December for "equipment violations" especially after Herr Oberfuhrer Goodell edicts that physics does not provide an excuse.

I once believed that there would be a kind of justice to come out of this, but I no longer believe it. I have come to believe that, unfortunately, the ownership group is made up more of the Irsay'Snyder type than the Kraft/Mara type. I really truly believe that the majority of the league owners have a bead case of Patriot fatigue. Our continued success is ultimately a huge slap in the face to their own management acumen, or lack thereof. EVERY year the Pats trot out another 11-12 game winning season, and another playoff run make their own efforts look small and unimportant.

And NONE of those 32 guys come with anything less that massive egos. The fact is that their panties are in an uproar, and any knock on the Pats and their legacy just makes it just that much easier on them when they have to deal with their own fan bases. So when a fan asks his owner, "why can we be like the Pats?" The owner can smugly say. "Well its just harder to be so consistent when you demand we follow the rules and keep our integrity"

I also think this jealousy from the other owners is marginalizing Kraft as a critical owner. Bob is more like a former speaker of the house, whose party just lost their majority. The cameras and reporters still find him, but he has no real power any more.

Roger Goodell has set out an anti-Patriots agenda that has been carefully being followed for many years now. There is no other reason for what happened in "defflategate". It came from the top, and with Goodell knowing he had support from a majority of the owner. How else could all those well timed leaks keep coming from the league. How else can these "sources" keep appearing and disappearing at will. How else can you explain, after ALL the ineptitude, why Roger Goodell still has a job?

There will likely be no justice n Deflategate. There won't be a revisiting of "cameraplacementgate". There won't be any picks coming our way for the tampering by the Jets. In fact I wouldn't be shocked it the league reprimanded Kraft and took away our 3rd round comp pick.

I've fought the good fight like SO many others here for many years.l But I've come to believe that it was to no good end. I'm beginning to think that our only choice is to own the bad rep and learn to embrace it. We can become the outlaws of the league, the Raiders of the 2010's. Because the alternative is to continue to shovel sh!t against the tide, because its the LEAGUE who is sanctioning the smear campaign

BTW- if it is true an the league wants to save some face and force the Pats to pay a fine, I'd love if Bod took it real personally, and told those jealous hypocrites to stuff it. And he'd be fine to shut down the team and sit out a year, rather than pay a fine, regardless of how small for something they didn't do. Christ Bob, its only money and you can't take it with you
That's what I was thinking. It would be interesting to see what the league would do if the Pats just said, 'You know what? Enough. **** you. We're not paying on red cent.'
I suppose they could withhold the tv revenue, but think of the ruckus they could cause.

Let me direct this to those who scoffed at my predictions in the deflategate thread and placed their faith in the wrath and power of Kraft to make Goodell do the right thing. While the final verdict hasn't be made public yet all the directions are pointing at a fine for the deflated balls and minimal punishment for the Jets for tampering. IMO, Kraft already knows and has accepted the judgement of Goodell as shown by his support of the POS. I still think that Kraft as a shrewd businessman values his membership in the fraternity of owners more than the support of his fan base and only exhibited support of BB and Brady to placate them not out of any desire to take on Goodell. Like it or not it is immaterial to the reputation of the Pats whether or not the League apologizes. The damage was done in 2007 when Kraft failed to support BB and allowed the great trashing of the Pats without response. I believe there is nothing Goodell can say or do that will really shake Kraft's loyalty to him as long as the money comes in.

The Wells report needs to be made public but it won't be. I know what was released regarding Incognito/Martin was just the tip of the iceberg. Many more in Miami were guilty and Incognito took all the heat and while he deserved it so did others and they scated. NFL is so corrupt LOL.

In this case it should be put online and then the fans can see what really was found.

I started watching football with my father when I was 5 years old. I love the game, but this is the first time in my life that I don't look forward to the new season. I am sick of the NFL. I'm sick of their rules, and propaganda. If the Pats are punished in any way for this crap, without evidence, I don't think that I can continue to watch this sport. It is becoming to damn stressful. We Patriot Fans WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO WATCH OUR TEAM PLAY IN PEACE, UNTIL they become an under five hundred team. This league hates the success this franchise has. They absolutely hate it. They change rules to hurt them, they make up crap to tarnish their reputation. What's next? I just can't stand it anymore. It's to STRESSFUL.
The Pats have done what no team was supposed to do after 1993/94 (beginning of the Cap/FA era).

Everyone was supposed to dwell in a zone of generalized mediocrity with occasional intervals of success by well run franchises (like the Steelers, Ravens and Giants).

But no one was supposed to go to nine AFCCG's and six SB's in 14 years and win four of them. Nope. Wasn't supposed to happen.

Without the Pats' success, coaches could have told GM's who could have told owners who could have told their fans and the media that no one could hope to do more than get to a rare conference championship game and, even more rarely, to an SB.

So, what did they all do? Resorted to the oldest excuse in the books to explain away the Pats success: "They cheated." And, of course, players, coaches, owners, mediots and the NFL itself were all too willing to join the chorus.

We just have to live with this. My guess is that a decade or more from now, when people look back on this era, they will see all of this for what it really was: jealousy and resentment, pure and simple. But, for now, there's very little we can do about it.

When I first moved to NYC, where I now live, I used to marvel at how Yankee's fans seemed to love it that people outside New York hated their team. They were better and they knew it. Their history was better and they knew it. And, they simply reveled in the resentment and wore it as a badge of honor.

Now, I understand. I've embraced the hate and, when they say something predictable about the Patriots (the "cheatriots" or whatever), I now just ask my friends who are fans of the Jets or other mediocre or crappy teams: "Is that they best you can do? Bring it on. You're just jealous and you know it."

Okay Okay, let's get this crap done with. At this point, if I'm Kraft, that last thing I want to do is drag this out. I'll take a freakin fine for failure to properly maintain equipment...if it comes to that, how much would we be penalized for? And would it affect our draft spots?

Ah, the "Thank You Sir! May I have another?" approach to punishment.

Not after that speech Kraft made in Arizona.

Premature ejaculation of defeat.
See your doctor!

Absent a contract saying stuff like "everyone in job grade XYZ/1 will be treated identically" or protected classes being involved, your employer can legally have double-standards up the wazoo. It would be quite legal for an employer to forbid me to eat lunch at my desk or to work from home but let my co-worker do it. Or to pay me less for the same work. Or make me work longer hours. Or have sh*ttier work. Or have me sign a non-compete but not my co-worker. Etc.

Well then do you assume the charter says that all teams will be treated the same? Or do you assume the charter says that some teams can be held to a higher standard than others. If they don't pay the patriots their share of the tv revenue, your saying kraft can't sue? Nobody in the US gives up the right to sue but the military.

If the league does not hold up the charter that all teams will be treated the same and they only punish one team, you don't think a judge will hear that?

Believe what you want. After it's over see your shrink!

As much as I tend to lean towards your way of thinking vs. the thought that we'll be completely exonerated, @PatsWickedPissah was simply trying to keep things light and joke around.

You may want to consider easing up a bit :)

Can't believe this BS the NEP goes through. Are all the other 31 owners anti-Kraft? Are they pissed at him for pushing for the resolution of the possible strike?
They're pissed at him because he and Bill continue to make them look like incompetent buffoons. NONE of them have been able to put together an operation as consistently competitive over the past 15 years and it stings. Reiss alluded to that in his chat today.

Easy to do when you're raking in billions.

When you have billions of dollars pride becomes more important than whatever pittance the monetary cost would be. A fine would be a shot at Kraft's pride and reputation.

Self-awareness is a valuable quality in life. Sadly it eludes all too many ...

Not after that speech Kraft made in Arizona.

You mean the speech he's already started walking back by saying what a fine job Goodell is doing and what a hard job he has?

I disagree, but let's renew this argument when one of us is a billionaire.
