Ineligible receiver rule changed

To be fair to Harbaugh and the Ravens, their issue was more about how the officials handled things than about the moves themselves.

You are too kind, Deus.

Harbaugh took issue with the zebras after he had a cold one and realized how much of a whiny punk he made himself out to be by calling the Pats deceptive.

I need to step away and stop thinking the world is trying to screw the Pats over..

Before the owners meetings, competition committee co-chair Jeff Fisher said several teams had brought up the Patriots' formation as an issue that needed resolution.

"Unless we had some guidelines in place, this thing may get out of hand," Fisher said.

Fisher...the NFL's version of The Oracle and hasn't had a winning season since 2008.

Some of you old school fans want to help me here please?

Why did they ever make an, "ineligible receiver", rule in the first place? Why are some members of the offense excluded from receiving the ball even though all members of the defense are elligible to intercept the ball?

Time was the biggest issue, and that's 100% on the officials, not the Patriots.

The PLAYERS had time to react, but the RAVENS clearly did not prepare them to ever face that situation. One of the greatest aspects of BB coaching is he has his players prepared for EVERY possible situation, no matter how bizarre or unlikely and he has the players with intelligence (and or experience) to notice it and remember what to do. If this happened against the Patriots, the players wouldn't have been so confused and if they were, they would have called a timeout. And of course if they got beaten bad on the plays, BB wouldn't have complained, he would have studied film, figured the best counter, and had his players ready for the next time they see something similar. THAT is the difference between BB and the REST of the league.

It's just sad that the competition committee is influenced by these other idiot coaches/owners. I've always thought that was a huge conflict of interest. The committee should be completely independent, with the committee members voted in by the owners, but completely unaffiliated to any organization. The owners should have ZERO influence on rule changes, only the ability to propose changes.

Rule 5.1.A
Bill Belichick can not use deception and must display each play on the jumbotron prior to running it.
Not only that, Bill has to be up there too, walking everyone through the play the way he does on tv sometimes.

I do like that most neutral sources are pointing out the utter BS of this. I wish the Ravens took Domestic Violence (pre video tape) as seriously as they took this

Watch, the next rule to be changed is that you will no longer get compensatory picks for declining options which is what Pats did for Revis, Wilfork etc...

Someone said it on twitter better, but because of the Patriots' playoff run:

-Ball Handling will be changed.
-Eligible receiver rules will be changed.
-Injury timeouts will be changed.

That's unbelievable actually. The ol' they hate us cuz' they anus...

The play still might work with the normally eligible player that is declared ineligible lining up as a tight end who is covered up by a WR.

So he can't be split wide... not sure we can't still call the play. I would just to mess with Harbaugh. His head would explode when the referees announce it.

And you can bet no one will prepare for it because they changed the rules and figure that covers it.

I think receivers should not be allowed to throw and quaterbacks should not be allowed to catch.

I have all of 3 years coaching youth football experience. I was at the Pats/Ravens game, and the official announced "number 34 is ineligible," so the idiot next to me says "of course 34 is eligible he's a running back." To this I responded, "no, he announced him ineligible that means they shouldn't cover him, and he can't go downfield." Apparently, my vast;) experience has made me more qualified to coach the Ravens than their Super Bowl winning coach, and their SB winning coach is more like the drunk knuckle head that was next to me. This formation was not that hard to figure out, and should not have worked more than once. That was the true embarrassment.

Hate to disagree about the Pats always being prepared, but from Wikipedia: "On September 21, 2008, the Miami Dolphins used the wildcat offense against the New England Patriots on six plays, which produced 5 touchdowns (four rushing and one passing—from Ronnie Brown himself) in a 38–13 upset victory."

But you are right that Belichick didn't complain. He studied film and in the next Miami game completely stopped the wildcat.

All the Ravens fans I've seen are emphasizing the "seven second" aspect of things. They're conveniently ignoring the seven months teams would have had to prepare before seeing this again. This should have gone the way of the wildcat, a single audible that check to when the offense lines up like that. When everybody is prepared, then nobody will bother doing it anymore.

I don't think the Ravens feel they have the intelligence necessary to ever figure out how to defend the play.

I bet deep down Belichick enjoyed seeing the Wildcat implemented. That is one time he would probably tip his hat to the opposing coach as it gave him something else to scheme against. He loves **** like that.

I was at that game, of course. To this day I'm mystified why the Pats couldn't make in-game adjustments capable of at least slowing Miami down.

Inquiring minds want to know how does one get appointed to the committee ? Its surely isn't by ones coaching ability.
