The Most Egregious Case of Tampering Ever

That also involved a swap of 5s on top of it, and that was based on a defensive coordinator making vague statements about wanting to sign FAs from his old team. Not an owner naming a specific player.

That's a good point.. I didn't think of that.

I think a forced swap of 4ths is the most likely scenario.

Last pick taken away (from Detroit) for tampering was in '11 and it was for a 7th round, IIRC.
Most likely. Hoping for 3rd. 1st or 2d seem right off the table considering who runs things.

My prediction. The evidence of multiple tampering incidents is too overwhelming for Carrottop to ignore and he has the Patriots and Jets swap first rounders and he takes away their fourth rounder.
I admire your optimism.:)

Woody Johnson says Jets haven't heard anything on tampering scenario from the NFL.

Marc sessler

Apparently when Woody was asked about it today he replied that he wasn't worried.

I'm not sure if he was trying to be ****y or if he's just saying that its out of his hands

Hopefully Rog takes it as ****iness

Tampering is supposed to be based on the potential affect that losing the player will have.

Revis is a elite top 2 talent, anything less then a first round draft pick is disgusting when the patriots had to give up a 1st to get a coach which at the time didn't have the track record that Revis has now(it was worth it, though. I'd have given up an entire draft knowing what I know about the patriots future.)

Yep. And that's also why saying you wanted to sign a player you were actively bidding for is irrelevant to tampering when they just signed a 5 year deal with the team you were bidding against.

It probably is. Isn't this the only case of tempering ever when a player of this magnitude went to the tampering team? Should be no less than a swap of 4ths and I hope more.

Now THIS is interesting behavior:

".....Johnson wanted Revis back so badly he risked a tampering charge when asked about him last December, and he backed up that talk byshelling out $39 million in guarantees the moment Revis hit free agency two weeks ago.

But no "Welcome back!" text since the agreement was reached? No "Great to have you around again!" note via snail mail? No smiley face emoji? Really?......"

OK, so now the owner who did all this diarhea of the mouth about Revis in a public press conference does not even have ANY communication with him since giving him the largest contract he's ever handed out?

Sounds like Woody is heeding legal advice that knows he's on thin ice.

Whistling past the draft picks..............

Punishments are not based on speculation. Woody went on record courting a player under contract. Accident or not is irrelevant. Any opinion on what Revis would or would not have done is speculation. Fact is - Woody said he wanted Revis and than got him.....on the first few hours of FA.

yup.....pretty black and white when it comes to tampering......especially when put up against past violations...putting in this context, you could argue the teams should switch 1st round picks given the lions transgressions involved jarrad page:

Following a review and a hearing, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell determined Friday that the Detroit Lions violated the league's anti-tampering policy by publicly commenting about their desire to acquire players then under contract to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Lions also were cited for impermissible contact with a player (or his agent) then under contract to the Chiefs. According to the Detroit Free Press, the player in question was safety Jarrad Page, whom the Chiefs traded to the New England Patriots last year.

Goodell decided on the following disciplinary action to resolve the matter:

» The Lions will forfeit their seventh-round selection (acquired from the Denver Broncos) in the 2011 NFL Draft.

» The Chiefs and Lions will switch fifth-round picks in the 2011 draft. As a result, Kansas City now owns the ninth selection in that round and Detroit the 23rd.

» Either team may appeal the decision by advising Goodell in writing of its desire to do so by Feb. 28.

The violations occurred in 2010 and center around Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who served as the Chiefs' coordinator from 1995 to 2000. He told the Free Press that he wouldn't mind signing players the Chiefs might release.

"(Kansas City) keeps wanting to dump their players. I would like to be there to catch a lot of them because I know a couple of those guys," Cunningham told the newspaper in February 2010.

The Chiefs filed tampering charges against the Lions to initiate the proceeding.

There is precedent of swapping first round picks for tampering. The Jets should be expected to do no less than that.

I'm not familiar with the precedent. When and how did it happen?

Sorry, I'm trying to multi-task at work too. I actually made a typo and corrected my post. Based on the caliber of the player, if they're found guilty, the Jets should be swap firsts with us.

What do you think the odds are that that's what happens?

if the roles were reversed, the nfl would take away all of our draft picks.
brunell would also start crying again.

nfl are a bunch of hypocrites

based on punishment of prior outcomes, it should be more than that.....others were punished when there was no impact on the end result.......the pats lost a 1st rounder on an unknown outcome......here, the outcome is pretty well known regardless of Johnson's denials

Florio just tweeted the Jets filed tampering charges over Kraft's Revis comments on Monday. F*cking Clown Shoes, that whole organization.
