Florio: Jets File Tampering charges AGAINST Pats

You are seriously dumb.

So besides a personal attack, I am dumb for thinking Goodell will treat us fairly for the first time ever?

What I said might not happen, but this will get legs and be a big story tomorrow.

As pointed out by Adam Jones, this could back fire in the Jets' face. If the league doesn't agree with them that the Pats' tampered because Kraft was talking about past when he was part of the team and when they were trying to get him to stay or when he was a free agent, they weaken their defense if they claim what Woody did wasn't tampering by filing this claim. Now they have to admit Woody tampered and hope the punishment isn't severe.

I had a feeling this would happen. I saw the Kraft interview, and though I thought it was all past tense, he kept getting Revis questions and kept talking about it. Watch us lose a draft choice now and Johnson's tampering will get swept under the rug. Though Kraft was asked about that as well. The only quote that worries me is, "as a fan, I wish we kept him", still past tense, but somewhat close to Johnson's "if we knew we could have gotten him for 12 mill", that could be construed as past tense as well, though I think he said something to the effect of "we would love to have him back" or something, which was classic tampering.

He signed for 5 years, including 39 million guaranteed.

Do you know what tampering is?

It would be funny if the league said enough is enough and reverted everything back to the way it was with Revis going back to the Patriots.

So after committing tampering to the very definition, the Jets have now offered up the textbook case of filing an accusation not in good faith.

This is another punishable offense. Kraft's comments were clearly past tense and obviously not a violation of the tampering rules. The Jets know this and are tying up league resources for a hissy fit.

More draft picks please.

Curran's pre-emptive response to Mehta:

Everything in Kraft's Monday statements made it clear that, while parting with Revis was difficult, that ship has sailed. "We thought we made a very competitive offer," Kraft said. "I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots, we wanted to keep him. We wanted him in our system, and we have certain disciplines. We had hoped it worked out. It didn't. We just don't think about short-term decisions. For example, next year we have three very good young defensive players coming up and we have to factor that."

Also, given Revis' five-year agreement with the Jets, which includes the next two seasons of fully guaranteed money (at $33M), Revis' situation now bears no resemblance to the contractual climate Revis faced when Woody Johnson made his comments. Unlike Johnson - who lamented not ponying up the money Revis was paid in New England in 2014 - Kraft made clear that that kind of spending wasn't in the Patriots' plans. "We just don't look at this year; we look out at the next few years. We've done OK doing that," he said. "As a fan, in March and April, I hate to lose [Revis]. But our real focus is what goes on in the fall and winter. I put my faith and respect with Bill [Belichick]. We have a lot of discussions and he's done pretty good the last 15 years. The fan in me argues all the time with him but he has a pretty good record."

I fully agree with Curran's first paragraph, but don't the second paragraph. The first paragraph points out in context Kraft only talks about the process that the Pats did to keep Revis that failed. The second paragraph, while true, I don't know if it matters whether Revis is under contract for the next five years or the next five minutes by the letter of the tampering policy. But the first point Curran makes, makes the second point irrelevant. I think the second point would only matter in the severity of the punishment if Kraft did indeed tamper.

I think its totally plausible that Robert Kraft is laying the groundwork to travel back in time and re-negotiate with Revis, once Pats R&D gets that hot tub time machine working.

No punishment the league could impose would be strong enough for such blatant past-tense tampering and threatening to disrupt the flow of space-time.

you people actually think Woody Johnson and the Jets thought this up??????????????????

Has anyone here been watching what the league has done the past few days???

Cameras on the goal lines??? Harumph harumph harumph NO WAY!!! Too expensive...now let's talk about 9 point touchdowns and deliberately bashing QB's heads in with under 2 minutes to go so players like a Brady HAVE TO LEAVE THE GAME!

jeezus krist...if today hasn't been the most crystal clear evidence of scummbaggery aimed directly at the Patriots by this Jet centric NFL offices group I fail to see what possibly could be clearer. This means warthog toesucker can send in some ST mutt under two minutes and bash Brady's skull in so he can't play in crunch time...with ZERO RAMIFICATIONS for the degenerate toe sucker and the rest of these mongoloids who cannot figure out how to win.

I called it that the Jets would file tampering charges. I knew it would happen.

Rob, you actually did post that. I won't research it but I know I saw it. I"ll back you up on that.

I remember thinking, "That would just be TOTALLY PATHETIC, even for the Jets".

I should've remembered we were talking about the Jets.

So after committing tampering to the very definition, the Jets have now offered up the textbook case of filing an accusation not in good faith.
Yup, it's the NFL equivalent of making a crank call to 911.

Time to elevate the Jets suck 2015 Edition I think.....

The best thing is nothing ignites this board more than an obvious injustice.

For the other boards they need a contrived injustice just to ignite them.

There's your difference.

"We wanted to keep him [at the price we offered]..." an implication of the offer they gave him; offer which was given legally.

Dude..... Seriously, this is a reading issue:

From the league’s anti-tampering policy: “Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this Anti-Tampering Policy. (Example of a prohibited comment: ‘He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.’)”

Said Johnson in a press conference: “Darrelle is a great player. I’d love for Darrelle to come back.

What Johnson said is an absolutely textbook example of tampering. What Kraft said is an absolutely textbook example of noting why a guy wasn't signed.

If you can't figure out the difference,

you might be a Jets fan.

How can it be tampering when he is already signed to the Jets? It's not like we can pry him away now! When Woody said what he said a month or so ago Revis's availability was still up for grabs!

Ok, let's predict the different talk shows responses to the Jets' filing tampering charges:

Fred Toucher will rant this is why his Jets are a loser organization. He will go into Same Old Jets mode like most Jets fans do on a yearly basis.

Felger will blast the Patriots for tampering and suggest that the Pats surrender their first round pick.

Mazz will lick Felger's butthole.

Zo will joke about the backward's organization the Jets are.
