With the success of the ineligible eligible receiver being made illegal, and with the passing of the "Julian Edelman" rule for woozy players, I've come up with another proposed rule change that I think the League may want to consider.

Test drive it with you guys first before I send it to Goddell as a late add to the agenda in Phoenix, before the league owners adjourn:

The "Malcom Butler" Rule
In the final 2 minutes of the game, in Goal-to-go situations, the defending team is no longer permitted to intercept a pass attempt. If for some reason the defense does intercept a pass under these circumstances, the play will be enforced as an Unsportsmanlike Penalty, half the distance to the goal, the offense retains possession of the ball without a loss of down. And then, hopefully, they will run the ball instead.

What do you think? Should have a very popular reception among the league coaches and owners.

Retro-active to last season?

Deception isn't classy nor in the spirit of the rules. Can't have surprise picks like that.

In the spirit of player safety and fair play I think both teams should turn in play cards and then the officials should determine the outcome of the down.

So it's sort of like "Football the Game" instead of "Magic the Gathering?"

With Goodell and the clown-car posse rules committee, I can see this.

Addendum: Actually, if this rule is passed, I can see Sheldon Cooper and Will Wheaton becoming big fans of the game pretty much overnight.

With the popularity of the big bang theory it's really the only sensible solution. Leonard and Sheldon announcing with Penny on the sideline...

And you know that Sheldon, with his photographic memory will have the entire rule book memorized in 24 hours. He'd be the perfect resource in the announcing booth.

From the "Cornhusker Vortex" episode:

Sheldon Cooper: I grew up in Texas. Football is ubiquitous in Texas. Pro football, college football, high school football, Pee-Wee football; in fact, every form of football except the original: European football, which most Texans believe to be a commie plot.

I think we may be on to something. :)

Please don't give Goodell any ideas!
NFL has become "Idiocracy"; Belichick must feel like Luke Wilson's character in that movie.

If a team makes the playoffs in consecutive years they cannot use the same QB that guided them in the playoffs the previous year.
