oh look it's anot..zzzzzzzzzz. tired of it...zzzzzzzzzz...Super bo....zzzzzzzzz

I digress, but why are topics about the Patriots' head coach off topic on a Patriots discussion board?

Sorry but I am with the NFL on this issue.I don't want more reviews and longer games. So whatever excuse they give on this issue I will accept.Even with replays how many calls are still debatable. For instance everyone says Dez was stretching for the goal line ,and had possession but personally I thought he was just going down.

Havent read any posts beyond this so someone may have already addressed this.... but putting extra cameras down at the goal line would do absolutely nothing to the number of or length of challenged calls on the field...

It would just make the challenge process more accurate down on the goal line, and you could even argue that it would speed the review up because they would have a better angle straight down the goal line for a more definitive view, rather than having to replay the same few seconds of footage over and over a hundred times trying to determine where the ball is because the camera shot is at some weird angle

Don't know how anyone with a pulse could be against this

I started the thread and I guess I considered BB's rant non-player (FA signing, contract, performance) or game related but falling into the category of "stuff happening that is indirectly related to the Pats". Of course it's BB but not relevant to team per-se.

Every year that goes by...the more and more i grow to hate what the NFL is and stands for. If i wasn't so die hard pats...i would have given up a long time ago on this joke of a league

So the NFL made north of $9 billion last year alone. Then you have the owners and their net worth (est. as of 11/1/14):

1. Paul Allen – Seattle Seahawks $15.8B
2. Stan Kroenke – St. Louis Rams $5.3B
3. Stephen Ross – Miami Dolphins $4.8B
4. Terrance Pegula – Buffalo Bills $4.6B
5. Glazer Family – Tampa Bay Buccaneers $4.5B
6. Shahid Khan – Jacksonville Jaguars $3.8B
7. Robert “Woody” Johnson – New York Jets $3.5B
8. Jerry Jones – Dallas Cowboys $3B
9. Robert Kraft – New England Patriots $2.9B
10. Joan Tisch – New York Giants $2.9B
11. Stephen Bisciotti – Baltimore Ravens $2.1B
12. Bob McNair – Houston Texans $2B
13. Arthur Blank – Atlanta Falcons $1.7B
14. Jim Irsay – Indianapolis Colts $1.6B
15. Jimmy Haslam – Cleveland Browns $1.5B
16. Ford Family – Detroit Lions $1.4B
17. Tom Benson – New Orleans Saints $1.3B
18. Zygi Wilf – Minnesota Vikings $1.3B
19. Virginia Halas McCaskey – Chicago Bears $1.2B
20. Jeffrey Lurie – Philadelphia Eagles $1.2B
21. Daniel Snyder – Washington Redskins $1.2B
22. Jed York – San Francisco 49ers $1.2B

Left off the list are the Chiefs because it is unknown how much Clark Hunt controls of the family's $5 B, Bill Bidwell whose net worth is unknown but estimated at just shy of $1 B, and the Packers who are owned by the fans.

So if my math is correct... between the league and owners they are worth some where around $83.5 BILLION DOLLARS in 2014!!! (This doesn't take into account the Hunt family and assuming $900 M for Bidwell and a conservative $9 B for the NFL).

It has been reported that Goodell wants the league to earn $25 B annually, this is something that I am sure the owners are salivating at and extra expenses (like the cameras) would cut into this greed. Corporate greed will kill the game.

Adam Schefter is going to end up getting sued one of these days...how many false reports do you get before you get fired. What a @#$% joke, he should work for the Boston media if he is going to have this much of a blatant agenda
Schefter is one of the best. Do you never make a mistake at work?He didnt buy into that deflate gate garbage. I mean how do we even know PFT is right?

Is your point that one needs to be rich to own an NFL franchise?

Do i think NFL owners are "greedy"?
Well in the sense that they want more $ than they now have, yes.
Class envy aside I do not think for a moment that a 10exp4 expense per owner makes any impact on their worth of 10exp9, a factor of 100,000. They each spend 100x more a piece on Goodell's salary alone. Greed is not motivating them here. Lack of imagination and ruffled feathers that BB of all people has the effrontery to advocate "more cameras" of all things at the game. BB is in their heads.

So no problem with the NFL killing the game with practically more commercial breaks than football in the sake of money, but adding a few extra camera's is going overboard?

DET is losing money. MIA is a pathetic investment.

Let us presume that 4% is an acceptable amount of operating revenue for a business. On that measure, lots of teams are NOT doing well at all. Probably half are NOT good business investments at the present time.
================
That being said, Belichick is correct. It is absurd for owners to argue that the cost of cameras is a key concern. BTW, I think the issue is that the NFL wants the refs to take responsibility for their calls. If there were cameras, the refs would rule for the home team, and reverse only when obvious. The owners prefer the current situation (wrongly I think).

I guess the open question is why you watch commercials.

And by what measure is the NFL "killing the game"?

attendance? TV audience? profit? popularity of the NFL compared to the other sports?

How much posters like to whine?

I agree that it is not the money, it's something else.

League could address the possibility of blatant homer calls in their evaluation of ref's performance. Look at the # and of course the circumstances of reversals and retire those refs who consistently exceed the baseline by a statistically significant amount.

Agreed

I'm sure that the calls of every ref is reviewed in the off-season. I know that they are all rated. I don't know the process by which they are "retired".

No team in the NFL is losing money, and no team in the NFL is a bad investment.

I agree that it is not the money, it's something else.

I can understand the argument against instant replay- which removes the element of humanity in favor of accuracy. That battle is over and replay won.

The issue here is that an incremental improvement has been suggested that provides more coverage, standardization and greater accuracy to scoring calls. There is no question that EZ cameras improve the integrity of the game.

The problem is that while we don't know the total acquisition, implementation or operational costs involved, for a company that generates $9B annually w/ and operating margin of approx 15.4% (2013 numbers). Double-check my math but according to my calculations, the NFL generated a profit of ~$1.39B.

That is why BB freaked. They have the money.

I wonder if cameras in the end zone made the networks nervous....?

So you think that more viewers and money is what determines whether the game is getting better or worse?
