Just noticed, though not surprised, that Mankins fourth rounder is almost another 3rd round pick. They pick 96, 97 and 101.

I've seen BB work this before and it fits in beautifully with his philosophy. Say he likes a guard or two around the bottom of the third. Not really unusual to pick up somebody at that position, there.

Of course, he'd love to take a flyer on some small school raw cornerback, of the boom and bust variety, or an injured one. Think Asante Samuel. He could gamble on the boom/bust corner and still guarantee his choice of guard with the next pick, or even get another guard at 101, something he likes [competition].

Or, he could gamble in the second, like a TE with a bad back, or a lesser known LB without a lot of LB experience from a lousy school that always lost, then catch all the dropping picks, safe and gambles alike with the three 3/4 round picks.

Of course, he can still trade all but the comp pick, especially if he finds a partner who wants someone in that range.

Love the" have your cake and eat it to" aspect since i know he'll have some gambles that might be too risky, but are like free picks in this situation.

Absolutely agree, the compensatory picks these players will receive must be at least a significant part of the "let go of them a year too early not a year too late" policy.

A year too late and the salary these players will receive on the FA market will be negligible and with it much worse compensatory picks in return. Letting them go a year too early means the player can still demand a high salary from their new teaming resulting in much higher compensatory picks for the Patriots.

Could be a sweet spot in the draft.....use your own pick to bundle up and get a special player you covet.

Might be enough to get them up around pick # 50 or so in the second round if they can find a trade partner.

get marpet with one of those picks if he's still on the board.

I wonder if there's any shot of Mankins coming back if he gets cut this year or next.

or those picks can be used as leverage to make sure the team gets exactly the guys they want to get......now that they have pick 97, they can use 96 to move up in round 2, or use 96 and 101 to move up in round 3 and use #2 to move up in rd 1......but then again, if the pats swap 2nd rounders with the jets, the options multiply

however the picks flow, all I care about is getting the best possible quality in the trenches.......where the picks are made has not been much of an effect.....success is pretty random

There's really not much in sense in trading for picks next year either. We'll get the 97 or 98th pick for losing Revis. We get something like 3 other six rounders.

I sense a trade up this year. BB traded up for Chandler Jones and Hightower in 2012. If he likes a cb, I think Carolina at 25 is a good trade up partner. They should be picking much higher. Might as well trade down a little more and get a pick. I think Philly and Houston in Round 2 are good trade up partners. Because of the relationships with Chip Kelly and O'Brien.

I want to bring BB to Vegas with me.

IIRC day 1 is round 1 and day 2 is rounds 2 and 3 so that pick at 101 is at the beginning of day three. Say a team really wants a player after having slept on it...that 101 is the third pick of day 2 and might be more coveted than pick 96 in some respects.....

Wouldn't the spot be better spent on a draft pick at this point.
I'd prefer to go young but if the Pats can't find somone in the draft and Logan is willing to come back for a short money deal...why not?

It would make sense to pass on Mankins and focus on getting younger on the OL. Stork was a tremendous start and was picked with the 105th selection in the 2014 draft.. That cluster of three picks around 100 is a terrific place to get two late third-/early fourth-round offensive linemen to see who sticks.

BB has drafted two starting right tackles in exactly that part of the draft, and a third one with a pick at the end of the 4th.

Lol. Logan's always been willing to take a little less, unless the owner lies to him.

Not a coincidence he got traded with no notice to the worst team in the league IMO.

No kidding, right? Better chance of Mangini coming back and cleaning toilets.

Same with Seymour IMO. Great players, but both made management kiss their ass to agree to a contract. when it came time to go, it wasn't golden parachute with a chance to play with romeo (coincidentally) or Pioli for leadership. It was "just business" getting the best deal for the team, like the player demanded back when.

I want them to have five picks in a row in the second round, and use every second on the clock on every one, just to watch the TV announcers have to deal with talking about the Pats for 15 minutes straight.
