Krafts full commentary on Revis not taken out of context:

“We thought we made a very competitive offer. I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots, we wanted to keep him. We wanted him in our system, and we have certain disciplines. We had hoped it worked out. It didn’t. … As a fan, in March and April, I hate to lose him. But our real focus is what goes on in the fall and winter. … I think we made a very competitive offer. And I must say this, because I see how our situation [has been] with Vince [Wilfork]; that’s the team that drafted him. I don’t know, I think he feels a great commitment there, so we understand going back. We’re sorry he didn’t stay with us. … He’s a great player. The fan in me wishes he were still [with] us.”

“Let me just say this: Bill wanted him. But, I mean … you probably don’t have to work on a budget. When you get a budget, there are certain things you can’t do. We have a budget. In the end, we’ll judge it by what the results are, what happens in wins and losses at the end of the year. Also, it takes two sides. I think each side, in the end, did what was right for them.”

The NY Post term Woody's action a temper tantrum...

A humorous interview by NY Daily News in an article about "bland Bill"... is this entrapment??

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...downplays-losing-revis-jets-article-1.2161452

DN: What went into the decision with Revis not being back?

BB: It’s NFL free agency.

DN: I understand that, but Robert Kraft said . . .

BB: Players leave teams and go to teams in free agency every year. I think that’s not a big story.

DN: How much will it change the way you play defense not having Revis to just lock down on the best receiver on the other team?

BB: I don’t know.

DN: Can you talk about the contribution Revis did make to winning the championship?

BB: I’ve talked about him at length. I don’t talk about players that aren’t on our team.

On the bright side, now that charges have been brought up against the Patriots, the league will actually look into this whole tampering thing they keep hearing about. It will get their undivided attention and I expect ESPN to fill the next 150 programming hours of non-stop tampering talks, and maybe Jerry Rice will open his stupid hole again to claim that destroys the legacy, and teams can't tamper, but violating the salary cap is okay because everyone does that...wait...that's not allowed...for years? Nah, everyone did it.

On the Jets side, there really should be two separate cases of tampering, and the Patriots only filed one. The first was months ago on TV, and that's when we actually filed the charge. This is a no brainer, it was done, I don't understand the point of an investigation. There's nothing to investigate. This should have been done in one day.

But it's pretty obvious that the Jets were also in contact with a player or his agent while he was still under contract. That is much more serious and much more malicious and that should actually get investigated.

I don't know how much the tampering really affected things or not. I understand the argument that the Jets were going to open up the wallet and trump whatever offer we put out there. But it misses the point that Revis could only know that by communicating with them. If he only knew the Pats offer, and he's not sure he can get a similar deal out there, then it changes the nature of his decision-making process. But if he knows without a doubt that there's a better offer there, of course he dismisses it handily and tries to negotiate a better offer.

It's about choice. If you have one option, take it or leave it, you will think differently about it than if you know there's another offer out there. It's no different than anyone on this board would feel if they had only one job offer vs. 2 offering similar money. If it's your only job offer, you have to think long and hard about the security aspect.

Now that the Jets have filed this frivolous tampering charge, the FO should go ahead and file that second charge about tampering with a player under contract during the legal tampering period.

Jets have filed tampering charges against Patriots based on Robert Kraft's Monday comments about Darrelle Revis, per league source.

Kraft spoke in the PAST tense. Nothing about how he currently wants a player under contract with another team. What a joke of an organization.

What a complete buffoon Woody is! Even the NY Papers are laughing at him.

The Jets just INCREASED the punishment against them by doing this.

Incredible! :D :D :D

.

The Jets just made things worse for themselves.

Hopefully this just makes their punishment that more harsh.

It will.

This is just too funny.

It's like Baghdad Bob resurfaces in Washington and holds a press conference backing Saddam.

Try to dig the hole a bit deeper Woody - - your family estate crouches in shame.

From the doc @Deus Irae socialized with the forum.

Public/Private Statements. Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this Anti Tampering Policy. (Example of a prohibited comment: “He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.”) All clubs should be aware that improper disclosure of confidential trade discussions with another club may be a violation of this section on prohibited public statements.

Additional language that we have all read before...

"Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club's player or that player's agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this Anti-Tampering Policy".

The problem IMO is that the article is too vague and subject to interpretation.

As much as I think this is complete BS,I think the NYJ argument is that even though Kraft's comments are "unqualified", they also fall into the classification of what is to be considered tampering. What Kraft can then say is that the context of his comments are specific to the events that took place AFTER the Pats formally chose to release him from his contract thus making him a FA.

What a mess.

I'm starting to think Kraft may have said that in order to goad the Jets into filing false tampering charges. What Kraft said clearly is not tampering, and the Jet's frivolous tampering charges will hurt their own case. This blunder by the Jets might just nudge the Pats into pick 6 territory.

The NFL has to punish the jets for this. It's the same thing as filling false police charges, which is a crime. The NFL has enough on their plate right now with everything else going on, the last thing the league needs is to have to deal with a loser team throwing a temper tantrum after getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar

I called it that the Jets would file tampering charges. I knew it would happen.
You did, or someone did, I remember that thread. Can you link to the post?

This illustrates why lawyers tell their clients not to talk to the media (or anyone else) about a case. Any comment no matter how innocuous can give rise to a claim, and a claim, even it is not meritorious, can muddy the waters. Here, obviously what Kraft said was not tampering, as it was in the past tense. But it's time consuming to prove that fact. The Jets attorneys will insist that there was an implied offer beyond the literal language. All the Jets need to do is hassle and annoy Kraft enough so that he decides not to pursue the original claim of tampering.

The people here arguing that the Jets claim is not meritorious miss the legal strategy: the Jets don't need to prove their claim is valid, they just need to make it as annoying and time consuming as possible to defend.

stupid move, you make more work for nfl offices who have enough to deal with all in retaliation to charges filed on you. They better hope this just goes away and doesn't backfire in a big way.

Johnson talked about acquiring a player that was under contract with another team.

Kraft was explaining why his team couldn't come to a contract agreement with a player that was under contract with them. IF U WANT A PLAYER YOU WANT HIM TO BE BACK.

One is regretting not having reached an agreement with the player and the other is sending a message by the media to let him know that they will hire you at any cost.

Seriously, is there punishment for so obviously throwing a temper tantrum and filing frivolous charges? Because there damn well should be. Stuff like this makes the NFL look like even more of a joke than it already is. I cannot believe the Jets actually did this. Embarrassing on so many levels.

I'm worried about Kraft saying "He’s a great player. The fan in me wishes he were still [with] us.”

I love Kraft, but he shouldn't have said anything to the media. This is why Belichick is such a master - he gives them nothing. Now this gives goodell an excuse not to punish the jets. It is less likely now that the NFL will make a ruling in the next several weeks.
